Chapter 632 Together in the Same Room Again

The night felt like it would never end.

This was the first time they had been in the same room since their big fight.

Amara lay on her side, holding Jesse. The night was so quiet she could almost hear the snowflakes falling outside as she lost track of time and drifted off.

Just a few feet away, Kingsley lay still.

He could see Amara out of the corner of his eye. She was sleeping with Jesse, but most of the space was given to Jesse. Her back was sticking out from under the blanket, looking so thin. He could probably wrap his hand around her waist.

Earlier, he had a moment of closeness with Amara, and now his mind was replaying those scenes like a slideshow. Feeling awkward, he turned over to hide his embarrassment.

The sofa was super narrow, and he was sleeping uncomfortably.

During the night, he checked on Jesse and noticed Amara was awake too.

But they just looked at each other without saying a word.

Early in the morning, Jesse woke up feeling much better. He quietly got out of bed and ran to the sofa, plopping down on Kingsley, who groaned and opened his eyes.

"Daddy!" Jesse called out, hugging his neck and nuzzling him, clearly very happy.

Even though the room was warm, Jesse was only wearing a thin hospital gown. Kingsley grabbed his little arm and pulled him into his arms, covering them both with a wool coat.

Jesse wrinkled his nose. "Daddy, your clothes smell like alcohol."

Kingsley rested one hand behind his head and gently caressed Jesse's warm, soft body with the other. He said gently, "I have to do business."

Jesse lay entirely on him, pausing for a moment before speaking "Is it like on TV, where pretty ladies sit on your lap?"

Kingsley frowned.

Coincidentally, Amara woke up and heard this.

Kingsley withdrew his gaze and pinched Jesse's cheek. "It's just acting."

Jesse was quite happy, but after a while, his face fell. "I forgot, Daddy has a girlfriend."

Kingsley was silent.

Jesse's little face pressed against Kingsley's neck, and he said softly, "Mom said I don't have to call Dad's girlfriend 'Mom'! When Mom finds a boyfriend, I'll just call him 'Sir.'"

These words were very considerate.

Kingsley, however, looked at Amara, his gaze slightly deep, but his tone was casual. "Your mom has a boyfriend?"

Jesse sighed. "She will eventually! Mom is so pretty! Hailey said that women shouldn't put all their eggs in one basket when it comes to dating."

Amara felt too embarrassed to listen any longer, so she brushed it off lightly. "Hailey was just talking nonsense."

Kingsley's intense gaze locked onto her. After a moment, he snorted lightly, "If you're feeling lonely, I can help!"

"No thanks!" Amara shot back coldly.

Jesse's little feet wiggled against Kingsley. "Daddy, what help?"

These words were definitely not for Jesse's ears.

Luckily, the nurse came in to take his temperature. Jesse didn't want to leave Kingsley, still clinging to him like a little bear. The nurse had to get close to Kingsley to take Jesse's temperature, her face turning red.

Amara took the chance to go wash up. As she was washing her face, Kingsley came in and gently closed the door.

Amara saw him in the mirror and asked softly, "What do you mean?"

Kingsley met her gaze in the mirror.

After a moment, he asked quietly, "Are you planning to find a boyfriend?"

Amara thought of their fallout and Hannah by his side, and didn't explain. "Yes! Does this bother you?"

Kingsley stared at her for a few seconds, then slowly walked over and turned on the faucet, the water running loudly.

Then Amara found herself pressed against the wall by him.

Her back hurt, and in front of her was his hard body. Just like last night, he grabbed her chin and forced her into a deep kiss, his teasing making her body go weak.

With Jesse and the nurse outside, Amara didn't dare to resist loudly.

She kicked and bit him, but it didn't faze him at all.

Just when she thought he was going to succeed, Kingsley suddenly let her go. He stepped back and started to straighten his shirt, leisurely, while admiring her disheveled appearance.

Amara's hand pressed against the wall.

Her chest heaved violently, and she couldn't help but curse him, "You bastard!"

His expression was nonchalant and arrogant. He looked at her for a while before saying in a hoarse voice, "Sorry for making you so embarrassed."

Amara didn't back down. "This has nothing to do with you."

"What's the point of just talking tough?" He glanced at her and opened the door to leave.

Amara was so angry that she splashed cold water on her face for a long time.

When she went out, Kingsley's driver and Rebecca had arrived, bringing Kingsley's change of clothes, a sumptuous breakfast, and toys for the kid.

Rebecca said, "Mr. Frederick Hawkins and Ms. Russell went to Copenhagen, otherwise they would have come to see Jesse."

Amara didn't mind.

Jesse just had a cold and fever; no need to make a big deal out of it.

Kingsley went to the bathroom to change clothes, while Amara took care of Jesse. Rebecca hadn't seen her in a while and, after some polite conversation, couldn't help but express her concern. "The Cook Family is pretty anxious now. Since the New Year, Hannah's been to the Hawkins Mansion several times."

Amara smiled faintly. "Rebecca, thanks for your concern! But he needs to settle down, and we're just not a good match in many ways."

Rebecca lightly patted her head. "So you were all just attracted by looks before?"

Amara didn't deny it.

Seeing her attitude, Rebecca felt they had no chance of being together and changed the subject. "I heard your career is doing quite well. Congrats!"

Amara was very grateful for Rebecca's help along the way and thought she would have to repay the favor in the future.

As they talked, Kingsley came out of the bathroom, dressed impeccably for a formal business meeting, looking mature and handsome.

Jesse was in awe!

He wanted Kingsley to hold him, but Amara gently patted him. "Your daddy has a meeting; maybe next time, okay?"

When she said this, her tone was gentle, especially the word "daddy," which sounded pleasing to Kingsley's ears.

Kingsley still hugged Jesse.

Just as Kingsley was about to leave, the door opened, and in came Hailey and Billy.

As soon as they entered and saw the people inside, Billy, who used to admire Kingsley greatly for his power, influence, and good looks, now spoke less politely since Kingsley was no longer with Amara. He mocked. "Kingsley, you finally have time to come see Jesse! He's been sick for days, and you just found out! Well, you're a busy man. Even if you and Amara can't be a couple, you should at least take care of Jesse! If you don't care, I'll have Naomi take care of both kids, so Amara doesn't have to stress over work and Jesse. Constant worrying will take a toll on her health and appearance, making it harder to attract a handsome man."

Billy kept talking, and Hailey pinched his arm hard.

Hailey smiled apologetically. "Billy just talks nonsense. Mr. Hawkins, please don't take it to heart."

Kingsley adjusted his cufflinks. He looked at Amara and smiled faintly. "It's okay! But if Amara really wants to find a lover and it's inconvenient to take Jesse, I can help."

After saying this, Kingsley nodded gracefully and left.

As the door closed, Billy shook his fist. "Does he really think no one wants Amara? Someone like Amara is a top-quality partner in the marriage market!"

Hailey scolded, "Stop talking; you're always causing trouble for Amara."

Billy smiled apologetically and teased Jesse. "Am I right? Your mom is beautiful and capable, isn't she?"

Jesse just laughed.

Hailey couldn't do anything about him and sighed.

With Hailey taking care of Jesse, Amara felt much more relaxed. She was supposed to go to the office today but postponed it to tomorrow. She spent the entire morning reviewing documents, busy with the latest financing for the Carter Group's branch.

In the afternoon, good news finally came.

Floyd Palmer, the president of Titan Ventures Corporation, was interested in their project and wanted to invest.

Amara wanted to arrange a meeting with Floyd.

Her assistant was quite capable and quickly arranged a meeting with Floyd, not privately but at an auction the day after tomorrow. Amara knew this kind of setting was the ultimate test. Gifts were secondary; building good relationships was key.

Amara hung up the phone, feeling a bit better, and turned to see Jesse standing by the suitcase, dressed neatly and holding a small toy.

Jesse blinked and asked, "Is Daddy coming to pick me up from the hospital?"

Amara squatted down. She gently touched Jesse's little head. "Your daddy is working; he might not be able to come today!"

Jesse pouted. "But Mommy also has to work, and you stayed with me."

Amara smiled. "Isn't it good to have me with you? When I can't make it, we'll let your daddy stay with you, okay?"

Jesse reluctantly agreed. Once he got into Billy's car, Jesse forgot all about it, curiously looking around. Billy raised his eyebrows. "My car is cool, right? It may not be a luxury car, but it can seat seven people. With our big family, this car is perfect."

Hailey was also happy inside.

But she said, "You always talk nonsense. Next time you see Kingsley, keep your mouth shut."

Billy laughed. "Amara is so beautiful, she shouldn't have to chase after him! Mom, don't worry. If he really cares about her, he can handle any harsh words. Besides, am I not telling the truth?"

Amara said softly, "There's no chance for us to be together."

Jesse also said pitifully, "Daddy has a girlfriend."

Billy awkwardly scratched his head and said, "That's his loss, isn't it?"

Amara was about to say something when Kingsley called.
