Chapter 158 He Is Too Powerful, and She Is Too Insignificant
After the kiss, their breathing was all over the place.
Charlotte leaned weakly against the bathroom wall. Without his support, she would've hit the floor. Her legs were still shaky.
Frederick wasn't much better off.
His handsome face was flushed as he breathed unevenly, like he hadn't done this in ages.
"Charlotte," he said, voice hoarse. "What did Ethan say?"
Charlotte, worried about disturbing the elders, bit her lip. "I don't know."
Frederick's gaze was intense and unreadable.
After a moment, his voice softened, and he leaned in to kiss her again. "You don't want to talk; you just want me to kiss you, right?"
Charlotte, both embarrassed and annoyed, lightly kicked him.
"Frederick, you just like messing with me! You said you wanted to start over, and this is how you do it? You jerk!"
Her eyes started to redden.
Frederick didn't stop but kissed her even more gently.
When it ended, he rested his forehead against hers, breathing lightly.
"Charlotte, I missed you so much! A guy who likes a girl will want to be close to her. If he doesn't, what kind of guy is he? Don't you agree?"
Charlotte glared at him, thinking he was being unreasonable.
Frederick chuckled softly.
He took her hand and placed it on his face.
Charlotte's palm touched his warm skin, feeling like it was burning. She quickly tried to pull it back.
Frederick didn't let her.
He saw all her panic.
Not only that, he gently pressed her against the wall, skillfully teasing her.
Charlotte had never experienced this before.
She bit her lip, her face turning as red as apples.
Frederick guided her hand over his face, his eyes full of charm. "Charlotte, I'll let you mess with me, okay?"
He was shameless!
Charlotte suddenly pushed him away.
She was panting, chest heaving, glaring at him.
Frederick had a half-smile.
Frederick was too powerful, and it was too easy for him to tease a woman, while Charlotte felt insignificant.
She was no match for him in the game of love.
But facing such a perfect man, Charlotte kept her composure. Her lips pressed into a firm line, and after a moment, she softly said, "Mr. Hawkins, I'll be waiting for your call."
She could see that he liked her body very much.
And that was all she could give him.
Charlotte hadn't forgotten how much she once longed for his affection, but after the passion faded, she realized that his slight fondness and pity for her were not worth much.
She didn't want to cry for him anymore.
Frederick saw her expression and guessed her thoughts.
Unexpectedly, he wasn't angry but said, "I have a business trip for two weeks."
Charlotte looked at him calmly.
He smiled. "Not to Novaria, but to Bostan. There's a legal issue with Nelson Group over there that I need to resolve."
Charlotte felt a bit embarrassed.
He knew exactly what she was thinking.
Frederick didn't mock her.
He would miss her during the two-week business trip. If it weren't for William being sick, he would take her to Bostan. During his free time, he could take her for some cold beer and barbecue.
He gently stroked her golden hair, feeling somewhat reluctant.
Charlotte wasn't without feelings.
When a man truly showed his emotions, it was hard to hide. Her defenses quietly crumbled a bit, but she didn't want to admit it.
How could Frederick not know?
He gently pulled her into his arms, doing nothing but holding her.
He said gently, "I'll take Lucy with me. Cherie will stay in here. If anything comes up with William, you can contact her, okay?"
Such thoughtful arrangements made Charlotte feel she couldn't repay him.
Frederick smiled. "The flight is in an hour and a half!"
Charlotte looked up, her gaze complex and hard to read.
Frederick didn't say anything more. He just looked at her, his eyes full of affection.
Finally, Charlotte said softly, "Safe travels."
"Just waiting for you to say that!" Frederick leaned in to kiss her.
Frederick left, and it got much quieter.
Charlotte didn't know how much Maria knew about what happened in the bathroom that day, but in the following days, Maria often mentioned Frederick, speaking highly of him.
Charlotte understood. Frederick's background, looks, and abilities were all outstanding.
Maria found it hard not to like him.
Later, Ethan came by twice more.
William didn't see him, and he sensibly didn't show up for the fourth time.
With William's condition stable, Charlotte returned to work at the music studio and made up for some missed classes.
Frederick didn't contact her.
After leaving those ambiguous words, it was as if he had disappeared from her world. But Charlotte still saw news about him.
The Nelson Group was Bostan's most prestigious company but constantly faced trouble due to some shady dealings in the past.
About two weeks later, Frederick was all over the headlines.
"Frederick Creates Another Miracle in the Legal World"
The photo showed the Nelson Group's chairman, Charles, with Frederick.
Frederick looked spirited.
He stood next to the fifty-something Charles, his presence not diminished at all. This was not only due to his personal abilities but also because of the Hawkins family behind him.
In the photo it was the Hawkins family and the Nelson family standing side by side.
Charlotte looked at the photo, not without feelings.
She was also surprised that at the grand celebration party hosted by the Nelson family, which many socialites and actresses attended, there were no photos of Frederick with any women.
Of course, Charlotte would never ask him, as it would show she cared too much.
In fact, there were indeed some incidents Charlotte didn't know. All the candid photos taken from certain angles were intercepted, including those of the bold actress Ashley Carter.
Frederick was single, worth billions.
Wherever he went, many women would be eager to please him, even offering themselves.
Halfway through the party, Frederick had a few drinks and found an opportunity to slip away, leaving Lucy to handle the socializing.
Charles valued him greatly.
He said to his son, Brian Nelson, "You see Frederick off! You can learn something from him on the way, instead of just playing with cars and doing useless things all day!"
Brian, dressed in an expensive suit, still looked unserious.
Charles apologized with a smile, "Brian's mother passed away early, and I was busy with business, neglecting his education! Frederick, I hope you don't mind."
Frederick naturally wouldn't mind Brian.
He glanced at Brian.
He was a young man dressed to the nines.
On the surface, he said kindly, "Brian has good looks. He will achieve great things in the future."
Charles was overjoyed.
That was his favorite thing to hear!
