Chapter 822 Clayton Is the Best Gift!
Gavin stood at the doorway, unintentionally catching snippets of the conversation.
He quietly closed the door behind him. The hallway was dimly lit as he walked, unbuttoning his coat.
When he returned to the master bedroom, Molly was still awake.
The room was warm, and she was sitting on the sofa in a light blue nightgown, reading a book.
Molly handled most of the children's education. She had almost given up her career to focus on being Gavin's wife.
Others thought it was a shame because she had been a well-known wedding dress designer, admired by many celebrities.
But Molly didn't feel it was a loss.
She enjoyed being Gavin's wife and didn't mind being known as "Mrs. Devereux".
Perhaps others saw Gavin as domineering and strong-willed, but to her, he was the best husband.
Gavin casually placed his coat down and sat next to Molly.
He pulled her into his arms and took a deep breath. "You took a bath? Smells nice!"
Molly whispered, "Dad waited for you downstairs until 11 PM. He couldn't stay up any longer and went to bed..."
She gently played with the buttons on his shirt, cautiously saying, "Can you come home earlier next time?"
Gavin stared at her intently.
Molly knew what Gavin liked.
She straddled his waist, wrapped her arms around his neck, and blushing, kissed him...
He didn't respond, just looked down at her.
Molly didn't dare to kiss him deeply, only daring to kiss his chin like a kitten.
Finally, Gavin had enough.
He touched her cheek and said hoarsely, "The servants will bring up dinner soon. It wouldn't look good if they saw you like this... Tomorrow, they'll probably prepare a special meal for me again."
Molly thought he was being mischievous.
Even though it was clearly Gavin who wanted to make love, the servants always thought she was the one who couldn't get enough of him.
Molly felt annoyed just thinking about it.
But over the years, she had learned not to argue.
As they spoke, a servant indeed entered, carrying a tray... Seeing the young couple sitting intertwined, the servant blushed.
Molly blushed even more.
She tried to get off Gavin, but the man, who had been in a bad mood all day, lazily patted her butt, "Feeling shy now?"
Molly was silent.
The servant, however, was quite happy, smiling and saying, "Mr. Devereux and Mrs. Devereux are so loving. You could still have another child."
Gavin reached into his coat pocket, pulled out some money, and handed it to her.
The servant took it, placed the tray down, and quickly left, thoughtfully closing the door behind her.
Molly tried to get off, but Gavin wouldn't let her.
With no one to disturb them, Gavin finally showed some interest, holding Molly's waist and kissing her... He kissed and touched her, clearly intending to go further.
Molly, afraid he would really go through with it, quickly hugged his neck and whispered, "Let's wait until you're done with work."
Gavin rested his forehead against hers, his warm breath on her face.
His voice was slightly hoarse, "I want it now."
Molly softly comforted him, promising various things, and Gavin finally let her go.
They talked about Clayton and Natalie.
Molly, trying to be fair, didn't dare say a word in favor of Clayton. Gavin teased her, "Come on, I know what you're thinking."
He leaned over, elegantly eating his late-night snack.
Molly hugged his arm and whispered, "Natalie likes him!"
Gavin looked at Molly, silent for a moment before saying, "I know."
Because Natalie and Clayton had been married, they had lived together for quite a long time... Such a life couldn't be easily forgotten.
After dinner, Gavin wanted to smoke a cigarette but refrained because of Molly.
Molly didn't like the smell of smoke in the bedroom.
He looked up at the night sky, where a crescent moon hung.
He thought, 'If Clayton and Natalie had a real child... how wonderful and complete that would be!'
The day before the Fireworks Festival.
Natalie received a gift from Clayton, delivered early in the morning.
It was a very exquisite box.
Inside was not expensive jewelry or a limited-edition handbag, but a butterfly specimen... and a card with a romantic message from Clayton.
Natalie sat on the living room sofa, the heating was on.
In the bedroom, Haven was sleeping soundly.
She looked at the card and the specimen Clayton had made, feeling as if she had returned to the past, to their newlywed days.
Occasionally, when Clayton went on business trips, he would bring her gifts, sometimes expensive, sometimes just thoughtful little things he made.
Natalie loved it, looking at it again and again.
During the Fireworks Festival, what gift could be more delightful than this?
Gavin stood at the doorway, watching for a while. He didn't come in, just said from outside, "Lost in thought?"
Natalie hugged the box and smiled at him.
Gavin, both amused and exasperated, called her a little fool...
Finally, he came in, waking up the sleeping Haven. Gavin dressed Haven, saying seriously, "Time to go shopping!"
Haven, still sleepy, hugged Gavin.
Soon, her little head rested on Gavin's shoulder, and she fell asleep again.
Gavin dressed Haven and carried her away. Later, it turned out Leopold wanted to play with Haven... Mercy had grown up, and now Haven was his little toy.
Haven pouted, "Leopold is a bad guy!"
During the Fireworks Festival, with family taking care of the kids, Natalie had some free time to go out.
She had been abroad for several years and didn't have many friends back home.
The day after the Fireworks Festival, she received a call from a college classmate, inviting her to a school reunion.
Natalie usually avoided such events because it often meant running into Grant.
Now that he had a fiancée, she wanted to avoid any awkwardness.
Her classmate probably guessed her thoughts and laughed, "Don't worry, Grant won't be there. He'll be with his fiancée!"
Natalie couldn't refuse anymore.
Chloe, who overheard, encouraged Natalie to go out and relax, "You haven't made many friends since you came back. Reconnect with old friends and go out more."
Chloe's intentions were simple. She wanted Natalie to have her own social circle.
Natalie hesitated but agreed.
Chloe happily said, "Dress cheerfully today!"
Natalie looked at herself, wearing a light gray coat... But at her age, she couldn't wear bright red out. She finally chose a light pink scarf, which looked warm and soft.
Natalie drove herself.
It was a pink Mercedes SUV, which she had just bought before the Fireworks Festival, perfect for a woman her age.
Half an hour later, she parked in the hotel courtyard.
A few people were already waiting. Seeing Natalie's car, they couldn't help but smirk.
Clara was there too. She flipped her wavy hair and lightly laughed, "So what! Natalie has at least ten limited-edition cars at home. She can drive whatever she wants."
The others fell silent.
Natalie parked, got out, and seeing Clara, guessed that today's event was probably arranged by Clara.
If she wasn't mistaken, Grant was there too, maybe even his fiancée. Clara just wanted to see her embarrassed.
Natalie wasn't flustered.
She looked at the person who had called her, who lowered their head guiltily.
Natalie smiled faintly, "Long time no see!"
They exchanged pleasantries.
Clara abruptly said, "Natalie, Grant and his fiancée are here too."
Everyone looked at Natalie.
Natalie smiled slightly, "That's great! I couldn't attend their engagement, so today I can meet his fiancée."
She remained calm.
Clara was furious, wondering why she still cared, but Natalie seemed so composed. She didn't believe Natalie could be so calm, thinking she must be pretending.
They chatted as they returned to the hotel hall.
Several large tables were set up, roughly a hundred people.
The main table was for the most successful, with Grant and his fiancée at the head.
There was an empty seat next to Grant, clearly reserved for Natalie, the Devereux family's eldest daughter.
Of course, it was also to watch the drama.
Natalie couldn't guarantee that seeing Grant would leave her completely unaffected.
After all, they had shared a painful youth and even had a child. The current peace was just their unspoken understanding.
But she had gained composure.
If she calmly sat down and greeted Grant, others might tease them about reuniting, but what else could they say?
Natalie did just that. She sat down, even nodding politely to Grant's fiancée, very courteous and proper.
The fiancée, also a dignified person, smiled and nodded back.
Clara felt bitter.
During the meal, Natalie ate little and spoke less... mostly scrolling through her phone.
Suddenly, a message popped up.
It was from Clayton: [At a reunion with your classmates?]
Natalie looked at it for a while, blinking.
She didn't ask how he knew, but sent her location and honestly replied: [Decided to come last minute! Leaving after dinner.]
Clayton replied: [Okay.]
What did that mean?
Natalie thought he wouldn't be back until the day after tomorrow and sighed softly.
Just then, Clara came over with a glass of wine.
She could hold her liquor, having trained by Grant's side. She felt Grant had wronged her, but she hated not Grant the most, but Natalie and his future wife.
Clara looked at Natalie and smiled, "Natalie, let's drink together, us two failures!"
Natalie felt sorry for her.
She was married and still couldn't let go of Grant, even with his fiancée present!
Clara lost her composure, "What? Afraid to drink? You don't have to be afraid, Natalie. Even if you don't drink, Grant will feel sorry for you and drink for you!"
At these words, people around started whispering.
Natalie's voice turned cold, "Clara, you've had too much."
"I haven't had too much! I'm very clear-headed!"
Clara laughed, "I just want to see if Grant has forgotten you. I don't believe he can forget you and marry someone else! Natalie, I'm helping you!"
Natalie thought she was crazy!
Just then, a strong hand took the glass from Natalie's hand.
At the same time, a familiar voice said, "I'll drink for Natalie."
Natalie looked up, stunned to see Clayton...
How had he come back? He wasn't supposed to be back until the day after tomorrow!
