Chapter 457 When I Make a Move, I Get What I Want
After sorting everything out, Andrew took some time to recover.
He stayed in the hospital for a week. Chloe was by his side, but the Hawkins Family took the kids after two days.
Frederick was holding Natalie and carrying Gavin. "Gavin needs to go to school! We'll leave him with Charlotte for now."
Andrew sighed. "Gavin needs school, but Natalie doesn't!"
Frederick grinned. "Charlotte signed Sienna up for an elite class, so Natalie can tag along and see how she likes it. If she fits in, we might as well enroll her too."
Frederick was definitely up to something!
Didn't he say he wanted to spoil Sienna? Now she's in a class at just over two years old?
Frederick took the kids downstairs. Charlotte, Johnny, and Lola were already in the car.
Lola was thrilled to see Natalie. She hugged her gently and then asked, "How could Andrew let her go? He loves Natalie the most."
Frederick flicked Lola's forehead, got into the driver's seat, buckled up, and laughed. "When I make a move, I get what I want!"
Andrew was reluctant, but Chloe was okay with it, and he couldn't say no to her.
Charlotte held Natalie and glanced at Frederick in the rearview mirror.
She knew what he was thinking.
She was speechless; they were a happy family of four in the hospital, and he insisted on taking the kids out.
Frederick met her gaze in the mirror.
His eyes were clear.
A moment later, he turned to Charlotte. "I'm taking a week off next, staying home to help with the kids."
Charlotte turned her face slightly away. Frederick smiled and gently pinched her cheek.
The car slowly drove away from the hospital.
Gavin sat in the back seat, feeling pretty good. He liked going to Frederick's house. Especially since Johnny knew a lot, they had things to talk about.
Suddenly, he looked out the window and saw Amanda pushing Molly. She was wearing a white dress, with her hair down. Gavin was in a daze, but he could tell she was really pretty and likable.
"What are you looking at?" Charlotte touched his head and asked softly.
Gavin snapped out of it and shook his head.
They didn't notice his odd behavior, unaware of the impact of that scene on Gavin.
He felt a bit embarrassed and annoyed.
That Molly again! Was she still in the hospital?
Lola, playing with Natalie, said in a crisp voice, "Gavin must be looking at a pretty girl! Our teacher says boys his age can't take their eyes off pretty girls, especially those in white dresses."
Gavin blushed and retorted, "No, I'm not!"
Lola smiled. "Then why are you blushing?"
Gavin thought, 'Too smart to be cute at all!'
Lola was in a great mood. She loved teasing Gavin, and seeing him blush and speechless made her happy.
Gavin and Natalie were taken away, leaving just Andrew and Chloe. Andrew wasn't rushing to build their relationship; he was more focused on getting better.
That evening, Chloe got a call. She said a few words, her eyes drifting to Andrew.
Andrew was leaning against the headboard, flipping through a magazine.
Finally, Chloe took the call outside. In the hallway, she listened to Eli's frustrated voice, his usual calm gone.
He wasn't backing down.
Chloe knew someone had recently introduced a young, beautiful student to Eli.
She didn't have much to say, but she didn't easily agree to Eli's request.
She didn't expect Andrew was pressuring Eli behind her back.
But no matter how upset she was with Andrew, she couldn't embarrass him. After all, he was standing up for her. If she turned around and spoke for Eli, she'd look ungrateful.
Chloe politely declined, leaving Eli stunned. He was silent for a moment, then spoke hoarsely, "Chloe, do you believe I can make it impossible for you to stay in this industry?"
Chloe blinked and replied, "I'm sure you can! But if I can't stay, so be it. What does it matter?"
Eli was dumbfounded.
Chloe's voice was low, "Even if I never act again, what my father, my brother, and even Andrew have given me is enough for a lifetime. But your directing career might not be so smooth. So, Eli, you'd better talk to Andrew. But let me warn you, he's sick and in a bad mood; Even I usually don't dare to provoke him!"
She hung up the phone, her face feeling a bit flushed. She had never said such things before and felt quite bold.
After hanging up, Chloe put the matter out of her mind and returned to the ward.
Andrew, wearing a white hospital gown, tilted his head to look at her.
She walked to the small table and started peeling an apple.
After a moment, she said softly, "Andrew, you don't have to do this for me."
"I can't watch you being bullied."
Chloe's eyes fell on the apple, her voice even softer, "Who can bully me more than you? Really, acting is just a hobby. It's not that important to me."
Andrew knew she was lying.
If she didn't like it, she could have stopped acting and stayed with the two kids.
She had persisted all these years because she liked it.
Andrew didn't bring up the matter again.
Chloe didn't want to talk about it either, as it would seem like she was pressuring him. So, for the next couple of days, neither of them mentioned it. When Eli called again, Chloe didn't answer.
Two days later, Eli had hurried over from somewhere, looking very anxious.
Now, not only was the filming location denied to him, but even the advertisers for his next film had pulled out early without explanation, just saying he was unreliable and had offended someone.
Eli thought it over and could only think of Andrew.
He immediately rushed to Syeattel.
Seeing Chloe again, the atmosphere was a bit awkward.
Chloe wasn't the type to hold grudges. She smiled lightly and asked, "Here to see Andrew or to talk to me?"
Eli wanted to plead his case, but Andrew was getting an IV, holding his phone and reading the news.
Without looking up, Andrew said, "Your hair's unwashed, there's mud on your shoes, and your face is oily. Eli, I have pneumonia. Are you here to visit me or to harm me?"
Eli felt embarrassed.
In the past, Andrew had treated him well for Chloe's sake.
He thought Andrew was a nice guy, but now, with just a few words, Andrew exuded an overwhelming pressure. Eli couldn't help but shiver.
Andrew's voice suddenly deepened, "Eli! Chloe is easy to talk to, but I'm not. If you don't believe me, ask around. Who else would give $80 million so readily?"
Eli's forehead was covered in cold sweat.
Andrew's voice softened again, "Actually, I don't interfere much in Chloe's career. I just can't stand seeing her wronged! It's my fault for meddling. You two should discuss your work matters yourselves. I won't give any more advice, or Chloe will blame me for interfering too much and affecting our relationship."
With an outsider present, she was grateful Andrew gave her some leeway. She couldn't contradict him.
Chloe slowed down the IV drip.
Andrew looked up at her intently, reminding her of what had happened in the bathroom a couple of days ago, causing her face to flush slightly.
When she spoke, her voice was slightly strained, "I'm going downstairs to take care of something. I'll be back soon. If you need anything, just press the nurse's button."
Andrew smiled gently, a bit tenderly.
Eli didn't want to face him either. He preferred to talk to Chloe.
It was still the same café.
The waiter brought two cups of coffee. Chloe thanked him and pushed one cup to Eli.
Eli took a big gulp. He felt much better and hesitated before saying, "Chloe, it's not that I'm targeting you on purpose, but this time you really..."
Chloe looked at him quietly. After a moment, she said softly, "I've already told you, I can pay the rent for the studio myself, and I'll cover any other losses! I've already filmed two-thirds of this short film, but you didn't care about it and insisted in ending our collaboration."
Eli was at a loss.
Chloe smiled slightly, "As for Andrew, I think that's entirely you who provoked him and has nothing to do with me. If you want to talk, you should talk to Andrew."
Eli was taken aback.
Chloe was part of the Hawkins Family, and none of them are easy to get along with.
He wiped his sweat with a napkin and finally spoke the truth, "Another investor specifically requested a student, or he wouldn't invest $40 million."
Chloe smiled, "So that's it!"
"I had no choice! I can't afford to offend either side, so..."
"So you found an opportunity to kick me out and give the role I signed for to that girl?"
Eli's mouth opened and closed. After a long time, he squeezed out a sentence, "That was Wesley!"
Chloe asked him for Wesley's phone number.
Eli thought for a moment and gave it to her.
Chloe looked at it, recognized it, and directly called Nathan.
Nathan heard this and laughed, "An old acquaintance! He used to get resources from Andrew. I'll handle this. No need to bother Andrew. I can make him suffer."
Chloe smiled faintly, "I still want Wesley's investment! Also, give his mistress a role, the third female lead. Newcomers need opportunities."
Nathan understood. He smiled and said, "I usually don't have much skill, but I'll make sure you're happy with this. Chloe, just wait!"
Chloe thought he was just like Andrew.
She hung up the phone.
Eli eagerly asked, "Can you guarantee the $40 million investment? And that woman is willing to be the third female lead?"
Chloe said calmly, "She has to be willing!"
She hadn't intended to make a fuss. But since Andrew had stood up for her, she had to handle the rest of the matter properly herself.
Eli finally realized that the person you should never offend in this industry was Chloe.
No wonder Grace had warned him, but he just didn't believe it.
Chloe paid and stood up.
Eli chased after her, panting, "Chloe, wait for me! I'm still empty-handed visiting Andrew. There's a flower shop ahead; I'll buy something. Wait for me!"
Chloe refused and returned to the ward.
Andrew was reading a morning paper. Hearing footsteps, he knew it was Chloe and asked calmly, "How did the talk go?"
Chloe closed the door. She leaned against it and softly explained what had happened.
Andrew was quite surprised.
Because of Chloe's nature, she didn't like to compete, let alone let a female student take the third female lead role.
Chloe saw his surprised look and smiled. "Why are you surprised?"
"I'm part of the Hawkins Family and your girlfriend. If I'm suppressed by someone else's mistress, people will laugh at the Hawkins Family and you!"
That girl would use the Hawkins Family and the Devereux Family for publicity. Chloe wouldn't give her that chance.
If she didn't know her place, Chloe wouldn't mind ruining her.
Andrew looked at Chloe quietly, as if reassessing her. Chloe was straightforward.
She had been in this industry for years, so she wasn't naive anymore!
When Andrew was seriously ill, she didn't make a fuss.
After a long time, Andrew smiled lightly, "That's good!"
Chloe didn't delve into his thoughts.
While he was recovering, she took care of him and did her own things.
They both felt good about it.
Two days later, Andrew felt much better. He asked the doctor if he could be discharged in two days.
"I think I can leave today! I'm about to go crazy."
The doctor smiled, "You're much better now than when you first came. Trusting the doctor is never wrong!"
Andrew sweetly said, "Chloe says the same thing."
The doctor smiled again, "You two have a great relationship! Chloe put her career aside to take care of you. That's impressive."
As they were talking, there was a knock on the door. Andrew looked over and saw two unfamiliar people: a man with a broad face and big ears, accompanied by a very young mistress. Andrew guessed their identities.
