Chapter 23: Ethan, How Are You Going to Make It Up

Ethan let out a sarcastic laugh.

His heart sank as he remembered Frederick's odd behavior toward Charlotte.

Early in the morning, Charlotte woke up.

Next to her pillow was a small, elegant velvet box.

Still groggy, Charlotte opened it.

Inside was a dazzling diamond ring, a classic piece from a famous brand. The diamond was enormous.

Charlotte had a pretty good idea who sent it.

She found it ironic.

Ethan had pushed her to the edge, almost getting her assaulted, and now he had the nerve to send her a diamond ring!

Just as she was about to ask the nurse to return it, the door opened.

Ethan walked in, seeing Charlotte looking at the ring. For once, his voice was gentle. "You're awake? Do you like it?"

Charlotte closed the box and smiled faintly. "Sure. What woman doesn't like a diamond ring? But Ethan, I don't want anything from you."

She thought she'd feel disgusted and angry seeing him again, but to her surprise, she felt calm, as if he were a stranger.

Maybe it was because she no longer loved him after all the despair.

Ethan lowered his eyes and said softly, "Charlotte, this is my way of making it up to you, nothing more."

Charlotte tilted her head back, holding back tears. "Making it up? Ethan, how do you plan to make up for what you owe me? If you really feel sorry, let my dad go! I'll take my parents and leave Syeattel immediately, and you won't have to worry about us ever again. I won't be an obstacle for you! Ethan, please, alright?"

Ethan couldn't do it.

He stood straight, hands in his pockets. "We'll talk when you've thought it through."

Charlotte couldn't hold back anymore. She threw the ring at him with all her might.

"Get out, Ethan!"

The hard box grazed Ethan's forehead, leaving a thin scratch.

Ethan didn't care.
He bent down, picked up the box, and put it in his pocket. One day, he would personally put that ring on Charlotte's finger and make her willingly be his woman.

He said, "Charlotte, this time was an accident!"

Charlotte closed her eyes and told him to get out.

Ethan wanted to say more, but the door opened again.

Frederick walked in.

Today, he was dressed impeccably in a classic black and white suit, with a crisp white shirt that made his handsome face even more striking.

The atmosphere in the room was tense, but Frederick seemed oblivious.

He nodded slightly at Ethan and walked to Charlotte's bedside, pulling out a bill from his pocket.

"Ms. Russell, your medical bill is $22,600. Can you transfer it to me via Facebook?"

Charlotte was still emotional when Frederick took her phone.

He leaned against her bed, adding her on Facebook.

Frederick teased, "Ms. Russell, you're really broke. You only have $18,000?"

Charlotte felt embarrassed.

Frederick said seriously, "You still owe $4,600. How about you play a round of golf with me someday, and we'll call it even?"

Charlotte tilted her head slightly.

Her golden hair cascaded down to her waist, soft and smooth, making her look gentle and delicate.

She placed her hand on Frederick's arm and said softly, "I can go with you now."

Frederick glanced at her, then at Ethan, and smiled meaningfully. "Ethan, could you step out? It's not appropriate for you to stay here now."

Ethan clenched the velvet box so tightly that his knuckles turned white, forcing a smile. "I won't disturb you then," he said.

He opened the door and left without looking back.

As the door closed, Charlotte felt a wave of exhaustion wash over her. Leaning against the headboard, she whispered, "Mr. Hawkins, thank you."

Frederick put down her phone.

He asked playfully, "Weren't you going to accompany me?"
