Chapter 488 Nice Moves, Gavin!

Clayton grinned and plopped down, wrapping an arm around Molly.

Once seated, he let go but leaned in close to whisper something to her.

Molly tried her best not to glance at Gavin, even though it was tough. He was right there, just on the other side of Clayton. She could even catch a whiff of his familiar cologne.

Clayton noticed she was a bit out of it and looked down at her.

Tonight, Molly had some makeup on. Her face was clear, and her thick lashes rested on her eyelids, making her look super cute.

Clayton reached out, grabbed her hand, and whispered, "If you wanna bail, we can go now."

Molly shook her head.

She and Gavin had history, but that was done. In Syeattel, they were bound to bump into each other. Did she have to dodge him every time?

Clayton didn't push it. He turned his head but kept holding her hand since it was cold. Then he took off his jacket and draped it over her shoulders.

Molly gave him a faint smile, just in time to catch Gavin's gaze. He was quietly watching her.

Two seconds later, Gavin looked away.

Sarah leaned in to chat with him, her tone gentle, "I think the next auction item is nice."

Gavin looked and saw it was the conch pendant designed by Molly. It was super delicate and really beautiful.

Sarah smiled lightly, "It's Molly's work! Gavin, you're practically her brother; you should support her."

Gavin didn't like that kind of talk. He patted his pants and said, "Her stuff always sells! Didn't you order a wedding dress from her just six months ago? Forgot already?"

Sarah clenched her fingers and stopped embarrassing herself.

Right then, the host on stage announced the pendant, starting at $1.2 million.

The conch and the diamonds set in it were all over ten carats, looking pretty dazzling.

Someone raised a paddle and bid $1.3 million. Gavin called out $1.5 million. The other person looked at Gavin and then bid $1.8 million, probably 'cause his wife really liked it. Normally, Gavin would let it go. But this piece, he wasn't backing down, so he went straight to $3 million.

The host on stage was pumped. Designer items usually had a premium, but Molly's work was at most worth $2 million, and now it had hit $3 million. And it wasn't over yet! Clayton lazily raised his paddle and said, "5 million dollars."

The crowd went wild.

Gavin's face tightened, "10 million dollars."

Clayton stayed cool, "20 million dollars!"

Gavin wasn't giving up. Just as he was about to raise his paddle, Sarah was already losing her cool. She wanted Gavin to buy it for her, but she didn't want Molly to steal the spotlight. Just as she was about to pull Gavin, a female voice rang out, "20 million dollars and 1 cent."

Everyone turned to see who was so cheeky. But when they saw Lola, they went quiet. A rising star in the legal world, her rep was catching up to Frederick.

Lola probably rushed in, still in her business attire. She stood up and slowly walked to the front row, her high heels clicking on the floor.

Gavin looked up at her, "Lola."

Lola smiled sweetly, "Gavin, I really like this piece. You wouldn't compete with me, would you?"

Gavin knew her too well. He said irritably, "Of course not!"

Lola kept that sweet smile and asked Sarah, "Sarah, you cool with this?"

Sarah didn't dare to act up in front of Lola. Everyone in Syeattlel knew Lola was not someone to mess with. She didn't want to get on her bad side!

Lola got what she wanted. She went up on stage, took the necklace, and walked down to Molly. She leaned over, put it on Molly, and then smiled at the stunned crowd, "It looks best on Molly!"

After that, she winked at Gavin. Gavin just glared at her.

Lola stood up straight and extended her hand, "Calvin, checkbook."

Calvin quickly came over and handed her the checkbook.

Lola wrote a check, tossed it, and then walked out. Gavin chased after her.

In the empty hallway, he grabbed her arm, "Lola!"

Lola leaned against the wall, her long legs stretched out.

She opened her palm, "Check!"

Gavin raised an eyebrow, playing dumb.

Lola snorted, "20 million dollars, stop pretending! Do you think Molly would accept it if you bought it?"

Gavin tore a check and handed it to her, letting her fill it out herself.

Gavin adjusted his collar and asked, "How did you know?"

Lola took the check and lightly brushed it against his face, "I have a client who lives across from Molly. One day, I went over, and as soon as the elevator door opened, I saw you pinning her against the door, kissing her! Nice moves, Gavin."

Gavin's face turned a bit red.

Lola hugged his head and kissed him, "Gavin, go for it! If you don't bring Molly home, I'll look down on you!"

Gavin gave a bitter smile.

Lola sighed and nudged him, "Just kidding! Molly's had a rough time. If you can't make her happy, don't mess with her. And don't embarrass yourself like today. Clayton didn't really want to buy it; he just wanted to make you look like a fool."

Gavin knew, but at that moment, he didn't care.

Lola blew him a kiss, "I'm out!"

Gavin watched her leave and suddenly asked, "Lola! Do you hate Johnny?"

Lola paused. After a few seconds, she turned and smiled lightly, "If you feel sorry for me, find me a good-looking, strong guy."

Gavin didn't say anything. After a long pause, he slowly walked over and gently hugged Lola. "Lola, I'm sorry!"

If he hadn't gone abroad with Johnny back then, would they still be together, happy?

Lola patted him and whispered, "I'm doing fine now."

Gavin didn't bring it up again. He walked Lola downstairs.

Lola drove a Bentley. She got in the car and looked upstairs, "Go back up! Sarah is your arranged partner; don't make it too awkward."

Gavin nodded, "I know!"

Lola drove off.

Gavin didn't go back upstairs. He stood in the night wind, smoking. It was freezing outside, but he needed to clear his head.

After a long time, Clayton came down with Molly.

In the dark, Molly and Gavin's eyes met. Finally, Molly lowered her head and got into the car.

Gavin took a slow drag on his cigarette.

Clayton got in the car and quickly drove away.

Gavin watched them together and remembered Andrew saying that Molly had a boyfriend. Was she really with Clayton? Had they slept together?

Sarah came down and saw Gavin standing in the night wind. He was looking in one direction. She looked for a long time too, until she was shivering from the cold, and then called out, "Gavin!"

Gavin looked at her, somewhat coldly.

Sarah walked over, unable to hold back, and asked, "Did you come just for her?"

Gavin replied indifferently, "Didn't you already know?"

"Gavin, you jerk!"

Gavin frowned slightly and said rather coldly, "Sarah, if you could keep it together, I think we could get along just fine. But clearly, you can't."

"I can!" Sarah gritted her teeth, "Don't worry!"

She straightened up and said with a hint of mockery, "As for our engagement wedding dress, you know I asked Molly to design it. She can't back out now. How about we go see the finished product this Friday? You wouldn't be afraid to see them being all lovey-dovey?"

Gavin threw out, "Schedule it with my secretary." Then he opened the car door and got in.

Sarah was slightly stunned, "You're not going to drive me?"

Gavin sat in the car, adjusted his shirt collar in the rearview mirror, and said nonchalantly, "I thought an independent woman like you wouldn't care for a man's chivalry! Besides, I don't really want to." With that, he started the car.

Sarah angrily kicked the car door, "Gavin, you jerk!"

Gavin ignored her. Maybe Sarah wasn't the wife he wanted! She was far from rational, and he knew that she had probably set her sights on him early on! Knowing full well he was with Molly, she still wanted to marry him. Such affection wasn't something he valued! But for now, he wasn't completely tired of her. Or rather, he needed her as a cover.

His real goal was to see Molly, and Sarah, desperate to see him, played along, providing him with excuses to meet Molly. In the end, he and Sarah were both just as pathetic, each with their own sad reasons for the charade!

Molly sat next to Clayton.

She had already taken off the necklace, intending to return it to Lola personally. She wasn't really familiar with Lola.

Just as she was thinking, Clayton spoke up, "You say Gavin is shameless, but Lola is even more forward."

Molly said softly, "I heard from Amanda that Lola liked a boy, but after going abroad with Gavin, he never really came back. Their story just ended." Thinking of Gavin, she didn't feel like talking anymore.

Clayton glanced at her but didn't ask further.

When he dropped her off downstairs, Molly got out of the car and said goodbye. Just as she was about to head to the stairs, Clayton suddenly said, "Molly!"

Molly turned to look at him.

Clayton sat in the car. The night wind tousled his hair, adding a touch of sexiness.

Clayton said softly, "I might go back to Azurea Empire next year. Would you be willing to come with me?"

Azurea Empire?

Molly knew Clayton's family did business in Azurea Empire and did quite well. And he was just her agent. Asking her to go was equivalent to a confession.

Molly also knew that if she were with Clayton, he would cherish her. But for so long, she hadn't developed romantic feelings for him. If she stayed with him just for his kindness, it would be unfair to Clayton.

Molly didn't say anything.

Clayton smiled and waved at her, "Maybe you'll change your mind in a few days!"

Molly responded with a soft "hmm" and watched him drive away before entering the elevator to go home.

As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she saw a tall figure leaning against her door. It was Gavin!

Molly stood in the elevator for quite a while. The elevator doors had opened and closed again and again.

Finally, Gavin stepped forward and pulled her out. She was wearing a black coat over her cocktail dress, with a belt, still looking slender.

"Keys."

Molly stepped back a bit, "If you have something to say, say it here!"

She leaned slowly against the wall, her voice soft but very calm, "Yes, Andrew came to see me. I promised him I wouldn't have any more contact with you, Gavin. Don't come here anymore."

Gavin's gaze deepened. He noticed the necklace around her neck was gone, clearly not wanting it.

His voice was hoarse, "Let's talk inside; it's cold out here."

Molly didn't move.

Gavin pressed her against the wall, making her unable to move. He reached into her coat pocket and took out the keys. She bit her lip, "Gavin!"

Gavin silently opened the door. Once the door was open, he half-turned to look at her, "Let's talk inside."

Molly lightly bit her lip but still walked in.

Gavin followed her in, watching as she turned on the heater and then silently went to the kitchen to make coffee. This reminded him of their days living together. She loved coffee, always making the house smell like it.

Gavin quietly walked into the kitchen, standing just a bit behind her, and said softly, "How much do you remember about the past?"

"It doesn't matter now." Molly handed him a cup of coffee and looked up at him, "It's long over! Gavin, you have a girlfriend now, and I have a boyfriend. There's no need for us to have any more contact. Drink this coffee and leave."

Gavin set the coffee aside and looked down at her. Because he was so close, she turned her head uncomfortably, moving slightly away.

Gavin said in a low voice, "Can you really call Clayton a boyfriend? If he's your boyfriend, why doesn't he live with you? Why does he leave after dropping you off? Molly, you're lying."

Molly smiled faintly.

She walked back to the living room, and Gavin followed, turning her small shoulders, "Let me take care of you."

Molly gently shook him off.

She looked at him and asked, "What kind of care? Buying me a house, a car, or even giving me an endless amount of money? Gavin, how is that different from being a kept woman?"

At that point, she would become the bad woman people talked about.

Molly felt sad after saying this.

Despite the deception, their past relationship was genuine. What was it now? He had a girlfriend and still wanted to mess with her!

She lowered her stance, "Gavin, can you let me go?"

Molly finished speaking and walked to the window, looking at the dark night outside. The snow hadn't melted, weighing down the branches.

Gavin looked at her back. After a long time, he finally said with difficulty, "Okay." But as he was leaving, he felt like he had forgotten something. He walked over and hugged her. Molly was startled, but he quickly kissed her.

His hand slipped inside her coat. He just panted lightly against her neck, gently stroking her back, and said in a low voice, "Molly, you mean a lot to me."

She hugged herself tightly, trembling slightly, and whispered, "Get out!"

Gavin didn't move!

Molly suddenly ran into the small study, grabbed a stack of design drafts, and threw them in front of Gavin.

"Gavin! Do I have to be harsh? These are the wedding dresses your fiancée ordered. I think you'll be getting engaged and married soon. What does it mean for you to hold and kiss me now?"

She started to cry as she spoke, "How much more do you want to degrade me? I've already listened to you and left your world. Why do you still come to mess with me?"

Molly's face was pale, "Don't make me hate you."
