Chapter 465 Mess up Her Face!
Chloe saw the look on her face and knew exactly what was up.
Charlotte had made her move!
Sure enough, when she got in the car and checked Facebook, there it was: #The Famous Star and the Boss's Past
Chloe clicked on it. The article was all vague and mysterious, and there was even a photo of Nina holding hands with Wesley, looking pretty cozy.
The assistant leaned over and said, "Well, looks like no one's gonna be watching you anymore. I heard Wesley's wife just landed in Syeattel with her four brothers, and they're all ready to beat Wesley to a pulp!"
Chloe just went, "Hmm."
The assistant added with a smirk, "Wesley made his money through his wife, you know."
Chloe gave a faint smile and shot a Facebook message to Charlotte: [Thanks, Charlotte!]
She put her phone away and told the driver to get going.
Just then, Nina came running out, stumbling. She knocked on the car door.
Chloe rolled down the window. "What's up?"
Nina wasn't dumb. She knew Chloe wasn't the mastermind, but she was definitely in on it. So she pleaded, "Miss Hawkins, please, I'm begging you to let me go!"
Chloe looked at her quietly. After a long pause, she smiled faintly, "Too late!"
Chloe wasn't a tyrant.
She and Andrew weren't married.
Nina liked Andrew and went after him, which was her choice, but she hurt others in the process. Her current mess was all on her.
The black car slowly drove away.
Nina stood there, lost.
Just then, her phone rang. It was Wesley, and he was furious, "Nina, I haven't treated you badly. I pissed off Mr. Devereux to get you a role, and I'm still paying for it. Now you've dragged the Hawkins Family into this mess. Let me tell you, my wife is no joke. If you end up in a hospital bed, don't blame me for not warning you! Keep your mouth shut!"
Nina's eyes filled with tears of shame and anger.
She hung up angrily, and just as she was about to leave, her phone got slapped to the ground.
A tall, heavily made-up woman appeared. "You're Nina, right? The one messing with our Wesley?"
Nina's lips moved slightly. Before she could deny it, the woman got it. "Beat her! Mess up her face! Who knows whose husband she'll go after next with that face! Today, I'm doing a public service!"
At her command, a few guys stepped forward, grabbed Nina's hair, and slapped her a dozen times. Her delicate arms were bruised and purple.
After the beating, the woman threw down $2,000, "Go see a doctor. Stop selling yourself! As for the stuff Wesley gave you, I don't have time to deal with that. Consider it payment for a prostitute! But let me tell you, if I find out you're messing with Wesley again, I'll kill you!"
The $2,000 scattered on the ground.
Nina stood there, being pointed at and whispered about. She finally realized who not to mess with.
She found out it was Charlotte's doing!
She should have gone to apologize to Charlotte and beg for forgiveness, but she was still stubborn.
She was just chasing her own happiness, trying to climb higher. Why should she be treated like this?
Leaving the hospital, she bit her lip.
If she went to Charlotte, maybe Charlotte would let her go, but there would definitely be conditions.
Nina dismissed the idea.
She laid low to recover, and a week later, her injuries were mostly healed, and the rumors had died down. But she knew she was already a joke in the industry.
Nina blamed Chloe for all this and still hadn't given up on Andrew. After recovering, she went to Andrew's company. The receptionist gave her a complicated look and said straight up, "Andrew probably won't see you!"
Nina wanted to argue, but the receptionist cut her off, "Miss Watson, Andrew has a family!"
Nina had never been treated like this by a receptionist and was about to lose her cool when she saw someone walk out of the elevator.
She recognized him as Nathan, someone close to Andrew.
Nina approached him, "Nathan, I need to see Andrew. I'm sure he misunderstood me before!"
Nathan was always polite, but he didn't think much of Nina.
He looked at her and said, "If you keep bothering him, Andrew's gonna get annoyed! Others might not know his temper, but I do. When he gets mad, it's not pretty!"
Nina bit her lip lightly, "I didn't mean to!"
Nathan thought she was hopeless.
Just then, a car pulled up at the entrance, and a servant-like person approached.
They handed Nathan a lunchbox.
Nathan took it and headed straight upstairs.
Nina figured it was food for Andrew, so she quickly followed outside. "Wait a minute!"
The person delivering the food was a servant from Andrew's villa.
Andrew was in poor health and couldn't eat outside food, so Adeline would make different dishes for him every day and have the servant deliver them.
The servant was tight-lipped, but Nina pulled out $5,000 from her wallet.
Nina promised her $5,000 every month. The servant was tempted!
After all, it was just delivering food to Andrew, nothing more!
If she didn't say anything, no one would know!
Nathan went upstairs and opened the office door.
Andrew was still looking at documents.
Sunlight streamed through the blinds, casting a refined and elegant light on him.
Nathan placed the lunchbox on the table and smiled, "These dishes must have kept Adeline busy since morning. She really cares about you."
Andrew's eyes were still on the documents.
He said lightly, "The servant can do it. She just can't stay idle!"
Nathan smiled.
Andrew remembered something, "How's the Copenhegan branch? I recall there was a project with some issues. Is it resolved?"
Nathan quickly replied, "The local official was really difficult to deal with. It took a lot of effort and connections to sort it out."
"Well done!" Andrew signed his name and closed the document.
He walked over to eat. Each dish Adeline made was light, but they were also very tasty.
As Andrew ate, his heart softened.
He thought that once the Syeattel company stabilized, he would gradually move back to Copenhegan, so he could take Chloe and the kids with him.
Nathan also ate his portion.
After a while, he remembered the person he had seen earlier and said, "Nina came by! It looked like she wanted to apologize, but I sent her away!"
Andrew had almost forgotten about her.
Mentioning her gave him a bit of a headache, "I wanted to kick her far away, but Chloe wouldn't let me. She said there are plenty of girls like her, and if we kicked them all out, we'd never be done!"
Nathan made a playful comment, "She's quite magnanimous now!"
Andrew glanced at him, "Magnanimous? More like I'm not as attractive as I used to be! She would never work together with Grace if it she were as jealous as before."
Nathan chuckled, "No problem there! She and Grace are still friends now!"
Andrew didn't like hearing that. He put down his fork and muttered, "Grace and I haven't been in touch for a long time."
Nathan served him some food, "Of course, I know. You're practically a monk now."
Andrew reluctantly accepted that.
The next day at noon, they were still eating together, and Nathan opened the lunchbox.
He smiled and said, "Adeline finally relented today!"
Andrew looked at the food; it was a bit different from usual. There was more meat.
He took a bite and then frowned, "This wasn't made by Adeline today. She probably got tired and had the servant do it. The meat is a bit tough, and it's not cooked properly."
Nathan laughed, "Your tongue is really something else. Even renowned food critics might not match you."
When two men are together, they speak freely.
He casually joked, "That's right! Not just with food, but also with women. Pleasing a young girl like Chloe isn't easy!"
He spoke casually, not noticing the people standing at the door.
Chloe and his female secretary.
Chloe was extremely embarrassed and angry.
The female secretary's face was also flushed. What Andrew said was hard not to misinterpret!
The female secretary ran off first. Chloe also wanted to leave, but Andrew and Nathan saw her.
Nathan was the first to react, immediately standing up and saying, "Yeah. Andrew sure has a silver tongue and knows how to sweet-talk. Always full of sweet words."
Hearing Andrew talk about their private matters with someone else made her especially angry and embarrassed.
Chloe turned and walked away.
Andrew put down his fork and immediately chased after her.
He was always mature and composed, but now he was in a panic. His secretaries watched as Andrew quickly chased after her, frantically pressing the elevator button.
Chloe stood in the elevator, her face still hot.
She kept replaying Andrew's expression when he talked about their private matters. He was so casual, as if he were discussing everyday life.
Tears welled up in her eyes; she was both embarrassed and furious.
Once in the car, she started it without thinking.
She didn't want to go home and see Andrew.
In the end, she drove to the house on Broadway, which was usually unoccupied.
Chloe went upstairs without even changing clothes and curled up on the bed to sleep.
She had just returned from out of town and had planned to go with Andrew to pick up Gavin, but as soon as she walked in, she heard those outrageous words.
She called the driver to pick up Gavin.
She was tired from the past few days and ended up falling asleep curled up on the bed.
Andrew chased after her but couldn't catch up.
He called her, but her phone was off. He called the apartment and the Hawkins Mansion, but she hadn't gone back.
Andrew had his secretary check all the hotels in Syeattel, but there was no record of Chloe checking in.
Andrew sat quietly in his car for a while, then started it and drove to Broadway.
By the time he arrived, it was already 2 PM.
He pushed open the door; it was very quiet inside, but there was a red Hermès bag on the sofa.
Only then did Andrew relax.
He took off his coat, changed his shoes, and walked to the bedroom.
He gently turned the doorknob and saw Chloe curled up on the bed, holding a stuffed animal.
She wasn't covered with a blanket.
Andrew sat down by the bed and covered her with a blanket. Chloe didn't wake up, just turned over lightly.
He hadn't seen her for a few days. He decided to take off his shoes and socks and got into bed, gently pulling her into his arms.
When he woke up, it was dusk.
Andrew opened his eyes and noticed that Chloe felt very hot. He was startled and touched her forehead.
Chloe's forehead was a bit warm.
He felt both heartache and guilt. If it weren't for his careless words, she wouldn't have run here and slept without a blanket!
Andrew got up to take her temperature; she had a slight fever. Then he called a private doctor.
The doctor came, gave her a fever-reducing injection, and said, "She looks quite tired. Let her sleep more!"
Andrew nodded and saw him out.
The doctor looked back and smiled, "This must be Chloe. She's very pretty!"
Andrew told him to get lost!
The doctor, thick-skinned, added, "This place is really nice! Andrew, I didn't know you had such good taste."
In the end, he was kicked out.
Andrew went back and sat by the bed, quietly watching Chloe.
He felt he needed to do something, so he went to the kitchen to make some porridge and a few light dishes suitable for someone with a fever.
After finishing, he sat by the bed again, waiting for her to wake up.
Chloe woke up around midnight. She felt uncomfortable all over, her back covered in cold sweat, sticking to her skin.
"Awake?" Andrew looked at her and said softly.
Chloe felt weak and rested her head on the pillow, looking at his face.
They were silent.
She couldn't forget his frivolous words, and he couldn't pretend he hadn't said them. After a long time, Chloe spoke first, "I want to take a shower."
Andrew frowned lightly, "You have a fever; it's better not to shower. I'll get a towel to wipe you down."
Chloe refused. She struggled to get up and went to the closet to find some pajamas.
When she showered, she didn't lock the bathroom door.
Andrew listened to the sound of running water from the bedroom. Only after she finished did he go in. Chloe was about to dry herself.
He took the towel from her hand and gently helped her dry off. "Are you mad?"
Chloe didn't say anything. She wanted another towel, but Andrew stopped her.
He spread out a dry bath towel, wrapped it around her from behind, and held her in his arms.
His lips touched the back of her ear, and he whispered, "I won't talk like that again. Don't be mad, okay?"
Chloe turned her head to look at him. She changed the subject, "I'm hungry."
Andrew had no choice but to let her change clothes and eat.
During the meal, they were both very quiet.
Chloe suddenly spoke, "Andrew, I really don't like you talking like that! Nathan may be the closest person to you, but our private matters shouldn't be joked about."
It was just as well if she didn't hear; if she had, facing Nathan again would have been really unsettling.
