Chapter 752 Johnny: Love May Be Letting Go and Supporting 3

Johnny had been away on a business trip for two days.

His voice over the phone was calm, "Something came up at work. I didn't wake you because you were asleep... Yeah, I'll be back in two days."

Lola softly replied, "Okay."

Their conversation was like that of any ordinary couple, with the husband informing his wife of his whereabouts. But they both knew this was probably their last tender moment together.

In a few days, they would part ways.

Or perhaps, they would each marry someone else and have nothing to do with each other.

Two days later, in the evening, Lola was reading in the study on the second floor when she heard the sound of a car in the driveway. She guessed it was Johnny returning.

She couldn't help but think of that night and the item thrown in the trash.

Lola stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window.

The autumn air was getting cooler, and the red maples were like fire. Johnny stepped out of the black car, walking into the sea of red leaves, gently stirring Lola's heart.

In just two days, Johnny had lost a lot of weight. His already lean face looked even more chiseled and deep. With his looks and wealth, Lola thought it wouldn't be hard for him to find a young, outstanding woman if he wanted to remarry.

She watched him quietly.

As if sensing her gaze, Johnny looked up slightly and met her eyes.

Their gazes locked.

After a moment, he turned to take his luggage from the trunk and slowly walked up the steps. Soon, his footsteps echoed in the stairwell. Lola turned from the window and softly said, "You're back?"

"Yeah, I'm back. It went pretty smoothly."

Johnny set down his luggage and walked slowly towards her. When he reached her, he raised his hand as if to touch her face but then lowered it for some reason.

He just smiled faintly, "I'll take a shower first. We'll have dinner soon."

Lola nodded, "Angelina and Austin are at my dad's."

Johnny was already at the door when he paused and said, "Let them stay there. In a few days, I'll take you and Stella back."

He had decided to let go but stubbornly waited for the full 60 days.

Like a ritual, a final farewell ritual between him and her.

After speaking, he looked at her, and she looked back. The atmosphere was a bit awkward. Finally, Johnny softly said, "I'm going to shower. Close the window; it's getting chilly."

Lola replied, "Okay."

Johnny looked at her again before turning to leave.

Back in the master bedroom, he first checked on Stella. After two days, he felt she had grown a bit chubbier. Johnny bent down and kissed her little head. When he looked up, his blue eyes were deep.

Last time, Lola had asked him if he wanted Stella, and he had said no.

In fact, how could he not want her? Having lost Lola, he longed for a child they shared to keep him company. Perhaps the long nights ahead would be easier with a child by his side.

But this was the child Lola had risked her life to bring into the world.

How could he claim her for himself?

Lola was ill and needed Stella's companionship more than he did. No matter how much he wanted her, he had to let go.

He watched her for a long time before going to the walk-in closet.

He took a set of clean clothes and went to the guest room next door to shower. After changing, he returned to find Lola in the bedroom. Johnny stood at the door and softly said, "I'll sleep next door tonight. I'll come over to take care of Stella during the night. Don't lock the door."

Lola replied, "Okay."

Before coming back, Johnny had tried to convince himself that Lola was no longer his. He should keep his distance, so he didn't touch her or share a bed with her, but he couldn't control his heart.

He took a step forward and said, "Don't you have anything to say to me?"

Lola looked at him deeply.

After a long while, she softly said, "Johnny, I hope you have a good life."

He felt a lump in his throat. He had so much to say, but he couldn't describe his feelings. In the end, he almost fled in embarrassment.

That night, as he said, he slept next door.

They were separated by just a wall, but neither of them slept. During the night, he came over twice to take care of Stella. He knew Lola was awake, and Lola knew he knew she was awake.

He looked at her.

But they didn't speak. For a couple about to part, even one more word in the deep night seemed too intimate.

On the 59th day,

In the evening, the sky was filled with colorful clouds, more vibrant than the red maples in the yard.

Johnny didn't go to the office. He spent the whole day packing things for Lola and Stella.

He packed several large boxes.

It was like preparing for a trip.

I knew Lola planned to travel. Leaving him, she might take Stella on a trip around the world. When they returned, Stella might already be walking.

The large boxes were neatly stacked on the first floor.

The household staff knew Lola and Stella were leaving and were all sad but didn't dare to say anything.

Lola stayed upstairs.

She quietly painted in the study, a scene of the window with maple leaves.

She spent the whole day finishing the painting and then covered it with a cloth.

When she slowly came downstairs, she saw the candlelit dinner set up in the dining room.

It was clear Johnny had prepared it.

He was dressed formally, in a black suit, sitting at the long obsidian dining table. In the center of the table were two vases with roses.

The household staff had all made themselves scarce.

Hearing footsteps, Johnny looked up and saw Lola standing on the stairs.

In a long dress, she was stunning enough to take his breath away.

Johnny slowly stood up and walked towards her, reaching out his hand for the last time, to hold hers.

He played music and danced with her one last time.

He held her gently and whispered in her ear, "Lola, I love you."

He loved her and still loved her.

So he couldn't face the 60th day. He chose to part on the 59th day, sending her back to her world and returning her happiness to her.

Night fell quietly, like their separation, catching them off guard.

They didn't drink the wine, and the carefully prepared meal was left unfinished. Lola leaned against his shoulder, looking at the packed luggage, and softly said, "Johnny, I'm leaving."

So he watched as the driver loaded the luggage, piece by piece, into the car.

So he watched as she held Stella and sat in the back seat.

So he watched as she gently closed the car door and left his sight.

Johnny's eyes grew moist. Suddenly, he walked over, opened the driver's door, and said, "I'll drive."

The driver hesitated for a moment and nodded, "Drive safely."

Johnny got in the car, his long fingers gently gripping the steering wheel. He said, "When you get abroad if it's convenient, send me postcards. You can also take some photos of Stella, so I know she's growing."

Lola said, "Okay."

They were both sad and didn't say much. Johnny started the car.

With Lola and Stella in the car, he drove carefully, more cautiously than he ever did for himself.

The city lights came on.

Those lights, those bright lights, kept retreating, left behind.

The car was silent. Johnny was about to ask Lola if she wanted some water when suddenly, a blinding light appeared ahead. A large vehicle from the opposite lane had lost control and was careening towards them.

The car was lit up like daylight.

In that moment, probably just a second, what was Johnny thinking?

He thought, fortunately!

Fortunately, he had personally driven Lola. Fortunately, he was the one driving... He thought he had never been sure how much he loved Lola, how much love remained in their relationship.

But at that moment, he knew.

He was willing to trade his life for her safety.
