Chapter 845 Just Like That, She Walked Back into Grant's World 3
Late at night, just two simple plates of pasta.
Yet, it felt so warm.
There were no servants left in the house. Nancy was about to wash the dishes when Grant stopped her, saying, "I'll do it! You go rest."
Nancy blinked softly.
After a moment, she said, "I'm not that fragile. I can handle some housework too."
But Grant wouldn't let her.
He spoke to her gently, "Nancy, I didn't keep you by my side to suffer with me. At least when I'm home, you don't need to do these chores."
Nancy didn't argue further.
Grant placed the dishes in the sink, rolling up his sleeves.
It had been years since he last did any housework. Ever since his business took off, he hadn't needed to lift a finger.
But now, he felt calm.
This seemingly bleak night reminded him of the hardships he and his mother, Alvina, had endured when he was young.
After his mother passed away, he hadn't had a proper home.
But now, Nancy made him feel warm.
He never knew nights could be so peaceful.
Outside, the rain continued to fall steadily, the garden plants glistening with water droplets under the lights.
Grant felt someone hug him from behind.
He turned slightly to see Nancy resting her face on his shoulder. Her voice was soft, "Grant, I think it's not so bad that you went bankrupt."
His heart softened.
After a long pause, he spoke quietly, "We haven't really suffered yet. You might not think the same later."
Nancy tightened her embrace, saying she had some savings.
But she knew Grant wouldn't want to use her family's money. He would support her and their child...
And so, one washed dishes while the other spoke softly behind him.
It took them a good half hour to wash a few dishes.
That night, they slept deeply.
At dawn, Grant made breakfast for Nancy.
He then went to handle company matters.
When Nancy woke up, Grant was no longer in bed. The pillow beside her was already cold, but the warmth of his body lingered in the blanket.
They had slept together last night, talking for a long time.
Later, she saw him with his eyes closed, still responding to her.
Nancy stopped talking then, resting her head on his shoulder, listening to the rain, feeling an unusual peace.
She got up, washed, tidied the bedroom, and went downstairs.
Unexpectedly, his parents had come over!
Seeing Nancy, their expressions were complicated, especially Royce, whose gaze was fixed on her belly, as if looking at a thorn in his side.
Nancy stood halfway down the stairs, not coming down.
Her mother, Verity Walsh, spoke first, her tone still gentle, "Nancy, your father and I came to ask about your plans."
"Plans?"
Nancy asked softly, "What do you and Dad think my plans should be?"
Verity hesitated.
She was soft-spoken, and at times like this, it was up to Royce to make decisions.
Sure enough, under her gaze, Royce spoke forcefully, "I don't know what Grant is thinking. If he had just done some PR and at least taken his six-month pregnant wife out, most of the bad press would have fallen on that other woman!"
"But he didn't. He stupidly took it all on himself, watching the company go bankrupt."
"Maybe he thinks it's easy to make a comeback, or maybe he thinks I'll help him, but he's wrong. The Walsh family won't coddle him..."
"Nancy, I told you on the phone yesterday, get rid of the baby and come home. With your qualities, you won't have trouble finding someone else."
Nancy listened quietly.
After a while, she asked Verity, "Mom, do you think the same?"
Verity hesitated for a long time before advising, "Your father is right! Nancy, Grant is going to be poor for the rest of his life. Don't make a rash decision."
Nancy lowered her eyes and slowly walked down the stairs.
She didn't greet her parents on the couch, instead heading straight to the dining table to eat.
Breakfast was made by Grant, and it was just to her taste.
She drank a bowl of milk and ate a waffle... She never knew Grant was such a good cook.
Royce stared at her with a venomous look.
Seeing Nancy ignore him, he sneered, "A few waffles bought you over? Nancy, where's your brain? He's an unfaithful man who wronged you, and you still want to protect him?"
Nancy looked up, staring at Royce for a long time.
She spoke calmly, "Dad, haven't you ever wronged Mom? And when Grant was doing well, didn't you ask for his help?"
Her tone grew even calmer, "For those things you couldn't handle yourself, didn't you turn to him?"
Royce was stunned.
He hadn't expected Nancy to know about his affair and the illegitimate son he had.
He had kept it tightly under wraps.
Feeling guilty, he glanced at Verity.
Her family was prestigious, and even though he controlled Verity mentally, he couldn't afford to let such things come to light.
Royce was at a loss for words.
Verity looked at Royce suspiciously, asking after a long pause, "Royce, is there something you're hiding from me?"
Royce quickly put on a righteous facade. "How could that be?"
He was a smooth talker, and over the years, Verity had been so convinced by him that a few words were enough to dispel her doubts.
But Royce didn't dare provoke Nancy further, knowing she held leverage over him.
Still, he was displeased.
As they left, he spoke harshly, "Nancy, if you insist on staying with Grant, don't expect to take a penny of the Walsh family fortune!"
Nancy's face turned pale.
She had anticipated this, but hearing it still hurt.
She knew he intended to leave the fortune to his illegitimate son.
Verity looked troubled, feeling a bit of sympathy for Nancy.
Royce glared at her, "It's your fault for spoiling her! Spoiling her so much that she can't see reason. Grant is like this, and she still wants to have his child."
Verity nodded meekly, not daring to challenge Royce.
Nancy watched coldly.
She didn't regret her decision. Maybe Grant wouldn't be her perfect partner in the end, but she was determined to have this child.
She wouldn't return to the Walsh family, not wanting to be manipulated like Verity.
She made her stance clear, "Dad, don't worry! Even if I starve outside, I won't come back to the Walsh family for money."
Royce snorted, "You better stick to that!"
He left with Verity.
Unexpectedly, they ran into Grant at the entrance.
The atmosphere became tense.
Royce, though harsh, knew Grant had leverage over him and didn't dare to confront him in front of Verity.
He just snorted and left with Verity.
After they left, Grant walked into the living room.
Nancy looked at him quietly, then asked softly, "Why did you come back?"
Grant gently touched her face.
He spoke softly, "The house has surveillance, remember? I saw your parents come over, so I came back."
He didn't ask what was said; anyone could guess.
Grant's voice grew even softer. "Nancy, I'll work hard so you won't regret today's decision."
Nancy smiled faintly.
No matter what their future held, she wouldn't regret it.
She looked at him and asked him to wait... She said she had something for him.
Nancy went upstairs and came back with a bank card and a jewelry box.
She handed them to Grant, saying, "Starting over needs money. This is my premarital property. You can use it to start again."
The cash totaled over forty million dollars, and her jewelry could fetch around twenty million dollars.
Grant didn't want to take it.
Nancy said, "Consider it my investment. I kept half a million dollars for myself. The baby and I won't lack for anything."
Grant's eyes grew moist.
Half a million dollars wouldn't even buy a small apartment in Syeattel.
Nancy was giving him everything, yet she said she and the baby wouldn't lack for anything...
He still didn't take it. No matter what, he couldn't spend his wife's premarital property.
He held her close, his lips pressed to her hairline.
In that moment, silence spoke louder than words.
The feelings he couldn't express, he thought, he would share when he could provide a good life for his wife and child.
Then, he would have the confidence to promise her a lifetime of happiness.
A week later, Granatal Nexus Technologies Group collapsed.
Overnight, Grant lost everything, even their house, which was seized by the court.
Nancy began packing, preparing to move.
