Chapter 504 Someone as Cold-Hearted as You Wouldn't Get It
Johnny strolled over to the door, and there stood Frederick.
"Frederick."
Frederick gave him a look, walked in slowly, bent down to grab the passport off the sofa, and glanced up, "Just got back a few days ago, and you're already heading out again?"
Johnny nodded, "Yep, that's the plan!"
Frederick flipped through the passport and casually asked, "Is this about Lola?"
Johnny couldn't bring himself to answer.
After a moment, he muttered, "Frederick, it's my issue."
"Of course." Frederick walked back, shut the door, and turned to Johnny, "You decided your life's path way too young. Why not take some time to explore more?"
After all, Johnny was a kid he had watched grow up.
Frederick lit a cigarette, took a few drags, and then spoke, "Back when I helped the Flores Family, I took you in mainly because of your rare blood type. But over the years, Johnny, be honest with yourself, did I not treat you like my own son, or did Charlotte not love you like her own child? She even wanted to love you more, but I stopped her because I thought all four kids should be treated equally. You shouldn't be special. Besides, you're the oldest; you should take care of them. Johnny, am I right?"
Johnny nodded. His heart ached even more.
Frederick looked at him angrily, "You went abroad, and don't want to take over Vertex Innovations Group, that's fine! I'm happy for your successful career! But all of this should have been based on the fact that you don't like Lola, and you never thought about being with her! But you clearly care about her, yet you want to escape this life. Johnny, I know Lola's personality best; she won't easily turn back! Things have come to this point, and you two are hurting each other. Do you think I can be happy?"
Johnny was very impressive outside. But in front of Frederick, he endured even being scolded. He even felt like crying a little.
Frederick picked up the passport again and weighed it in his hand, "You're young, you can run around all you want. Anyway, Charlotte and I can't control you anymore. Just wait until we both die, you come back for the funeral, and then you'll be free to go wherever you please!"
"Frederick!" Johnny called out. He felt a bit ashamed!
Frederick glared at him again, "You bastard!"
After saying that, he walked out, and Charlotte's voice came from the doorway, "What did Johnny say?"
Frederick, "If he dares to leave, he'll regret it!"
Johnny sat down, staring at the passport. After a bit, he made a call. "Amy, get the accountant to liquidate my assets in Kyro! Yep, I'm coming back to Syeattel!"
Downstairs, Gavin finished giving Lola a massage and then headed back to his room.
Molly was still asleep.
She was a designer, often pulling all-nighters, so mornings weren't her thing.
She was out cold, and Gavin slipped his hand under the blanket to give her a gentle pinch.
Molly woke up, her face flushed, and tried to push his hand away. Gavin took the chance to slip under the blanket and hold her close.
Molly rested her head on his shoulder, "Has Lola come back?"
"Yeah, she's back," Gavin sighed lightly, "Smelling like booze! They must've had a fight outside!"
As he spoke, he looked at Molly. He admired Lola's personality, but if she were his girlfriend, he wouldn't be able to handle it.
Gavin himself was a pretty strong-willed guy.
And Johnny had always been super accommodating to Lola since they were kids.
He got a bit distracted, and Molly tried to sneak back to sleep, but Gavin caught her and wanted to get frisky. Molly refused, her eyes particularly bright, "We're at your uncle's house! Let's do it later, okay?"
Gavin just wanted to tease her.
He lay down with her and talked about getting married. Molly was down for it, but she wanted to design her own wedding dress. Gavin agreed but didn't want her to overwork herself.
Molly didn't think it was hard. After all, one lifetime, just this one marriage!
Lola slept all morning and got up for lunch.
Gavin had already taken Molly away, and Lola was pretty annoyed about it. "It's rare for Molly to come over, and you didn't let her stay for a few days!"
Frederick sneered, "All you know is how to have fun! That celebrity Darren made the headlines again last night, and it was reported that he was with a man! Lola, look at you, your mom and I gave you such good looks, and you make yourself look neither male nor female all the time. Other people might think you're a guy!"
Lola didn't care, "It's dark; they can't see clearly!"
Frederick couldn't do anything about her. He sneered, "Wait until Kingsley and Sienna come back, and let them deal with you!"
Lola raised her hands in surrender, "No, I'm most afraid of those two, one is a hypocrite, and the other is clingy! Dad, let them have fun outside, don't worry about me, I'm doing great!"
As she finished speaking, a cup of coffee was handed to her.
Lola looked up and saw it was Johnny.
Lola smiled, "Wow, you actually serving people? Did you pick that up in Kyro?"
She had a sharp tongue, but Johnny didn't mind. His voice was gentle, "You didn't eat much last night and drank a lot. What kind of girl does that?"
At that moment, Frederick chimed in, "Charlotte and I aren't against you hanging out with Darren, but do you really care about him? Sneaking around like this, what does it mean?"
Johnny's hand under the table clenched tightly.
Lola took a small sip of coffee and forced a smile, "He's too young. I won't ruin him!"
Frederick pointed at her and asked Charlotte, "Who does she take after?"
Charlotte casually brushed her hair, "Everyone says she takes after you!"
Lola leaned over and rested her head on Frederick's arm, looking at him like she did when she was a kid, "Isn't it good to be like you?"
Frederick reached out and patted her head. He was proud of Lola, who was smart and excellent.
In the end, he couldn't do anything about her and warned, "Don't go too far. He seems quite innocent."
Lola winked at her dad and mouthed the words, "Very tender!"
Frederick felt a bit uncomfortable hearing that. He thought, although he occasionally sought excitement when he was young, he would immediately reflect whenever Charlotte got angry.
Now, with Johnny still around, Lola was so blatant. Could it be that she really had no interest in Johnny anymore?
Frederick couldn't be bothered to worry about their stuff anymore!
After lunch, Lola's head still hurt, so she stayed home to rest.
She lay on the sofa with her feet up on the back, playing a game on her phone.
Johnny came downstairs after changing his clothes.
He was heading out for a meeting and paused when he saw Lola like that, "Aren't you going to the office?"
Lola didn't even look at him. "Nope! I hope it closes down soon so I can stay home and sponge off my parents, just like Sienna. You have no idea how much I envy her!"
Johnny pressed his lips together, "It's okay if you don't work."
The Hawkins Family had no shortage of money.
Lola glanced at him, smiled, and said nothing.
Johnny had a meeting with a big real estate mogul. He wanted to get into the finance business back in the States, and first, he needed to buy a building to make a good impression when doing business.
He had his eye on one and arranged a dinner to discuss it further.
Johnny had just returned to Syeattel, and even though he had plenty of money, he didn't have deep roots. People didn't know he was from the Hawkins Family.
At the dinner, he drank quite a bit. But he was young and could hold his liquor well. After a trip to the restroom, he was as good as new.
As he walked out of the restroom, he paused.
Lola?
Wasn't she at home? What was she doing here?
Although she was still in professional attire, she looked more refined than usual, with a diamond necklace around her slender neck, looking quite nice.
Johnny couldn't help but stare at her for a long time.
Lola was leaning against the wall to steady herself. When she looked up and saw him, her gaze filled with a charm he'd never seen before.
Johnny didn't like her like this. He walked over, looking down at her, "Weren't you at home? Why are you out here socializing as a lawyer and getting drunk like this?"
Lola had drunk a lot, but not enough to be completely drunk, though she was more talkative than usual.
She waved her hand, "None of your business!"
Johnny's face turned cold, "Then whose business is it? That man from last night? Why isn't he here to protect you?"
Lola's beautiful eyes opened, and she smiled lightly, "Why would I need him to protect me? I'm the one protecting him!"
She straightened up and waved Johnny off, "You don't understand my relationship with Darren! Someone as cold-hearted as you wouldn't get it!"
Johnny's face turned ashen.
He actually wanted to have a good talk with Lola, at least to get along peacefully. After all, they were still family even if they weren't a couple. But Lola clearly didn't like him meddling in her affairs.
Just as Johnny was about to leave, someone came over and spoke warmly to Lola, "Ms. Hawkins, come on, let's have a few more drinks. Those two inside really want to meet you. They just said if they're happy, this $20 billion deal will go directly to the Vertex Innovations Group, no one else considered."
Lola, who had seemed drunk a moment ago, now spoke clearly and cheerfully. "Really? Then I must go and make them happy!" Lola said and left.
Johnny stood where he was, his heart aching again.
The Vertex Innovations Group was a gift from Frederick to Lola, originally intended for Johnny to support, but he stayed abroad and didn't come back. Frederick was getting old. So Lola not only became a lawyer but also took over the Vertex Innovations Group.
No wonder Frederick said she was always getting drunk, and she still hadn't found the right person.
