Chapter 440 If You Miss Me, I'll Come to Get You
Even though Frederick was kinda jealous, he trusted Charlotte.
Plus, he had stuff to do that day anyway.
So, after thinking it over, he lazily patted her on the back, "Let Chloe tag along. She could use the break. Isn't she tight with Maurice?"
Charlotte wasn't having it.
She went to the bathroom to rinse her mouth, her voice muffled, "I dunno, they seem kinda distant. They've been on a few dates, but it's still awkward."
Frederick chuckled and strolled into the bathroom.
Charlotte bent over to wash her face.
As she leaned over, the men's shirt she was wearing slid up, showing off an enticing curve at her waistline against the sink.
Frederick couldn't resist grabbing her and pressing his face against her slender shoulder.
He whispered, "What do you mean by not awkward? Like us last night, stripping down."
Charlotte was both embarrassed and annoyed. "Frederick!"
Frederick laughed softly, his long, elegant fingers sliding gently down Charlotte's waistline.
Charlotte turned slightly.
She looked up at him; he was already fully dressed.
Charlotte couldn't help but think back to the early days when they lived together in this apartment. Back then, they were young and passionate, and she would always tie his tie before he went to the office.
Thinking back, those days were sweet.
Charlotte's expression softened, "Stop messing around. Let's grab some breakfast, and then you can take me to Broadway, okay?"
Frederick ruffled her hair and walked out.
His voice came from the bedroom door, still with a bit of flair, "I'll be waiting in the dining room."
Charlotte smiled faintly.
She changed into a light green wool dress and walked out.
Frederick pulled out a chair for her and couldn't help but look at her a bit longer.
She looked pretty good in that color.
Charlotte was strict with herself. Despite having three kids, she worked out for two hours every day. Besides herself, he benefited the most from her beauty .
After breakfast, he first took her to Broadway.
Charlotte got out of the car.
Frederick lightly honked the horn, rolled down the window, and looked at her with his blue eyes.
Charlotte was stunned for a few seconds. Then she walked to the car, blushing slightly, and kissed him on the lips.
Frederick said softly, "After you see Andrew, come to the office and have lunch with me."
Originally, Charlotte was supposed to go to the Hawkins Mansion.
But since Frederick had asked, she generally wouldn't refuse him.
She nodded.
Frederick looked at her for a few more seconds before rolling up the window and driving away.
Charlotte brought a gift and went to see Andrew.
Andrew's fever wasn't too serious; he was much better in the morning.
Nathan was taking care of him and was quite happy to see Charlotte, "Charlotte's here!"
Andrew was resting against the headboard.
Hearing this, he put on a coat and tried to get up.
Charlotte came in, gently patted his shoulder, and said softly, "Stay lying down."
Andrew wasn't all formal with her, so he just kinda lounged on the headboard to chat. Charlotte plopped down on a small sofa, peeling an apple while checking out the place.
She'd heard about this spot before.
But it was her first time here; it was pretty impressive.
Charlotte cut the apple into small pieces, and Andrew only nibbled on a few.
He grinned, "You seem like my kid."
Charlotte thought of Chloe and couldn't help but tease, "I'm only a year younger than Chloe. Does that mean Chloe could be your kid too?"
Andrew's gaze was kinda intense.
After a moment, he asked casually, "How are she and Maurice getting along? They've been to the house a couple of times; it should be going well, right?"
Charlotte didn't spill the beans.
She had promised Frederick she wouldn't take sides.
She just smiled slightly.
Andrew didn't push it, but Nathan chimed in, "If you don't tell the truth, Andrew will be worried, which isn't good for his condition."
Charlotte tucked the blanket around Andrew.
She smiled and said, "Andrew knows exactly what to do."
Nathan got the hint.
Andrew just smiled slightly.
Charlotte then got serious and said softly, "Taking care of your health is the top priority, or she'll worry again." There was a hint of reproach in her words.
Andrew's throat tightened a bit, and he said calmly, "It won't happen again."
Charlotte didn't push it further.
She hung around for two hours and made lunch for Andrew.
After she left, Andrew had lunch and felt much better.
He sat quietly on the living room sofa reading the newspaper, took a nap at noon, and then his phone rang.
It was an unfamiliar number.
Andrew thought for a moment and decided to answer.
"This is Andrew." There was silence on the other end, just the sound of light, slightly rapid breathing.
Andrew patiently waited for a moment.
He guessed who it was and asked gently, "Gavin, is that you?"
Sure enough, it was Gavin.
He was still mad, pouting, and it took him a while to speak, "You said you'd come back."
Andrew was silent for a moment, then softly apologized, "It's my fault! Are you at home now? How about I come to pick you up?"
Gavin didn't respond.
Andrew's tone got even gentler, "I'll bring Natalie and we'll go out together, okay? We'll get your favorite fried chicken meal."
Gavin bit his lip. "Natalie can't eat that."
"I'll bring her bottle."
Gavin didn't say anything, and his silence meant he agreed.
Andrew coaxed gently, "I'll be there soon."
"Andrew!" Gavin said, then hung up the phone.
Andrew looked at the phone, was slightly stunned, then smiled and said to Nathan, "As long as Gavin's happy! Nathan, I'm going to pick up Gavin and Natalie. Get the car ready."
Nathan was happy for him, "Look how happy you are."
Andrew arrived at the Hawkins Mansion.
Five or six kids ran out, all calling for Andrew.
Andrew brought them small cakes.
Lola took a small cake and, being very understanding, called out to the sulking Gavin in the distance.
"Gavin, Andrew's here!"
Gavin was squatting at the villa entrance, his hands on his cheeks, with one-year-old Natalie by his side.
The baby bottle was ready, tucked into Natalie's little pocket, looking super cute.
Andrew looked at his two kids, especially Gavin, and felt his eyes well up a bit.
He had never regretted it. This setup was best for Chloe and the kids; they wouldn't have to face death.
But Gavin had always been waiting for him. Andrew regretted it now.
Andrew walked over and patted Gavin's head.
Gavin was still sulking.
Natalie wobbled into her dad's arms. Andrew looked at her little dress, thinking it was really pretty, and the pocket for the baby bottle was just so cute.
He picked up little Natalie and held Gavin's hand.
Lola ran over again, "Chloe went out on a date. I'll tell Grandpa when he gets back that you took Gavin and Natalie out to play."
Andrew patted her little head. She really resembled Frederick!
Johnny, standing nearby, smiled slightly and dragged Lola away.
Lola said, "I wasn't finished talking!"
The two little ones sat side by side, and Andrew was right next to them.
Gavin kept sneaking glances at him, but when Andrew turned his head, he would look away.
Andrew smiled faintly.
At that moment, Natalie wet her diaper, but fortunately, she was wearing a cute disposable diaper.
Andrew picked Natalie up.
Holding her with one hand, he changed her diaper with the other.
Gavin watched intently, feeling somewhat envious.
Andrew said softly, "Help me seal this in a bag."
Gavin snapped out of it. He wrapped up Natalie's wet diaper and threw it in the trash can.
After changing the diaper, Andrew held her and gave her a kiss before reluctantly placing her back in the child seat.
It was Saturday, and there were quite a few people outside.
Fortunately, Gavin could take care of himself. Andrew ordered him a meal.
Natalie wanted to eat too.
Andrew made her some formula and let her drink it.
Later, he bought Natalie some mashed potatoes.
Gavin watched Andrew carefully feeding Natalie, treating her like a precious treasure, and he pouted.
Andrew looked up and saw him, smiling.
He asked about Gavin's homework. Gavin answered half-heartedly. They weren't as close as before, still somewhat distant.
The happiest one was Natalie.
Andrew wanted to spend more time with the kids, but around noon, something came up at the company.
He thought about taking the kids back.
Gavin heard the phone call and said slowly, "Natalie and I can go to the company with you. I can take care of her."
Andrew looked at him.
Gavin's face turned slightly red, "She seems to like you."
Andrew smiled. He agreed and took the two kids to the company.
When Andrew entered the company, the secretary saw the two beautiful children, one of whom was being held by Andrew. The little girl looked particularly delicate, and the secretary was stunned.
Andrew said calmly, "These are my kids."
The secretary didn't dare ask more and led him in, then started discussing business.
Gavin took care of Natalie.
When Andrew finished his work, he realized it was already six in the evening, and the two kids hadn't eaten, especially Natalie, who looked like she wanted milk.
Andrew felt guilty.
He walked over, squatted in front of the kids, and patted their heads. "I'll have someone bring food over!"
Gavin didn't say anything.
Andrew smiled faintly. He walked back to his desk and called his secretary, "Order two meals from a five-star hotel, quickly, and make them light."
Then he started making formula for Natalie.
Andrew loved feeding her. The soft little girl leaning in his arms gave him the illusion that he still had Chloe, that they hadn't been separated.
Gavin was still a kid. He had been angry for a long time, but now he couldn't help but lean over, sticking close to Andrew's arm to watch.
Andrew naturally noticed Gavin but didn't show it.
After a while, Gavin's little head rested on his shoulder.
At that point, Andrew's phone rang.
It was Chloe calling.
Andrew bent down, picked up the phone from the desk, speaking gently, "Gavin and Natalie are with me at the company! Are you downstairs?"
Gavin remained silent.
Andrew quietly hung up the phone.
After a while, he said, "Mom is downstairs at the company. I'll take you down."
Gavin stared at him, "You're not coming back with us?"
Andrew patted his head and said, "Silly boy!"
Gavin didn't ask any more.
He quickly tidied himself up, patted his sister's clothes, and then picked up his little backpack.
Andrew picked up Natalie.
In the elevator, Gavin suddenly asked, "When will you come to pick us up again?"
Andrew was slightly stunned.
Then he said softly, "If you miss me, just call me, and I'll come to get you."
Gavin didn't say anything.
The elevator quickly reached the first floor.
At night, the wind was a bit chilly, and Andrew was only wearing a shirt.
A black van was parked outside the building.
The car door opened.
Chloe got out, followed by Maurice, who was young and handsome, and seemed quite considerate towards Chloe. He looked fairly reliable.
Gavin said nothing and climbed into the back seat. He looked at Andrew through the car window.
Andrew smiled faintly and handed Natalie to Chloe, saying softly, "She just had some milk, so she might want to sleep. Be careful not to let her catch a cold when you get out."
After last night, Chloe didn't dare look at him.
She mumbled a response.
The car slowly drove away, but he still stood in the night.
At that moment, he really wanted a cigarette, but he couldn't.
After a long time, Andrew returned to the office. The secretary had just brought the meals and said happily, "Andrew, I specifically chose food that kids like!"
Andrew took one of the meals.
Then he said softly, "You can have this one."
The secretary was stunned.
Andrew smiled faintly, "Chloe picked them up."
