Chapter 394 He Always Loved Charlotte
Oliver's wife was MIA, so he slid in next to Charlotte, with the kiddos across from them.
Lola had seen this dude before.
While munching on her food, she kept eyeballing this handsome guy, thinking, 'He's into Mom!'
Oliver was into Lola too.
He ruffled Johnny's hair and said to Charlotte, "This kid's a looker!"
Charlotte glanced at Johnny and smiled softly. "Yeah! Frederick always said he looked just like him when he was a kid."
Johnny's cheeks turned red. And he felt a weird kind of happiness.
Oliver leaned in and whispered, "What's the deal with Landon and Tina? Did you set them up? Tina's dead set on marrying into the Carter family."
Everyone knew Tina was trouble.
He figured it was Charlotte's doing.
Charlotte kept her head down, eating, and only after finishing a bite of steak did she say, "I just had someone spill the beans about Landon's background to Tina."
Oliver chuckled.
Made sense; Landon must've ticked Charlotte off.
When he smiled, Charlotte noticed a faint wrinkle at the corner of his eye.
She couldn't help but feel a bit nostalgic about how time flies.
"Where's your wife? Why didn't she tag along?"
Oliver grinned. "She jetted off abroad to chill! She'll be back next week."
Charlotte nodded, not wanting to dive into it.
Luckily, Oliver only hung around for a bit before heading back to his seat. As soon as he sat down, Landon shot him a weird look.
With the kids and Charlotte being pregnant, she bounced pretty early.
When passing by those folks, she just gave a slight nod.
Oliver jumped up. "Let me walk you out."
She went with it; causing a scene in a fancy restaurant would be a bad look.
After she left, Tina, holding a wine glass, said sadly, "Sophie, who would've thought your brother still has a thing for Charlotte after all these years? He really does hold onto the past!"
Sophie, being straightforward, said, "That's 'cause Charlotte's gorgeous."
Tina was ticked off.
But she quickly got her act together. She didn't want to be mad at Charlotte now; her main goal was to keep Landon in check.
She gently stroked his face and said seductively, "Come over to my place tonight."
Landon wasn't having it.
He grabbed his coat and stood up. "Nah, I got plans!"
Tina was fuming!
Landon put on his coat and walked out, spotting Oliver and Charlotte chatting by the car. Charlotte's face was soft, like she was with an old friend, but also kinda different.
Landon felt pretty annoyed. She was sweet to Oliver but cold to him!
Landon pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and opened the car door. With a bang, he slammed it shut.
Oliver only said a few words with Charlotte.
He had business dealings with Frederick, but he was keeping his distance from Charlotte. The business world was a tight-knit circle, so the two families couldn't avoid interactions.
Landon's move made Oliver chuckle.
On that chilly night, he turned his head to watch the car drive off and said softly, "He reminds me of my younger self! Charlotte, you still got it."
Charlotte slipped her hand into her pocket and gave a faint smile. "Cut it out, Oliver! I'll chat with Frederick about this later."
Oliver nodded. He opened the car door for Charlotte but then hesitated.
Standing there, he said softly, "Back then, I went all out to win you over, and it caused you a lot of grief. I'm sorry, Charlotte."
Charlotte felt a pang of sadness.
What was wrong with liking someone?
But now they each had their own families, and such words were out of place. She just smiled at him. "It's all water under the bridge!"
Then, she got into the car!
The black limo drove away, and Oliver stood there for a long time.
After all these years, everyone thought he had moved on, but only he knew that truly liking someone made it hard to let go. His wife was sweet and beautiful, but feelings weren't dictated by those things.
However, saying he liked her was no longer appropriate.
Charlotte sat in the car. She could see Oliver's figure getting smaller and smaller in the rearview mirror.
She felt a bit down.
Lola leaned against her and said innocently, "Dad is more handsome than Oliver."
Charlotte couldn't help but laugh.
She kissed Lola's little cheek and said gently, "I don't like anyone else!"
She always loved Frederick.
Kids were easy to please, and Lola lit up with happiness.
She suddenly blushed and whispered to Johnny, "You can't like anyone else in the future either!"
Johnny didn't dare to speak.
Even kindergarten kids weren't completely clueless about love stuff.
Charlotte watched, feeling much more relaxed. She didn't correct them too much, but she would have to discuss with Frederick later that Lola shouldn't bring Johnny to her room to sleep anymore.
As she was thinking, her phone buzzed.
It was a text from Landon.
His tone was pretty rude: [I didn't expect that you had a thing with Oliver. You are really something, Ms. Russell!]
Charlotte found him annoying.
She deleted the message and blocked him.
She wasn't scared of ticking Landon off; she had something Landon wanted, so she wasn't worried he wouldn't play ball!
Meanwhile, Landon sat in his car.
After waiting a long time without a reply from Charlotte, he reluctantly called her.
Well, she had blocked him!
Landon always had a way with him; he called Charlotte's villa, and a servant answered.
Frederick happened to be back too.
Dana held the phone, looking troubled. "Frederick, it's Landon looking for Charlotte."
Frederick slowly unbuttoned his coat and walked over to answer it. Landon didn't expect him to be home and was at a loss for words. Frederick simply said, "Landon, Charlotte is my wife!"
Landon was silent for a moment, then said, "But I like her."
