Chapter 842 I Know You Are Daddy

Due to the bathroom incident yesterday, Andrew asked Clayton to leave, and just like that, he lost his job taking care of Natalie.

As he was leaving, Clayton glanced at Natalie.

Natalie was sipping her soup, deliberately avoiding his gaze.

Clayton watched her for a moment.

Gavin shooed him away, "Quit staring! It won't change anything!"

Clayton, keeping his usual calm demeanor, packed his things, then picked up Haven with one arm and had her say goodbye to her mom.

Haven waved at Natalie, looking sweet and adorable.

Natalie, having just given birth to her second child, couldn't ignore her firstborn.

She called Haven over and gave her a kiss, "Go stay with him for a few days. Once Mommy is out of the hospital, we'll all go home together."

Haven was happy to go with Clayton.

She kissed Natalie, then kissed Chance, and finally let Clayton carry her out.

After they left, Gavin asked Andrew, "Dad, you're just letting him go like that? And taking our kid with him? Isn't that too easy on him?"

Andrew, sitting on the couch with his glasses on, reading the newspaper, replied calmly, "How is it easy on him?"

"Didn't you hear Haven call him Daddy? Being a dad isn't that simple. He has to put in the effort to take care of the kids. Otherwise, with too much free time, he'll just think about taking advantage of women."

Gavin fell silent.

Natalie felt a bit uneasy, "Dad, it's not like that..."

Andrew folded the newspaper, "I think he's too idle! Let him take care of the kid!"

Gavin thought his dad was still sharp as ever.

Meanwhile, Natalie was drinking her soup when she received a message from Clayton. It was just a short sentence: [Did you tell Dad about last night?]

The message seemed ordinary but also a bit ambiguous, as if he was reminding her about what happened last night.

Natalie glanced at it and then put her phone down.

On the couch, Andrew adjusted his glasses and said calmly, "It seems taking care of one child is too easy. From now on, let him take care of his son too! Raising children isn't just a woman's job."

Chloe said he had double standards.

She told Gavin and Natalie, "Your dad didn't say that when he was younger. Now he has a different set of rules."

Gavin laughed and held Chance up for Andrew to see.

Andrew looked at him for a long time.

Downstairs, Clayton put Haven in the child seat. Once in the car, he sent a message to Natalie.

He knew she wouldn't reply.

But he just wanted to send it.

Though it seemed a bit rogue, he needed to find ways to stay present in her life. If they were as polite and distant as she wanted, they'd never end up together.

Clayton looked at his phone for a while. From the back seat, Haven said pitifully, "Daddy, I'm hungry!"

Clayton put down his phone, "Alright! Let's go get some food."

But Haven wanted to eat the food he made. She also wanted to use king crab to make a special kids' meal, probably something Natalie had made for her before!

Clayton turned to look at her and then said cheerfully, "You really know how to make things difficult! Alright, I'll make the meal."

Haven was overjoyed.

She sat in her child seat, her little feet swinging happily.

She said in a soft voice, "Mommy said it should be cheese-flavored."

Hearing Natalie being mentioned, Clayton felt even better.

He looked at Haven and said gently, "Then Daddy will make you a cheese-flavored meal. Tonight, you take a good bath and sleep well. Tomorrow, go to school and let Mommy take care of your brother, okay?"

Haven obediently agreed.

Clayton wanted to kiss her but started the car instead.

As summer turned to fall, the weather was cool.

Clayton took Haven to the supermarket, put her in a small cart... Clayton was handsome, and Haven was a little beauty, attracting a lot of attention.

Besides buying ingredients, Clayton also got Haven her favorite fruits and milk.

Haven was so happy she squealed.

At the checkout, the cashier couldn't help but admire Haven, then said to Clayton, "Sir, your daughter is so beautiful!"

Clayton, carrying the bags in one hand and holding Haven in the other, smiled and said, "Thank you for the compliment."

Haven, with her sweet mouth, was very likable. Along the way, she happily counted on her fingers what was bought for Chance.

Clayton smiled, "He can't eat these yet!"

"He can't?" Haven said regretfully, "Then I'll have to eat them for him."

On a smooth stretch of road, Clayton put her down and held her little hand, letting her walk on her own... Haven walked with a bounce, showing off her pretty dress.

The scene was incredibly heartwarming.

At the supermarket entrance, they ran into Grant. Grant quietly watched Haven, the child he had let down...

Haven saw him and stopped.

She clung tightly to Clayton's hand.

When Haven was nervous, it was quite obvious.

Clayton looked at Grant, then at Haven... He bent down and said gently, "What's wrong? Don't you recognize him?"

Haven, looking aggrieved, softly called out, "Mr. McCall."

Grant was alone.

He had just parked his car and happened to see Clayton and Haven. He wanted to see her... It seemed like a long time since he had seen her, and she had grown a lot.

He squatted down and waved at Haven.

Haven hesitated.

Clayton gently patted her head and said softly, "Go say hello."

It was only a few steps away.

Haven walked gracefully, like a little lady. When she reached Grant, she carefully placed her hand on his arm. She did recognize Grant; he used to watch her from afar.

Children are very sensitive.

Grant's heart was filled with complex emotions. If there was anyone in the world he felt most guilty towards, it was this child...

He gently touched her face, so many words stuck in his throat, finally just managing a small smile, "Listen to your mommy and Dad Clayton."

His voice trembled slightly.

Perhaps, in the countless nights he lay awake, he still felt regret, which led to his reckless actions.

His marriage was a mess, and he wouldn't drag Haven into that chaos. She had many people who loved her; he just needed to watch from afar.

Haven's delicate face tilted up.

She suddenly reached out and touched Grant's face, saying, "Mommy says grown-ups don't cry."

Grant couldn't help it; he gently hugged her.

Haven obediently lay on his shoulder. Children aren't completely clueless; even though no one had ever told her, she knew in her heart.

Her little hand wiped Grant's eyes.

Haven's voice was very soft, "I know, you're my other daddy!"

Grant's body stiffened.

Haven seemed to sense his emotions. She hugged him tighter and then boldly kissed him on the cheek...

At that moment, Grant felt his defenses crumble.

He suppressed and suppressed, barely holding back.

He picked Haven up, looked at her face for a long time, then handed her back to Clayton... Clayton had been watching the whole time.

Grant's voice was soft, "Take good care of her!"

With that, he turned and left abruptly.

Clayton held Haven, who sat on his arm, watching Grant walk away.

After a while, Clayton asked her softly, "You know he's your dad, don't you?"

Haven turned and hugged his neck.

Haven was quite proud, refusing to speak. Later, as Clayton carried her, she gently called him "Daddy"...

In her memory, it was mostly Clayton who had been there.

Clayton patted her little head and said softly, "Grow up quickly!"

Meanwhile, Grant canceled his plans.

He sat alone in his car.

He turned off all his phones, leaning back in his seat, thinking about Haven hugging him and saying she knew he was her dad... No matter how she knew, she knew.

Grant's eyes were hot.

He thought, if he went to his meeting, he would definitely lose his composure.

At that moment, he thought of Nancy... his wife!

Since the incident on their wedding day, his relationship with Nancy had been very delicate.

They were still married in name... but they hardly lived together. He realized he hadn't seen her in days.

Grant let out a long sigh.

He pulled down the mirror, looking at his own face, and after a long time, he started the car and drove back to the villa.

When he got back, it was just in time for lunch.

In the dining room, the servants had set the table and laid out the dishes. They were about to call Nancy down for lunch when they saw Grant return.

The servant was surprised, "Mr. McCall, you're back? I'll call Mrs. McCall to join you for lunch."

Everyone knew about the strained relationship between Grant and Nancy.

So, seeing Grant come back during the day and show concern for Nancy, the servant was pleased.

Grant stopped her.

He said softly, "I'll go call her myself."

The servant, rubbing her hands, said, "Alright, I'll have the chef prepare a couple more dishes."

Her reaction was so obvious, Grant couldn't miss it.

As he went upstairs, he thought about why he had chosen to come back.

Perhaps it was Haven's hug that reminded him of his pregnant wife, reminded him of the child she was carrying.

So he wanted to come back and see Nancy.
