Chapter 424 The Best I Can Do for Her Is to Let Go (Part 2)

Chloe dragged herself back to the apartment.

She'd put work on pause and gave the housekeepers some time off.

She plopped down in the living room, hugging her knees, staring into space, tears rolling down her cheeks. She wiped them away, one by one.

Then, the doorbell rang.

She tensed up, took a moment, wiped her tears, and shuffled to the door.

It was Nathan, and he had some lawyer-looking dude with him, briefcase and all.

Chloe blinked, a bit thrown off.

Then it clicked; they were here with the papers.

She opened the door.

Nathan glanced up and blurted, "Why are your eyes all red? Been crying? If Mr. Devereux knew..."

"He wouldn't give a damn! Once I sign, we're strangers."

Nathan hesitated.

He was in a tough spot; he really wanted to spill about Andrew's illness, hoping Chloe might soften up. They had history, after all.

But he knew Andrew's temper.

If Andrew said to keep quiet, then quiet it was.

Chloe let them in.

Nathan and the lawyer sat down. He looked around. "Nice place! Gavin's at school, right?"

Chloe brought them some ice water.

Nathan wasn't feeling it; Andrew was waiting for him!

After a lot of back and forth in his head, he still didn't want to give up and cautiously asked, "Chloe, do you think there's any chance you and Andrew could patch things up? It's been years; it hasn't been easy!"

Chloe looked down.

After a bit, she softly said, "Where's the agreement?"

Nathan felt like crying.

What a mess! One was waiting for surgery in the hospital, and the other clearly couldn't let go here.

If even a pair so deeply in love must separate, what then is the reality of true love on this earth?

But no matter how bitter, he still told the guy next to him, "Howard, read it out."

Feeling the tension, Howard also felt the stress.

He immediately picked up the document and read it out.

Chloe listened in a daze; she only caught that Andrew had given her the house on Broadway.

What was that supposed to mean?

Nathan said, "Mr. Devereux messed up with Celeste! He deserves all your anger! But Chloe, for the sake of the past, even if you can't be husband and wife, don't be enemies because..."

He couldn't go on, nor could he say more.

Chloe didn't get his drift.

She just held the document and carefully read it. Andrew had given a lot.

She didn't take it all.

She didn't take the house on Broadway.

She didn't ask for the Devereux Mansion for Gavin either. She thought maybe he would get married and have kids in the future; Gavin might not be the only heir to the Devereux Mansion.

After signing, she quietly looked at it, her eyes stinging a bit.

It was finally over!

She and Andrew were completely over!

Nathan got it; he knew if Chloe knew about Andrew's illness, she wouldn't sign this. But it wouldn't be fair to her.

Andrew was right; why delay her any longer?

Nathan gently patted her shoulder and softly said, "He asked you not to cry."

How could she not cry?

After sending them off, Chloe sat in the living room, silently crying.

She sat from dawn until dusk, only snapping out of it when her hunger became unbearable. She mechanically walked to the kitchen, opened the cabinet, and tossed all her favorite instant noodles.

Then she called the housekeeper.

She had no appetite, but the baby inside her needed to eat!

Nathan rushed back to the hospital.

He handed the agreement to Andrew. Andrew leaned against the headboard, staring at the name "Chloe" for a long time, then a bitter smile appeared on his lips.

He said, "She has a good family background and is beautiful. Early thirties is not too late."

Nathan felt like bawling his eyes out.

Amanda grabbed a towel to wipe Andrew's sweat, her voice all choked up. "Adeline's gonna be back soon. You gotta pull through, or she'll be crushed."

Andrew grinned. "For sure!"

Nathan asked again, "Should we let Charlotte and Frederick know?"

Andrew shook his head.

Charlotte was still with the Hawkins family; he didn't want to complicate things for her. Besides, the ones he really wanted to see were Chloe and Gavin, but that wasn't happening.

All he had was the divorce agreement.

Andrew closed his eyes a bit and told the doc, "Let's do this. Prep for surgery."

Andrew's surgery dragged on for 8 hours, taking out half his stomach.

It went okay. But he still needed to recover.

When he woke up, Adeline was sitting by the bed, looking wrecked.

Surprisingly, Charlotte was there too. Frederick was at the door.

Andrew was super weak, but he still turned his head and gently touched Adeline's hand. Adeline was both pissed and heartbroken; she wiped her eyes and softly said, "For something this big, you should've told Chloe."

If they couldn't see each other one last time, how regretful would that be?

Andrew weakly smiled and softly said, "Isn't she mad at me? I don't want her worrying anymore!"

Adeline hesitated and asked, "Did you really sign?"

Andrew didn't say a word, just looked at Adeline.

Adeline's aged hand held his, unable to blame him anymore.

This illness might not fully recover in the future.

She was also a woman and didn't want Chloe to suffer anymore. After all, she was still young and had no reason to forgive Andrew just because he was sick.

After the mother and son finished talking, Andrew turned to look at Charlotte.

Charlotte was heartbroken to learn about their divorce but couldn't say much.

She told Andrew to rest well.

Andrew looked at the ceiling and softly said, "If there's someone suitable, introduce them to her. Frederick knows a lot of people; let her meet more."

Charlotte was super sad. "Don't say that."

Andrew smiled weakly.

Charlotte left the hospital, feeling down.

She got into the car and leaned back in the seat, silently crying.

Frederick felt really bad for her.

He held her shoulder and carefully wiped her tears with a tissue. "Don't cry! This just shows they weren't right for each other! It's better to split now."

Charlotte looked at his handsome face and said, "It's not better at all. Chloe must be crying."

Frederick leaned in and kissed Charlotte.

He hoarsely whispered, "Since you got pregnant, you've become more emotional."

He gently touched her belly. "Once the baby is born, it should get better!"

Charlotte pushed his hand away and softly said, "Frederick, I'm being serious!"

Frederick was about to tease her when his phone rang in his pocket. He answered, and it was Patrick's voice.

"Frederick, where are you? Come home."

Frederick nodded. He hung up and told Charlotte, "Dad wants us to go back; sounds important."

Charlotte guessed, "It must be about Andrew and Chloe's divorce. Frederick, Andrew didn't want his illness mentioned, so when we get there..."

Frederick snorted. "I won't say a word!"

Charlotte turned her head away.

Frederick gently pinched her face and coaxed, "Are you mad? I'll make it up to you tonight."

He said "make it up," but it was clearly for his enjoyment.

Charlotte flatly refused, "I'm not in the mood!"

Frederick smiled, sat up straight, and started the car.

Half an hour later, the black Maybach stopped in the Hawkins Mansion parking lot.

Late at night, Gavin ran over, followed by Chloe.

Frederick slammed the car door and frowned.

Why did Chloe come back too?
