Chapter 92 Don't Get Upset Over Trifles
Frederick's eyes were intense. He whispered in her ear, "How about I give Jessica a six-month break? Then it'd just be us in the apartment, and we could do it whenever we want! What do you think, Charlotte?"
"Stop it. We'll do it tonight!" Charlotte teased him.
Frederick gently held her hand. Charlotte let out a soft sigh, leaned on his shoulder, and silently agreed.
With Charlotte's consent, Frederick smoothly took of her pjs..
Outside, Jessica was quietly doing housework when she heard noises from the master bedroom. Experienced as she was, she quickly figured out what was happening and blushed.
Listening for a bit, Jessica thought, 'Mr. Hawkins hasn't had a woman in a long time, making such a noise. Miss Russell, being so gentle, must can not take it!'
In the bedroom, Frederick, mindful of work hours, didn't fully enjoy himself.
He took a shower, changed into clean clothes, and walked over to the bed while tying his tie.
He had been so focused on sex the whole night that he almost forgot something important.
He bent down and lightly brushed Charlotte's cheek. "Do you have time during the day to pick out a few dresses?"
Charlotte, half-kneeling, obediently helped him with his tie.
She was only wearing one of his shirts, the one he had taken off last night, and as she bent over, quite a bit of her body was revealed. Frederick, being highly desirous, couldn't help but narrow his eyes. He gently held her, his breath slightly uneven.
Charlotte blushed, letting him have his way. She thought for a moment and said, "I bought a few dresses last time; they should do."
Frederick frowned, seemingly a bit displeased. But his tone was gentle. "I'll have Cherie send some over!"
Charlotte noticed his displeasure and guessed that he somewhat looked down on her taste. Charlotte knew this herself, as her family was only middle-class, far from the elite.
At this moment, she felt a mix of emotions, unsure whether to refuse or not.
But she also knew that Frederick didn't need always to consider her feelings.
She finished tying his tie and gently smoothed out the wrinkles.
The air was filled with silence.
Frederick gently hugged her. "Are you mad? It's just having Cherie send them over to save you the trouble of choosing. If you're not happy, you can ask Lily to go with you."
Charlotte sensed how important this event was to him and knew that her choices probably wouldn't satisfy him.
After some thought, she smiled slightly. "Let Cherie send them; she has good taste."
Frederick didn't insist further.
He gently stroked her face and coaxed, "Don't get upset over such a trifle, okay?"
Charlotte wasn't someone who didn't understand, but his unintentional words reminded her that their relationship was inherently unequal.
Frederick held the upper hand. Whatever he wanted to do was expected.
Just like when Jessica came over earlier, she hadn't wanted to continue, but Frederick did, so Charlotte had to comply. If he wasn't satisfied and got in a bad mood, she had to endure it.
Charlotte felt conflicted.
She felt a bit wrong, but she couldn't express it. Their relationship was what it was; she was there to make him happy and couldn't expect him always to accommodate her.
Frederick knew she was genuinely upset.
They had been getting along well recently, and he enjoyed being intimate with her, so he softened his tone to comfort her, "I'll bring you a necklace tonight, okay? You used to wear one around your neck; why don't you wear it anymore?"
In fact, he couldn't remember what kind of necklace Charlotte wore; he was trying to find something to talk about to ease the tension.
Frederick made a concession, and Charlotte stopped sulking.
She didn't tell him the truth, only vaguely saying, "I lost it by accident."
Frederick took the opportunity to whisper in her ear, "Why do you always lose things?"
