Chapter 154 Charlotte, Let's Start Over
The drama was over.
Charlotte quickly left the café.
She'd broken up with Nicholas but found herself in deeper trouble.
Frederick caught up and grabbed her wrist. "Charlotte."
She bit her lip. "You're nuts!"
That was so embarrassing!
He'd gone too far.
She couldn't marry Nicholas, but they could still be friends. Now it was all awkward.
Frederick was mad too.
He pinned her against the car.
His fingers brushed her cheek, his voice low and dangerous. "Do you feel sorry for him? I've seen you two getting close, and you don't feel sorry for me?"
He was genuinely jealous.
He pinched her chin, uncomfortable. "Have you kissed him?"
Charlotte, furious, slapped him.
She waited for him to hit back, knowing his temper.
Frederick was angry but wouldn't hit a woman.
He touched his face and laughed.
"Charlotte, you only dare to lose your temper with me!"
They'd been apart for a while, and now, close again, he couldn't help but tease her, his voice hoarse with desire.
"Charlotte, let's start over!"
He kissed the delicate skin behind her ear.
Her fair skin turned pink at the slightest touch, looking beautiful.
Charlotte's body stiffened.
Though Frederick had mentioned it before, she never wanted to think about it. Now, she had to take it seriously.
She gently pushed him away. "Frederick, it's impossible for us!"
Frederick stepped back, his eyes appreciating her vulnerable state.
"Why is it impossible? Weren't we happy together? Do you really like Nicholas?"
Charlotte straightened up.
She looked into his eyes. "If it wasn't Nicholas, it would be someone else! You didn't want me back then, and now you say 'let's start over' and I should be grateful? Not only you, but I would also look down on myself!"
She took a deep breath. "We're done! Don't come looking for me again, and don't do those weird things, or..."
Frederick chuckled.
He lit a cigarette. "So what? Accuse me of harassment?"
Charlotte was furious again.
She opened the car door, but he grabbed her arm.
Frederick blew smoke at her, half-smiling. "Ms. Russell, I helped you, but you didn't even say thank you. You're really heartless!"
Charlotte knew his tactics too well.
She shook off his hand, got in the car, and drove away.
Frederick wasn't angry. He stood there smoking, looking mature and handsome.
Nicholas came out of the café and ran into him.
Frederick squinted, sneered, and got in his car to leave.
Charlotte called Maria to say she and Nicholas broke up.
Maria was silent for a moment. "If it's not meant to be, don't force it."
Charlotte replied, "Yeah."
Maria hesitated.
She'd already heard from Mrs. Lawson about Frederick, but since Charlotte didn't mention it, Maria didn't ask.
Charlotte hung up.
Feeling empty, she decided to tidy up her apartment and lit some incense.
The night was quiet.
Thinking about her troubled love life, she poured herself a glass of red wine.
She meant to sip it slowly.
But she was so upset she drank more and more. When she was tipsy, Nicholas called.
Charlotte hesitated, then answered.
Nicholas's voice was rough. "Charlotte."
He seemed to have thought long and hard before softly asking, "Is it really over for us?"
Charlotte stayed silent.
She knew Nicholas was struggling.
They had no future, but she wanted to be kind.
Nicholas let out a bitter laugh, his voice low and lost. "Fine. I might be getting engaged soon to a girl my mom introduces."
The speed of it surprised Charlotte.
But she quickly guessed this girl had always been there. Nicholas had resisted before, but after today, he accepted it.
She graciously congratulated him.
Nicholas couldn't help but think maybe Charlotte never liked him.
He had just filled the void after her breakup with Frederick. He never entered her heart.
Charlotte hung up.
She felt worse, not because she was sad. Nicholas had a fiancée now. There was nothing wrong with her, so why was she still single?
Since she was home, getting drunk wouldn't hurt.
Late at night, when Charlotte was drunk, the apartment door clicked open.
Frederick walked in with a new key.
The small apartment was warm, filled with the scent of incense.
Charlotte was asleep on the sofa, wearing cow-pattern pajamas. Her head was tilted back, eyes closed, lips slightly parted.
Frederick's body tensed.
It had been too long since he had sex, and just seeing her was unbearable.
He wasn't one to restrain his needs. He wanted her and to start over. With this thought, possessing her felt right.
Frederick took off his coat, revealing his business attire.
He unbuttoned two buttons of his shirt, his Adam's apple moving enticingly.
He leaned over Charlotte, one hand on the sofa, the other cupping her face.
Her lips were slightly parted, smelling of red wine.
Frederick felt he couldn't hold back any longer.
He kissed her deeply and shallowly for a long time. It wasn't enough, and he held her tightly.
She was so soft.
After drinking, she was so obedient, so cute.
Frederick was deeply aroused, kissing her while softly calling her name. "Charlotte."
Charlotte was drunk but not completely out of it.
She slowly opened her eyes and saw Frederick's face. His chin was tense, eyes half-closed, face slightly red, exuding desire.
Charlotte gently touched his face.
Frederick's body trembled, his voice hoarse. "Charlotte."
In the past, Charlotte would have been aroused, but she couldn't forget that night in the hospital, the cold machine causing pain, and he wasn't there.
Charlotte, weak and drunk, slurred her words. "How did you get in? Frederick, we're exes. I just broke up with Nicholas. Even if I were to sleep with someone, it wouldn't be you!"
She kicked him, refusing to agree.
Her kick almost hit his lower body.
Frederick grabbed her leg, looking at her deeply, his words indecent.
"What's so fun about someone like Nicholas? How could he make you as happy as I do? Besides, wasn't I your first?"
