Chapter 189 Brian Nelson
Charlotte's words dripped with sarcasm.
Frederick felt a pang in his chest. He looked down and after a while, said, "Charlotte."
She stayed silent, tearing the document into pieces.
When she looked at him again, her eyes were cold. "Frederick, keep your promise."
He made a call, ending all pressure on Summit Innovations Group.
It was over.
Frederick watched her walk away, wanting to reach out, but Charlotte tensed up. He pulled back and forced a smile. "I won't touch you. Charlotte, can you make me a meal, please?"
She didn't respond.
Frederick hugged her from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder. "Make me a meal. I haven't had a proper one in ages. Without you, I can't sleep."
He couldn't stop thinking about her.
Charlotte pushed him away.
Standing by the window, she said softly, "Frederick, when I wanted to love you, you didn't give me a chance. Now I don't want to anymore. I can avoid Oliver, but I can't be with you again. If you force me, I'll fight back."
She turned slightly, "You have secrets. Someone like you wouldn't want to risk your perfect image, right?"
Frederick wasn't surprised.
He knew Charlotte well enough to expect this. Those secrets wouldn't hurt him if they got out, but he was willing to back off.
"I'm leaving now. Don't skip dinner," he said gently, as if nothing had happened.
As he left, he lightly patted her back.
Charlotte stiffened, rejecting his touch.
He paused, voice hoarse, "Charlotte, I know you hate me, but I don't regret it."
She gave a cold smile.
Of course, he didn't regret it. He hadn't lost anything.
The next day, Charlotte went to the music studio and got busy with work.
Frederick called several times, but she didn't answer.
He often sent flowers and meals from fancy hotels, but Charlotte never accepted them.
A week later, Lily called. "Charlotte, Oliver's going on a business trip. His flight's at 2 PM! Bradley said he might be gone for a year, maybe two!"
Charlotte stood by the window, holding her phone.
She replied with a simple "Hmm."
Lily asked softly, "Do you want to see him off?"
Charlotte tilted her head slightly and after a moment said, "No, just send my regards."
Lily sighed softly.
After hanging up, Charlotte kept staring at the blue sky and white clouds.
Oliver was gone.
But she'd always remember that on her darkest night, it was Oliver who came out of the shadows to comfort her. She also remembered him saying, "Charlotte, give me a chance!"
'Oliver, I hope you have a worry-free life.'
Around noon, Jenna came in. "Charlotte, the driver you wanted to interview is here. Do you want to see him now?"
Charlotte said calmly, "Let him in."
The receptionist left with a blush, which Charlotte found odd. 'Why was she blushing?'
She soon found out.
The office door opened, and the driver walked in. The first thing she noticed was a pair of incredibly long legs. Looking up, she saw a handsome young face.
He had narrow eyes, a straight nose, and thin lips.
A textbook example of a handsome man!
Without thinking, Charlotte said, "You might be in the wrong place. We're looking for a driver."
Brian Nelson tossed a document onto her desk. "I'm applying for the driver position."
Charlotte looked at the document.
Brian was 23 years old from Bostan and six feet tall.
Charlotte cleared her throat. "Mr. Nelson, for certain reasons, we might not be able to hire you."
Brian sat on her desk. "I'm a professional race car driver. You should be honored to have me drive for your company."
Charlotte frowned.
She said calmly, "The monthly salary is $400 with no accommodation. If you want the job, you can stay."
She thought Brian wouldn't take it.
But Brian smiled and leaned closer. "My card was confiscated. Are you expecting me to live on the streets with $3000 and no accommodation? That's not safe at all, especially since I'm so good-looking."
Charlotte looked down to handle other matters.
She said calmly, "With your looks, you could easily earn $30000 a month."
Brian jumped up. "I'm not selling my body!"
Charlotte pressed the intercom and asked Jenna to show Brian out. She really couldn't keep him here. If she did, none of the female employees at the music studio would get any work done.
Jenna blushed, feeling it was a pity.
Brian was quite angry. "It's your honor that I'm willing to drive for you, you know?"
Just then, Maria came in with a lunchbox.
She brought lunch for Charlotte and immediately saw the tall, handsome man standing in the office.
He was really good-looking!
Maria was overjoyed!
When Brian heard Charlotte call her "Mom," he immediately stepped forward to help Maria sit down, took the lunchbox from her hands, and was particularly respectful and polite. "You must be Maria! Why did you come here yourself in this hot weather? I'm here to drive for Charlotte. From now on, just call me, and I'll pick you up right away!"
Maria carefully looked him over and couldn't stop smiling.
Charlotte remained silent.
Brian sat close to Maria, blinking his eyes. "A monthly salary of $3000, and no place to stay!"
Brian looked at her with trusting eyes, Maria couldn't resist and asked Charlotte, "Don't we have any dormitories?"
Jenna quickly answered for Charlotte, "Only female dormitories!"
Maria felt it was a pity.
He was such a good-looking and well-behaved kid!
Brian kept looking at her with trusting eyes, and Maria's heart softened. "I have a spare room at my place. Let Brian stay with me!"
Charlotte was opposed to it.
This person in front of her had an unknown background. How could he stay with Maria?
But Maria really liked him. She chatted with Brian all afternoon and left satisfied, insisting that Charlotte keep Brian.
Seeing Maria so happy, Charlotte's heart softened.
Since her father passed away, Maria had been in a bad mood. Having such a delightful person around might cheer her up!
Charlotte flipped through the documents and said calmly, "Go for a medical check-up this afternoon. If everything is fine, you can start work tomorrow!"
Brian, who had been swinging his legs, suddenly jumped up. "A medical check-up? I'm full of illnesses!"
Charlotte pressed the intercom. "Please show Brian out!"
Brian raised his hands in surrender. "Okay, I'll go. You come with me!"
"Someone, please."
"Alright, alright. I'll go by myself!"
Charlotte smiled slightly. "I'll be waiting for your medical report!"
Brian smirked and leaned in. "I'll show you that I'm in perfect health, Charlotte!"
"Call me Ms. Russell, or I'll deduct $20 from your salary each time!"
Brian swung his long legs as he walked to the door, then suddenly turned back, his eyes flashing with some unknown emotion. "Ms. Russell, see you tomorrow!"
Charlotte felt an indescribable sensation.
She could tell that Brian came from a good background. The shoes on his feet alone were worth thousands of dollars, and the watch on his wrist was a Patek Philippe antique collection. So she wasn't too worried that he would harm Maria.
He was probably a rich kid who had run away from home.
The next day, Brian showed up with his medical report.
He leaned over Charlotte's desk and blew lightly. "All in perfect condition!"
Charlotte glanced at him. "Get down!"
Brian stretched out his long limbs and lazily said, "From now on, I'll be at your service. I'm at your beck and call. You can ask me to do anything! Of course, my specialty is driving. I'm really good at it. Ms. Russell, would you like to give it a try?"
Charlotte said expressionlessly, "Besides driving my car, the company also has a truck for transporting some equipment. There will be someone to coordinate with you."
"Have you ever seen someone as good-looking as me working as a mover?"
"There's a club just ahead that is always hiring." Charlotte retorted, her expression deadpan.
Brian leaned in again, looking quite seductive. "Not just anyone can have my body!"
He blinked.
Charlotte sincerely said, "Actually, you really are suited for that job. I believe within two months, you'll be famous in the city, becoming a well-known figure there. It would be a waste of your talents here."
Brian was quite dissatisfied.
He took out his phone and made a call. "Maria, Ms. Russell wants me to sell my body!"
Charlotte was stunned. How did he have Maria's number?
As a result, Maria felt sorry for him and scolded Charlotte, insisting that she bring him home for dinner and let her stay over.
Charlotte hung up the phone and continued to look at her documents.
After a while, she said calmly, "The faucet on the second floor is broken. Go fix it."
Brian swung his long legs. 'This was revenge!'
He fixed the faucet, getting his shirt all wet, and simply walked around the music studio like that. All the young female teachers blushed but couldn't help but look.
That tight waist, perky butt, and eight-pack abs were charming.
It was practically a benefit from Charlotte!
Brian sat in the driver's seat of Charlotte's car. As soon as he sat down, he complained, "This car is too old! You want me to drive this?"
Charlotte sat in the back, reading documents, and said indifferently, "The truck is even older!"
She saw him shirtless. "Put your shirt on!"
"It's wet! Did you deliberately send me to fix the faucet because you wanted to ogle my body for free?"
Charlotte frowned. "Did you forget to check the psychiatric department during your medical check-up?"
Brian started the car.
After a while, he hummed lightly, "Should I get an additional check-up at the Andrology department for you?"
Charlotte really wanted to fire him today!
She decided that after tonight, she would place him with Maria to specifically take care of her.
