Chapter 452 Andrew Was Upset!
Andrew glanced at Molly. She was in so much pain, but she didn't shed a tear.
Later, he thought sadly, she wouldn't speak. Could it be that she couldn't even cry anymore?
He reached out and gently touched her head.
Molly just stared at him.
Nathan left the woman to his wife and walked in, seeing the two of them looking at each other.
He felt for Molly. He knew that even though they had adopted her, her heart was always with Andrew.
Nathan took off his glasses and quietly wiped his eyes.
Some people, indeed, can never be replaced!
After composing himself, he gently patted Molly and cleared his throat, "Now that you've seen Andrew, why aren't you happy?"
Molly didn't speak. She used sign language to gesture.
Nathan and his wife truly cared for her and had learnt sign language.
He looked at Andrew and said, "She says she's very happy."
Andrew's throat tightened. He nodded slightly and discussed Molly's injuries with the doctor.
The doctor had looked at the X-rays. He said, "The situation is a bit complicated, but it's manageable!"
He asked Andrew to talk further, and Andrew looked at Molly, who was blinking at him. Andrew touched her head again.
He went with the doctor to the surgical office. The doctor, knowing Andrew's relationship with the Hawkins Family, was very considerate and poured Andrew some water.
Andrew's gaze was deep.
The doctor sat down, pondered for a moment, and then smiled lightly, "The leg injury is not hard to treat! The psychological trauma is the difficult part! I heard that Molly's muteness is due to psychological reasons, why wasn't it treated in time?"
Andrew's face was indifferent. His thoughts wandered back to those unpleasant memories: Luke's death, Celeste's stubbornness, and Chloe's anguish.
He said softly, "Molly has a tumultuous past, endured much, and I haven't fulfilled my responsibilities."
The doctor walked to the desk to write a treatment plan, thought for a moment, and then said softly, "Now is the best time for treatment. If she gets older, even if she wants to speak, she'll have to relearn, and that will be a long and painful process."
Andrew nodded, "I'll talk to her."
The doctor gave Andrew a business card, "This is a close friend of my mentor, an authority in this field, who is often abroad. But if you need, call him and mention my name."
Andrew accepted it and thanked him.
He left the office but didn't immediately go to the ward.
The corridor was already quiet. He walked to the end of it, where there was a window. The hot summer breeze brushed against his face uncomfortably, yet Andrew welcomed the clarity it brought.
In the afternoon, Molly was to have a minor surgery.
Andrew called Chloe, telling her not to wait for him.
He felt sorry, his voice low, "Chloe, we had planned to spend the weekend together."
Chloe was much more composed than before.
She was with Natalie, helping Adeline pick vegetables.
She said softly, "I'm just keeping Adeline company! It's fine that you're not coming back."
Andrew chuckled a bit and asked about Gavin, "What about that silly boy? He seemed off when I left. Chloe, keep an eye on him; I'll talk to him later."
Chloe nodded. She glanced over, and Gavin was sitting under a tree reading a book.
They chatted a bit more and then hung up.
Adeline, worried Chloe might feel uncomfortable, stopped picking vegetables and took Chloe and Natalie to see her treasures.
Chloe had seen good things, but what woman could resist these?
Natalie was too young to understand the value of these jewels. She hung a long string of gems around her neck.
Adeline laughed and teased, "You look like a little bandit!"
Chloe knew Adeline was being kind. She said, "You should keep these! They're too valuable."
Adeline didn't take them back. She brought out more things, making Chloe laugh and cry at the same time.
But soon, her laughter quickly faded. Within fifteen minutes of stepping out again, Gavin was nowhere to be found.
Adeline thought, 'Wasn't he just reading?'
Chloe was also very anxious.
Adeline and Chloe, along with the servants, searched the villa inside and out but couldn't find Gavin. Finally, Adeline said, "Call Andrew immediately! Nothing is more important than Gavin right now! Tell him to come back!"
Chloe's trembling fingers dialed Andrew's phone as she exclaimed, "Andrew, Gavin is missing!"
At the hospital, Andrew was stunned.
Gavin was missing?
He walked out of the ward with his phone, even though he was panicking inside, he first reassured Chloe, "Don't panic. Have you checked the villa's surveillance?"
Chloe, with a crying tone, said, "We checked! He went out alone."
The surveillance footage showed little Gavin walking out of the gate. He disappeared around the corner.
Andrew's heart sank. He suppressed his emotions, "Have Adeline look after Natalie. I'm going to the police station now. If you can get there quickly, go first and we'll check the surrounding surveillance! I'll call Sawyer."
Chloe did as he said.
So they headed over, calling Frederick in the meantime, using all available connections.
As Andrew was leaving, he ran into Nathan.
Hearing that Gavin was missing, Nathan quickly followed.
When Andrew got into the car, he called Chloe again, "Last time he ran away, he went to the apartment over there. Check there first, we'll be in touch."
Chloe agreed.
Andrew's car slowly left the hospital.
At the hospital entrance, a taxi pulled up, and Gavin got out. He carried a small backpack and ran to the inpatient department.
He searched floor by floor. Finally, he found Molly in a VIP ward.
Molly was quite pretty. She had inherited Celeste's good features.
At this moment, she was in a cast, leaning against the headboard, drawing.
The drawings were of wedding dresses, with a beautiful woman as the model.
Molly was coloring with crayons, stroke by stroke.
Nathan and his wife assumed she was drawing Celeste, as Molly's most significant memory was of her. But Molly never stated that the drawings were of Chloe.
Molly knew that Andrew didn't get married because of her and Chloe never wore a wedding dress.
So she designed beautiful wedding dresses, dreaming of becoming a designer when she grew up, hoping to one day give them to Chloe.
That way, maybe Chloe wouldn't blame Andrew anymore.
Gavin stood at the door watching her, naturally seeing those wedding dress drawings as well.
He thought they were of Celeste.
Gavin walked up and did the first rude thing in his life, tearing Molly's sketchbook to shreds.
Pages upon pages of drawings from the past two years were scattered over the white bed, in her hair and on her body.
She stared blankly at the little boy in front of her, his features resembling Andrew's.
She almost immediately knew who he was, her face turned pale as she bent down to pick up the torn pieces.
Gavin spoke in anger, "Why do you always show up?"
Molly's face looked terrible.
At this moment, Amanda came in with some fruit, and as soon as she entered, she saw Gavin.
Amanda calmed Gavin down and called Nathan.
She lowered her voice, "Why is Gavin here? These two kids don't get along!"
However, it was good news for Nathan.
He hung up the phone and immediately told Andrew, "Gavin is at the hospital! How did he get there?"
Finally, Andrew's heart settled. Andrew guessed he had eavesdropped on his phone call. He rushed back and called Chloe to inform her. He hurried back to the hospital.
In the ward, Amanda was cleaning up the scattered paper, and Molly sat dazed on the bed. Gavin, on the other hand, was visibly angry.
Andrew walked in, slowly approaching Gavin.
Gavin looked up at him.
Andrew's voice was hoarse, "How could you do something so ungentlemanly?"
Gavin pursed his lips tightly, "Do you want me to apologize to her?"
Andrew's heart ached intensely at that moment. Gavin had done something wrong, but wasn't it all because of him?
For a moment, he was at a loss.
He wanted to discipline Gavin, but he felt guilty and had no grounds to do so.
Nathan knew Andrew too well. He came over and said softly, "Let's talk at home! Take Gavin home first. He probably hasn't eaten yet. He's still young, so don't be too harsh!"
Andrew, feeling a surge of anger, took Gavin away!
Then Nathan came to comfort Molly.
Molly, having been treated so roughly, sat silently.
Nathan felt a pang of sympathy. He said gently, "I'll get you a new one! Even better than the last!"
Molly didn't speak. She clenched her fists tightly, hiding a piece of paper in her palm.
It was a drawing of a red wedding dress.
She had heard people say that on Andrew's wedding day, Chloe looked beautiful in red. But she ruined it all.
Andrew drove Gavin home. In the car, none of them spoke. Gavin sulking in the back seat.
At a red light, he tried to reason with his son, "You shouldn't have acted out against a girl! She was pushed down the stairs and broke her leg. She can't even speak! Is this what I taught you?"
Gavin remained silent. Andrew had no way to deal with him, and he didn't dare to speak harshly.
It wasn't until the car pulled into the villa and stopped that Gavin spoke softly, "You never taught me!"
After saying that, Gavin opened the car door and jumped out.
Andrew looked at the open car door, feeling very angry.
He got out, slammed the door, and intended to go inside to reason with him.
But as soon as he entered the hall, he was stunned.
Gavin was kneeling straight at the stairs; his small, frail bodywas rigid, exuding a stubborn air.
Natalie called out to Gavin.
Gavin just patted her and said softly, "Go play somewhere else."
Andrew was both angry and amused. Even though he was angry, he still cared for Natalie.
Just as he was about to speak, Gavin spoke first, "I did something wrong! I'm willing to be punished! But I don't regret it!"
Andrew's heart quivered with rage at these words.
A few years ago, with his temper, he would have pinned him down and given him a good beating.
But now, he had no right to do that!
At this moment, Adeline came running over, trembling. Seeing her beloved Gavin kneeling, she was heartbroken and went to pull him up, but Gavin refused to get up.
He vaguely remembered. When he tore the sketchbook, Molly had tears in her eyes. Making her cry, kneeling meant nothing.
Adeline couldn't pull him up, so she turned to scold Andrew, "What terrible thing did he do that you have to torment him like this! Chloe and the others have suffered for years because of your past indiscretions. How can you care for someone else's child but not your own? Or do you think Gavin and Natalie aren't worthy of being your kids? If that's the case, I'll take them away and not bother you! But Andrew, you're nothing now."
Andrew smiled bitterly, "Adeline, that's not what I mean!"
"Then what do you mean? A family finally together! It's because Chloe's parents are understanding that they let her come back with you. You haven't fulfilled your responsibilities as a husband and father at all. Just because Chloe is sensible doesn't mean you can ignore her and not value her!"
After saying all this, Adeline sneered. "Andrew, I think you'd better stay single!"
Andrew's bitter smile grew even deeper.
After scolding him, Adeline felt relieved. She thought Gavin must feel better too. She pulled up a small stool and sat in front of Gavin, fanning him, and said, "You did something wrong, but you can't blame Gavin for being extreme!"
Then she wiped Gavin's sweat, "I'll be with you!"
Andrew was speechless with Adeline. She clearly didn't agree with Gavin's actions, but she scolded him first, and Gavin softened!
Andrew held Natalie, "You've been listening for a while, our baby must be tired! I'll make some milk for you!"
Adeline retorted, "Drinking milk on a hot day may cause internal heat in her."
Andrew smiled apologetically, "You're right!"
He thought for a moment and said, "Alright, I'll cook separately for the kids! I'll make potato and apple pie for Natalie, and seafood pasta for Gavin. Kneeling for so long, he needs to replenish. Gavin, how long are you going to kneel? At least give me a timeframe so I can time the cooking and serve it hot."
Gavin refused to speak.
Adeline added, "Look how angry he is!"
Andrew took Natalie to the kitchen, but after a few steps, Chloe's car pulled up.
Andrew's gaze deepened.
