Chapter 611 Amara, You Clearly Still Have Feelings for Me!

The vibe in the room was super tense.

They were staring each other down across the table, looking so different from three years ago.

Amara dropped her gaze, her long lashes fluttering a bit. "Maybe! So, there's really no point in us dragging this out. Let's just move on."

"What about Jesse?" Kingsley asked, his deep eyes locked on her. "Are you planning to stay single while raising him?"

"Let's just see what happens!" Amara's words really ticked Kingsley off.

He stared at her for a long time, then suddenly got up and walked over to the big window. The city lights outside were blinding, and his back looked both regal and lonely. After a bit, he finally spoke, "Amara, is there still a chance for us, not just for Jesse?"

Amara sat at the table, looking at his back with teary eyes, feeling that same old heartache.

She slowly stood up and moved behind him. Even though they were just a few steps apart, it felt like a huge gap was between them.

Amara took a deep breath and tried to keep her voice steady. "After these three years, I've realized our relationship was a mistake. I'm glad you care about Jesse. If you want to see him, I can make it happen, but that's it. I can't do this anymore!"

Kingsley lit a cigarette and smoked with his back to her. The thin gray smoke blurred Amara's vision. She couldn't stay in this place filled with memories of Kingsley any longer. The weight of all those past moments, both good and bad, was too much.

Kingsley smoked half a cigarette.

He turned slightly and put it out, then turned to Amara. He quietly observed her, noticing how much she had changed.

Amara's lips trembled slightly, and she said, "Kingsley, let's just leave it at that!"

Kingsley gave a faint smile. "You still have feelings for me!"

Amara was about to snap back, but he cut her off, his expression turning cold. "Jesse is a Hawkins Family child; he can't stay with you forever."

Amara's heart tightened. "What do you want to do?"

Kingsley walked towards the study. When he reached the door, he turned back and said, "Come in and let's talk."

Amara had no choice but to follow him in.

Once inside, her secretary instincts kicked in, and she naturally closed the door. She looked at Kingsley, who was already seated at the desk, opening a drawer and sliding a document over to her.

He gave a slight nod, signaling for Amara to sit down and take a look.

Amara was puzzled, so she opened the document. After just a few seconds, she looked up at him. "Kingsley, what is this supposed to mean?"

Kingsley kept a straight face. "It's all there in black and white. Need me to read it for you?"

Amara clenched her teeth. "No need!"

She quickly skimmed through it, and by the end, she felt weak. Her gaze towards Kingsley was even more conflicted.

He was offering her and Jesse a house no smaller than 2,000 square feet, putting it in her name, and giving her a monthly allowance of a million dollars. This didn't even cover Jesse's education expenses and the inheritance he would get. As Jesse's other guardian, Kingsley could visit Jesse anytime, even stay overnight.

Amara didn't have to do anything in return.

But there was one catch: if she got married, Jesse's custody would go to Kingsley. On the surface, it seemed like a sweet deal, but in reality, Kingsley was pulling all the strings, even controlling her marriage!

"I don't agree." Amara shot back without hesitation.

Her response didn't surprise Kingsley.

If she had agreed easily, she wouldn't be Amara. Past or present, she always had a bit of fire in her. If she didn't, she wouldn't have left so decisively back then.

Kingsley took back the document, his long fingers flipping through it lightly. "Really not considering it? Aren't you afraid I'll fight you for Jesse?"

Amara shook her head. "You won't! Unless you want to hurt Jesse! Kingsley, you're still young. You and Ms. Cook will have your own kids in the future. Why make things harder for yourself by claiming Jesse as your own?"

"If I claim Jesse, I won't get married!"

Amara glared at him, her head pounding again. She really didn't know what Kingsley wanted!

But no matter what he wanted, she wasn't going to play along.

She stood up. "We've had dinner and talked. I'm leaving!"

Kingsley didn't move, but his blue eyes grew more intense. "Did I say you could leave?"

Amara shot back, "What else do you want? If you need to satisfy your physical needs, go find your girlfriend. If that doesn't work, write a check. I'm sure plenty of people would be happy to sleep with you."

Kingsley stared at her.

After a moment, instead of getting mad, he chuckled. "Amara, is sex the only thing on your mind now?"

Amara felt a bit annoyed.

Kingsley dropped the playful act and went all gentlemanly. "I'll drive you."

Amara shot back, "No need! I drove here."

Kingsley smirked. "Your tire should be flat by now! Let me take you."

Amara was furious. "You bastard!"

He stood up and walked towards her. Before she could react, he pinned her against the study door, way more passionately than before. His body pressed against hers, and his high-bridged nose lightly brushed against her delicate one. That skin-to-skin contact really got to her.

"I can be even more of a bastard! Want to try?"

Amara lifted her foot to kick him, but he caught her leg, gently stroking it.

Suddenly, Amara stopped moving.

In Kingsley's eyes, she saw intense desire. He was so close that with a slight blink, she could feel his lashes tremble.

"Want to try?" Kingsley's voice was even huskier than before, intoxicatingly seductive.

Amara was momentarily dazed.

In her distraction, she didn't seem as sharp and capable as usual, adding a touch of her past naivety. Kingsley couldn't help but capture her red lips, kissing her gently.

Amara was lost in it, but when Kingsley tried to deepen the kiss, she snapped back to reality and pushed him away with force, her chest heaving as she turned her face away in embarrassment.

Kingsley didn't force her.

He gently caressed her soft cheek and said in a low voice, "You clearly have feelings for me! Amara, have you had any other lovers these past few years?"

"That's none of your business!" Amara said hastily.

Thinking of him with Hannah, a wave of disgust washed over her. She couldn't accept that she had almost been lost in that kiss.

She cleared her throat. "I'll take a cab home. You can get my car fixed!"

Amara left quickly.

Kingsley followed, taking her coat and gently putting it on her from behind. "Why don't you move in? I'll take care of you and Jesse."

Amara was half-embraced by him.

Hearing his tender words, she felt a bit dazed. It seemed their focus had shifted; they had been talking about love and hate, and Jesse's future.

In reality, the more brutal truth was that she had left him, never intending to return to that relationship.

And he, years later, had Hannah, someone he planned to marry. He was like that because of Jesse and perhaps some lingering affection from the past, but ultimately, they both intended to let go of the relationship. While dating Hannah, he still entangled Amara in his mess, which made Amara feel a bit disgusted.

She pried his arms off and said coldly, "Mr. Hawkins, stop saying things like that!" With that, she grabbed her handbag and hurried out.

Downstairs, her car indeed had a flat tire.

Amara couldn't help but kick it a couple of times. He was such a jerk, doing whatever he wanted just because he had money and power.

Amara went home.

Hailey, worried, was waiting downstairs. In the winter night, Amara's figure looked thin and lonely.

Amara walked quickly.

Hailey saw her and came up, looking her over. "Where's the car?"

Amara stood still for a few seconds before saying softly, "It's broken down under Kingsley's building."

Hailey was silent. After a while, she stammered, "I didn't mean to hide it from you. He found out himself."

Amara said softly, "I'm not blaming you, Hailey. Let's talk at home."

Hailey responded, but she felt a bit guilty.

She had taken a hundred thousand dollars from Kingsley. Amara would definitely be unhappy if she found out. All these years, she had worked hard to prove that she could live well without Kingsley.

In the hallway, the lights were dim.

Amara asked softly about Jesse. Hailey said, "Jesse has been coaxed to sleep! I was worried about you, so I came down to check."

Amara nodded.

The windows at home were all equipped with safety features, and Jesse was usually well-behaved and obedient.

Amara told Hailey about Kingsley.

Hailey was taking out the keys to open the door. After hearing it, her eyes widened. "What is Kingsley doing? This is how he keeps a mistress! And not allowing you to get married? How shameless is he?"

Amara gave a bitter smile.

Even Hailey could see it, yet Kingsley still acted this way. If he wasn't a jerk, what was he?

Hailey comforted her, "Don't worry! If he dares to openly fight for Jesse, I'll go to their company and accuse him of toying with a mistress and trying to keep one. Let's see if the Hawkins Family feels ashamed!"

Amara shook her head. "He won't push it to that extent."

She had been his secretary before and knew Kingsley's methods. He liked to treat his opponents like small fish, frying them until they were almost done, then appearing as a benefactor, making people grateful.

Amara felt like she was that small fish now.

Kingsley was merely testing her with bait, not even getting serious yet.
