Chapter 664 I'm Begging You! Can You Stay Away from Me?
Caitlyn stared at him, her eyes burning with intensity. Blood filled her mouth, and she swallowed it with a wince. She looked at Landon and said softly, "You saw it too! You keep saying you want to make it up to me and take care of me, but all you bring me is endless trouble. So, Mr. Carter, can you and your family stay away from me? I'm begging you!"
Landon's heart ached. After a long pause, he finally said, "I'll take you to the hospital!"
Caitlyn refused, but Landon was insistent because her face was severely swollen. Even if their relationship was over, he couldn't leave her like this.
Caitlyn was forcibly taken away by him. She resisted, so he carried her in his arms, attracting the attention of the hotel staff along the way. Once in the car, she tried to get out, but Landon locked the doors.
He held her hand and said hoarsely, "Please; just listen to me, okay?"
Tears welled up in Caitlyn's eyes. She retorted, "What am I to you? Landon, you have a wife and kid now. Do you think it's appropriate to talk to me like this and take me to the hospital? Or do you think I haven't been beaten badly enough by your wife and your father's first wife, or that my reputation isn't ruined enough?"
"Caitlyn!"
Caitlyn lowered her eyes, and tears fell. She said softly, "Landon, the thing I regret most in my life is meeting you! If I hadn't been so stubborn, I wouldn't be where I am today! From now on, let's end this between us! Don't feel sorry for me anymore. I'll stay far away from you. That's the ending we should have."
She was extremely serious, without a trace of capriciousness. After speaking, she exhaled. "Open the door! I know the way to the hospital myself!"
The atmosphere in the car was thick with unspoken emotions. Finally, after what seemed an eternity, Landon reached over and unlocked the door.
Caitlyn's slender fingers gripped the door handle, and she left without a moment's hesitation. The door opened and then closed again.
Landon sat in the car, trembling as he took a cigarette from his pocket and lit it. The glowing red tip was particularly striking in the dim car. Though he couldn't see Caitlyn anymore, memories of their time together filled his mind. Even their worst moments were better than now, because now she didn't even want to look at him. He couldn't help but wonder how it had come to this.
Three days later, the Carter Family returned to Bostan, including Landon. They held a grand banquet to celebrate Landon's birthday, and on the same day, they announced that Phoebe was pregnant. The couple's love made others envious.
The news spread everywhere, but Caitlyn chose to ignore it. They had separated, and it was only normal for Landon to return to his family. She deliberately avoided any news about him, and he never sought her out. Life became peaceful.
A month later, in the sweltering heat of summer, Amara accompanied Kingsley to a fancy banquet. Their wedding was set for the golden days of October.
When Amara and Kingsley got engaged, it was a big deal, and the Hawkins Family showed her all the respect.
That night, Amara was unwrapping gifts and keeping track of everything. These social obligations would need to be reciprocated in the future.
At the end, she opened a box and found a string of vibrant ruby bracelets. Each gem was full and looked very valuable, though not new.
Amara stared at the box for a long time before noticing a word at the bottom: Hughes. She realized who had sent it and was stunned for a while.
"What are you looking at?" Kingsley, fresh out of the shower and wearing a bathrobe, sat beside her and pulled her into his arms. Amara snapped back to reality and shook her head lightly. "Nothing!"
She lowered her eyes. "It's from Zachary! It must be something my mom wore back in the day."
But Zachary had let her mom down back then, so why the pretense now?
Kingsley took the item and looked at it. It actually suited Amara very well. He thought Amara must look a lot like her mother, and Zachary had been quite fond of her for a while. Unfortunately, that relationship was one-sided and ended tragically.
He put the lid back on the box. "I'll have someone return it tomorrow."
Amara looked up at him.
Kingsley kissed her gently and said, "I'm your husband now. It's only normal for me to handle these things for you."
Amara didn't dwell on it. She kissed him back, and after a while, she gently caressed his chiseled chin and whispered, "Kingsley, kissing you feels incredibly good."
He put the box down and deepened the kiss, his high nose lightly brushing against her. "You just realized that? Amara, you haven't been with any other guys all these years. Is it because you can't find anyone better than me?"
Amara, who wasn't so reserved in private, knew what Kingsley liked to hear. She moaned softly, "Yes, I haven't seen anyone better looking than you!"
"Just good looking?" Kingsley made it clear he wasn't letting her go tonight, his large hand already exploring under her clothes. "Isn't there anything else you can't forget?"
Amara feigned ignorance, prompting Kingsley to tease her. After being together for so long, they knew exactly how to please each other. Before long, Amara was breathless.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and moaned, "Let's go to the bed!"
Kingsley pushed aside the gifts in the way, holding her body and kissing her, his voice low and sexy. "The carpet is soft; it won't hurt."
