Chapter 636 He Regretted It, He Wanted to Start Over with Her!

Jimmy's rambling almost made Kingsley hang up, but eventually, Jimmy managed to calm him down.

Late at night, they just picked a random spot in the corner of the bar. Even then, they still caught the eyes of many girls, some of whom came over to chat.

Kingsley, being the proud guy he was, ignored them completely.

Jimmy, with his long fingers sporting a wedding ring, held a cigarette and turned them down. "I'm already married."

The girls left, disappointed.

Jimmy squinted as he smoked, blowing out a thin stream of smoke, and lightly tapped the bar. "If you can't stop thinking about Amara, then go after her! Just so you know, Amara's got plenty of guys chasing her now!"

Kingsley just clinked his mug with Jimmy's.

Jimmy smiled, shaking his head. "You're so stubborn!"

They drank until 2 AM, and Jimmy finally said he couldn't drink anymore since he had to work to support his family the next day, so he left first.

Kingsley stayed a bit longer.

When he got to the car, Jared was already dozing off inside.

Kingsley got in, and Jared jolted awake. "Are we heading back to the Hawkins Mansion?"

Kingsley leaned back in the rear seat and said softly, "Go to the apartment."

Jared wiped his face and started driving, trying to stay awake.

After a while, Jared started chatting, "That house is empty anyway. Actually, it would be nice if Amara and Jesse lived there. It's close to your company, and you could conveniently have lunch there."

Kingsley turned his head to look outside.

Jared didn't dare to say anything more.

The car stopped in front of the apartment, and Kingsley told Jared to leave first. He went upstairs alone.

The apartment was regularly cleaned and organized, everything was as usual.

But it still felt empty from being unoccupied for a long time.

Kingsley felt uncomfortable after drinking, but he didn't want to sleep. Despite his success, he wished for someone to hold at night, but there was no one.

He walked to the guest room, sat by the bed for a while, then lay down.

The apartment was cold without the heating on, but Kingsley didn't want to move. He lay there for a long time before taking out the diamond ring he gave Amara from his pocket, which she had taken off and he had retrieved from Jesse without telling her.

They both knew without saying.

Up to now, Kingsley didn't regret his decision, but he was unhappy. He was surrounded by many beauties, but he didn't want to get close to any of them.

Now lying on this bed, he felt even more lonely.

He stared at the ring for a long time, then gently put it back in the drawer. He woke up thirsty in the middle of the night, and when he opened his eyes, he realized he had called out Amara's name.

In the dark, Kingsley looked at the ceiling, recalling the past with Amara and their recent interactions. He wasn't sure if it was regret, but he wanted to see her now.

Early in the morning, Amara went downstairs, ready to go to work.

Just as she was about to get in the car, she saw a white Bentley parked nearby, with the door half-open and a long leg sticking out. From her angle, she could see the light pink interior.

It was obviously Kingsley's car.

Amara looked for a few seconds, not planning to pay attention, and was about to leave.

"Amara." Kingsley's voice was rough from the hangover.

Amara paused, gently closed the car door, and turned around. "What are you doing here?"

Kingsley got out of the car and walked over, checking his watch. "How about we grab breakfast? There's a great spot up ahead with food you like."

Amara took a moment to process his words.

If she wasn't being narcissistic, she might think he was trying to patch things up. But was there even anything left to fix?

She politely declined, "I've already eaten."

Kingsley bent down to grab his wallet from the car. "It's still early; keep me company."

Amara laughed in exasperation.

Just then, Hailey came downstairs with the adorable Jesse to play. Hearing this, Hailey said cheerfully, "Jesse didn't eat much. Mr. Hawkins, if you join him, he'd be thrilled."

Kingsley did love Jesse. But right now, his mind wasn't on Jesse, but he couldn't say that. He picked up Jesse. "How about we ask your mom to join us?"

Jesse's voice was clear. "I want to have breakfast with both mom and dad."

Amara had left early and had half an hour to spare.

She was willing to fulfill Jesse's request, so she silently locked the car.

Hailey didn't want to intrude, so she found an excuse to leave.

The breakfast place was bustling, mostly with office workers and nearby residents, giving it a lively vibe. Kingsley, always impeccably dressed, looked out of place sitting there.

Jesse sat obediently next to him, and Kingsley, enduring his hangover headache, fed Jesse.

Kingsley ate a few bites himself and said, "It's not as good as Hailey's cooking."

Amara ordered a glass of milk and drank it slowly. "You've only eaten it a few times! Did you drink last night? How did you manage to drive here?"

Kingsley smiled faintly.

Jesse was very happy today. He hugged Kingsley's arm with his small hands and said softly, "Last night, I got up to go to the bathroom. It was 3 AM, and mom was still working! Dad, can you support me and mom so she doesn't have to work so hard?"

Kingsley knew Jesse had been watching TV again.

He didn't argue but looked at Amara, noticing the faint dark circles under her eyes, even with makeup.

Kingsley said softly, "Does work have to be this busy? Are you risking your life for money?"

Amara didn't want to discuss this in front of Jesse, and Kingsley held back as well.

After breakfast, Hailey took Jesse away, and Kingsley got into the passenger seat of Amara's car.

Amara turned to him. "I have to go to work."

Kingsley looked at her face and asked softly, "Is Landon really that important? Is he worth you working so hard?"

Amara turned her face away.

She sat up straight, looking ahead, and after a while, her voice sounded faintly. "Kingsley, you still don't understand why I'm working so hard! It's not for Landon, nor is it for the Carter Group. It's for myself. I have to work hard to support the family."

After she finished, she felt a bit lost.

Kingsley called her name. Amara turned her head, her eyes a bit misty, and said, "Kingsley, I know why you came over in the middle of the night, but we really aren't suitable."

She paused and said softly, "You seem pretty critical of my work. But didn't you let Hannah into the house? Isn't your car always available for others? I'm afraid that one day you'll be unhappy again and make me leave, taking it out on me with others! So I'd rather work hard than rely on anyone."

After a long silence, Kingsley said quietly, "You mind a lot, don't you?"

Amara's voice was hoarse. "Get out of the car; I'm going to be late!"

This time, Kingsley didn't make things difficult for her. He got out of the car and closed the door for her. Amara quickly drove away.

Their breakup was decisive, but that didn't mean she wasn't sad. But what could she do about it? She had told him he needed to learn to respect her, otherwise, even if they were together, they would still end up separating.

Half an hour later, Amara arrived at the company.

She handled some matters, and by ten o'clock, she had her secretary schedule a meeting with Floyd to discuss financing.

On the other side, Floyd hung up the phone and started considering his thoughts.

He and Charlotte were indeed old friends, and she had helped him. But after getting to know Amara, he really admired her and thought she was a perfect match for Rufus.

Floyd knew Amara's background, but so what? Both were single.

Floyd decided he wanted Amara to be his daughter-in-law.

After much deliberation, he decided to be a gentleman. So he called Charlotte, and when she answered, Floyd hesitantly explained his intentions.

Charlotte could hardly believe it and asked again, "Are you sure?"

Floyd chuckled. "I think Amara is great! She's beautiful and capable. My son is passionate about research, and in the future, Amara could manage the family business. Ms. Russell, don't you think this is a match made in heaven?"

Charlotte reminded him. "She has a child with Kingsley."

Floyd didn't mind. "Then I get a lovely grandson for free? I've seen the photos, he's adorable. Ms. Russell, rest assured, I will treat that child as my own grandson. If Amara is willing, he can even take the Palmer name. Jesse Palmer, doesn't that sound nice?"

Charlotte hung up the phone directly.

Next to her, Frederick, who had been listening for a while, couldn't help but curse, "Is there really such a shameless person? Charlotte, you've brought trouble upon yourself, haven't you?"

Charlotte felt uncomfortable too.

She originally wanted to help Amara, but now she had made Amara the object of Floyd's attention.

The worst part was, Rufus was also quite outstanding, good-looking, and considerate. Thinking about Kingsley's proud nature, Charlotte had a headache!

Just then, Kingsley came back to change clothes.

Charlotte looked at him. "Have you been drinking?"

Kingsley nodded. "Had a few drinks with Jimmy, and had breakfast with Jesse this morning."

Charlotte felt complicated. "Why didn't you bring Jesse back?"

He paused. "I still have to go to the company later."

As he was about to go upstairs, Frederick couldn't help but mock. "Someone is trying to win Amara over, and you're still going to the company! If you don't set aside your pride, you'll regret it later!"

"What do you mean?"

Kingsley turned around and looked at Frederick.

Frederick couldn't hold back and spilled everything. "You know Floyd, right? His son is also quite good, and now he's interested in Amara! Kingsley, Syeattel is full of wealthy young men. You don't have any advantage anymore, do you?"

Kingsley said calmly, "Amara is not that kind of person."

Charlotte said softly, "You are right, but when she went to Bostan, why couldn't you be more understanding? You had to take the Ascend Global Group project from her and block her way out. Now, if she doesn't stay at the Carter Group, she can't develop in Syeattel."

Kingsley listened quietly.

Next to him, Frederick lit a cigarette. "Target Mr. Palmer, and take over his company's projects, and see how he competes with you for Amara. Kingsley, isn't this what you're best at?"

He was provoking Kingsley, and also mocking him.

Unexpectedly, Kingsley calmly unbuttoned his shirt and said, "Good idea!"

Frederick looked at Kingsley's noble back and pointed at him, asking Charlotte, "How can he be so shameless?"

Charlotte calmly drank her coffee. "Wasn't it your idea?"

Frederick was speechless.

By this time, Kingsley had already gone downstairs. After freshening up, he looked revitalized, which made Frederick jealous. "It's a pity you don't have a wife with all that energy!"

Kingsley buttoned his cufflinks. "I'll have one soon."

"You're just bragging!"

Kingsley smiled faintly, walked out, and Jared was already waiting by the car.

Amara had scheduled a business dinner with Floyd.

At 8 PM, she arrived on time, but when she opened the door, she was stunned.

Besides Floyd and his secretary, there was a young man in his thirties, whose features resembled Floyd's. He must be his son.

Additionally, Maurice and Zachary were also there.

In the past, Amara would have left immediately in such a situation. Her estrangement from the Hughes Family didn't mean she didn't care about what Zachary had done.

If it weren't for his deception, she wouldn't have become an illegitimate child, and her mother wouldn't have met such a tragic end.

The secretary whispered in her ear, "This looks like a matchmaking dinner!"

Amara's gaze fixed on Zachary. After a while, she said lightly, "So both Mr. Hughes are here."

After saying that, she went in and sat down.

Floyd was very fond of her. Unexpectedly, Amara was the daughter of the Hughes Family. Everyone knew that Sarah from the Hughes Family was incapable, and when Zachary approached him, he expressed his importance to Amara.

Floyd and he hit it off.

If the Hughes Family and the Palmer Family were to unite through marriage, it would be a powerful alliance.

Floyd smiled. "Calling Mr. Hughes is too formal! There are no outsiders here. This is my son, Rufus, a researcher. I brought him here specifically to meet you."

Amara understood.

She smiled slightly. "It seems you value this project very much, bringing your son to inspect it. I'm flattered."

She subtly shifted the conversation to business.

Floyd was taken aback, then admired her even more. He got Amara a glass of sake. "Not really, it's just that young people communicate better!"

Amara continued to smile faintly. She guessed if she wanted Floyd's investment, she probably had to become the daughter-in-law of the Palmer Family.
