Chapter 56 Does he have a physical problem?
Charlotte trailed behind Frederick as they headed back to the apartment. After a moment of thought, she asked, "Did you do something to the Cooper Group?"
Frederick paused and shot back, "Are you trying to defend Ethan?"
"No," Charlotte replied awkwardly, fiddling with two bottles of red wine.
Frederick watched her for a bit, then plopped down on the sofa and turned on the financial news. After a while, seeing Charlotte still standing there, he said, "Aren't you going to cook?"
Charlotte nodded and went to change into her home clothes. She couldn't help but wonder, 'Does Frederick have any sexual needs? My role seems to be just cooking, cleaning, fetching things for him, basically taking turns with Jessica.'
She couldn't tell; Frederick was pretty restrained.
While Charlotte cooked, Frederick wasn't idle either. He took several phone calls. Just as he was about to take a shower, Charlotte's phone on the table lit up.
Frederick glanced towards the kitchen and casually picked up her phone. He knew her password and easily unlocked it, seeing two Facebook messages from Ethan: [Some people's affection is worthless. It changed just like that!]
Frederick sneered. 'What a romantic!'
With a blank expression, he replied: [If it's worthless, then throw it in the trash!]
After replying, he deleted the message and blocked Ethan.
On the other end, Ethan was stunned.
Charlotte made four dishes, all of which looked and tasted great, especially the roasted chicken wings. Everyone who tried them said they were excellent.
She called Frederick to eat. He was still watching financial news, and it took two calls for him to get up lazily, his expression unfriendly.
Charlotte guessed he was in a bad mood and didn't dare provoke him.
Frederick took a few bites and suddenly said, "Out of four dishes, not one is to my liking."
Charlotte was taken aback. "Jessica told me your general preferences. It shouldn't be wrong!"
Frederick's gaze was intense. "Why didn't you ask me directly what I like to eat?"
Charlotte was speechless.
She had thought that living with him meant her main job was to lie down and let him enjoy himself, not realizing he would be so picky about daily life! She couldn't help but think of the several times when, despite being in the heat of the moment, he could stop midway.
'Does he have some physical issue he's too embarrassed to mention and is taking it out on me in other ways?' Charlotte thought and felt a bit sympathetic. 'Even Frederick has his imperfections!'
Charlotte was very accommodating. "I'll pay attention to it next time."
Frederick snorted and continued to nitpick, barely eating anything. "You used to cook for Ethan too, right? Are these dishes his favorites?"
Charlotte finally understood; he was taking out his anger on her because of Ethan!
'These dishes were clearly your favorites!' Charlotte's eyes reddened a bit.
But knowing her position, she didn't dare to offend him and could only soften her tone. "I can't change my past with him, but for me, that's long over. I won't think about him anymore! We have to live together for a while. If you're going to be like this every day..."
She couldn't continue, feeling wronged.
Frederick remained silent, seated on the sofa and lighting a cigarette.
Charlotte started to clean the table, pack the leftover food into bags, and change her shoes to go downstairs.
"Where are you going?" Frederick thought she was going to throw the food in the trash.
Charlotte's voice was nasal. "I'm going downstairs to feed the dogs! There are always stray dogs that will like the food I make."
Frederick was taken aback, then chuckled.
She had subtly dared to challenge him!
But at this moment, Frederick wasn't angry at all; instead, he found this side of Charlotte somewhat endearing.
