Chapter 199 What I want is to spend my life with you!
Charlotte had never met anyone so shameless.
She stormed out.
Frederick didn't chase her, but it seemed he had a plan.
When Charlotte stepped outside, a sleek black limo was waiting. The driver respectfully asked, "Miss Russell, where to? Mr. Hawkins said to take you wherever you need."
Charlotte declined.
She felt Frederick was setting a trap for her.
She wasn't about to fall for it.
It was late, and she walked alone. The neon lights were beautiful, but she wasn't in the mood to enjoy them.
She wandered to the city park. A Ferris wheel spun with colorful lights, and children's laughter filled the air, pure and sweet.
Charlotte paused.
She imagined Bradley and Lily's future child playing here. Lily wouldn't dare ride it, so Bradley would go with the kid.
They'd be a happy family of three.
Charlotte wanted to see Lily.
She bought some supplements and took a cab to Lily's apartment. Bradley was out.
Charlotte went in and put the stuff down.
She noticed Lily's pale face, likely from stress and poor eating.
Charlotte sat on the small sofa and picked up a nearby book. It was a parenting manual. When Lily returned, she saw it and things got a bit awkward.
Lily set down her coffee, her voice shaky. "Charlotte, do you think less of me?"
Charlotte patted her hand, trying to sound casual. "What are you talking about? Being pregnant is a blessing. So many people struggle to have kids. You should take care of yourself and the baby. It'll be beautiful, with you and Bradley as parents."
Lily's eyes filled with tears.
She gently hugged Charlotte, her voice breaking. "Charlotte, I'm scared. I'm afraid I can't give this child a good life! The timing is awful! Bradley is fighting with his family over this. I'm so scared he won't hold on!"
Charlotte hugged her, holding her quietly for a while.
She said, "Bradley seems to love you a lot, and he'll love the baby too. Lily, have the baby. No matter what Robert or Bradley does, have the baby. If it comes to it, I'll help you raise it!"
Lily leaned on her shoulder, crying.
She wasn't usually weak, but the past year had worn her down, making her sensitive and fragile.
Charlotte didn't say much and didn't mention her plea to Frederick.
Before leaving, she left a $200,000 check, claiming it was dividends from the music studio. But Lily knew her investment couldn't yield that much in a year. She hesitated, not wanting to take it.
Charlotte pressed it into her hand. "It's for the baby!"
Lily laughed. "Then the baby should call you Daddy!"
Charlotte rarely swore, but she did now. "Screw you!"
As she was leaving, Charlotte ran into Robert downstairs.
He wasn't planning to go up, just sat in his car smoking. When he saw Charlotte, he quickly got out. "Charlotte!"
After everything, Charlotte really hated him, but she didn't want to say anything hurtful. She just said softly, "Let Lily go. You know it's the right thing."
Robert looked dejected. He took a deep drag on his cigarette, then threw it down and stomped it out.
He looked at Charlotte.
Their relationship had been bad for a long time, but now he was unusually polite. "Charlotte, don't be fooled by Lily's cheerful act. She listens to you a lot. I know I've offended you, but for the sake of my relationship with Lily, please say a few good words for me. If she comes back, I'll pretend nothing happened. I won't mention a word!"
Charlotte looked at him and felt he was down and out.
She calmly said, "Robert, you never really loved Lily. When you were pursuing her, you were already sleeping with Tina. True love includes loyalty, and you never had that!"
Robert was stunned.
His eyes reddened. "Charlotte, I was wrong! Please pass a message to her for me."
Charlotte gently shook her head. It was too late.
Even without the baby, Lily couldn't go back.
Charlotte went home.
Bradley sent her a message, thanking her and not asking about the outcome.
But Charlotte knew Bradley really wanted to know.
Later, she found out that Bradley had a fierce fight with his family. The Lawson family's stance was that if they insisted on being together, Lily should abort the baby, and then marry into the Lawson family properly.
As for children, they could have more after marriage!
Charlotte leaned on the balcony, looking at the crescent moon. Yes, Bradley and Lily were young and could have more kids, but even if they had several more, it wouldn't be the same as the one in her belly now!
Could they still make it without the child?
Charlotte wasn't God; just thinking about Lily crying made her heart ache.
It was very late.
She called Frederick, but his phone was off. He didn't return the call until 1 AM, his voice a bit hoarse. "Charlotte, what's wrong? I'm on a business trip in Copenhagen. I'll be back tomorrow morning!"
He spoke as if their argument never happened.
Charlotte was silent for a long time before softly saying, "I want to talk about what happened today."
Frederick chuckled. "Have you agreed?"
"No!" Charlotte tried to stay calm. "But I think we can negotiate."
Frederick laughed happily.
He was standing in the hotel lobby, feeling great. "Then let's have dinner tomorrow night."
"Let's talk at your office!"
"Charlotte, do you think discussing our future is suitable for an office setting?"
Charlotte was annoyed.
She gritted her teeth. "Frederick, I want to talk about Lily!"
He didn't respond, just quietly held the phone, waiting for her to compromise.
In terms of patience, how could Charlotte be his match?
After a long while, she whispered, "Frederick, even if it involves us, I want to talk to you at the office. Otherwise, we won't talk."
Frederick finally conceded.
He said rather reservedly, "Fine! I have half an hour free at 10 AM tomorrow." Then he hung up.
Charlotte held her phone, feeling dazed for a long time.
The next day, Charlotte arrived at the office on time.
Everyone there recognized her; after all, Charlotte almost became 'Mrs. Hawkins'. Cherie wasn't there, so Lucy led her into the office. "Miss Russell, please! Mr. Hawkins is already waiting for you."
The door opened, and Frederick was sitting behind his desk, talking on the phone. Today, he was still wearing a three-piece suit, with broad shoulders, a slim waist, and long legs, exuding a touch of arrogance.
Lucy blinked.
Recently, Frederick seemed to pay extra attention to his appearance. Although he always looked good, he had never been this dazzling and radiant.
She admired him for a moment before going to make coffee.
Frederick's gaze was fixed on Charlotte. He said to the person on the other end of the phone, "You handle it! That's it. I have a client here."
He hung up the phone and gestured for Charlotte to sit down.
Charlotte sat on the single leather sofa by the floor-to-ceiling window. In front of her was a small table with several photo frames, mostly pictures of Frederick in court, probably from cases he was proud of.
Charlotte's gaze settled.
In the center was a photo frame with her picture, taken while she was playing the piano in his apartment.
She remembered that day; it was after their first time together. He had given her a piano worth millions, and she had accepted it with a shy heart, embracing a man's affection!
In the end, that affection turned out to be meaningless.
Charlotte turned her face away, not wanting to look anymore.
Frederick walked out from behind his desk and sat on the sofa opposite her. Following her gaze, he picked up that photo frame and softly said, "You didn't leave many photos. After much consideration, I think this one is the best! We'll take more photos in the future, and when we take our wedding photos, we'll put our picture here."
He smiled. "Then every female client will know I have a wife, and it will save a lot of trouble!"
Charlotte spoke calmly, "There won't be any wedding photos."
Frederick smiled, not getting angry. At that moment, Lucy brought in the coffee, easing the tension.
Frederick gave her a few instructions.
Lucy smiled and left, closing the door behind her.
Frederick picked up his coffee, drank half of it, and then put it down, gazing at Charlotte and softly speaking, "Charlotte, you know what I want. I have fame, power, and influence. Why should I make things easy for others? I won't consider it unless you come back to me."
After saying that, he focused on her.
They had been intimate many times, and just having her sit in front of him made him feel something. Moreover, the fact that she might become his again was a thrill for Frederick.
Charlotte understood his gaze.
He simply wanted her.
She lowered her eyes and smiled faintly, but her voice trembled. "Frederick, you just want to sleep with me, right? I can sleep with you. How many times do you want?"
Frederick didn't move, still gazing at her.
After a long while, he spoke, his voice hoarse, "Charlotte, is that how you see me? Do you think I just want to sleep with you?"
Charlotte's face turned pale.
Frederick's smile softened. He said, "What I want is to spend my life with you."
