Chapter 652 You're Married, So You Should Treat Your Wife Well!
After she spoke, Caitlyn felt a bit out of it.
Landon felt even worse. But he didn't let her go or bring up his marriage problems. He chose this marriage, and there was no going back. Besides, he didn't regret it, even if Phoebe might've cheated on him.
Landon pulled out a tube of ointment from his coat pocket, something to reduce swelling and pain. He unscrewed the cap with one hand, squeezed some out, and gently applied it to her, careful not to hurt her more.
Caitlyn turned her face away, embarrassed, not wanting to talk to him, but couldn't help but sob and say, "Why are you here? To laugh at me?"
Landon didn't respond. He carefully applied the ointment.
This scene took him back to their good times, when they first started. Caitlyn seemed open, but he found out it was her first time when they made love. She curled up in his arms, crying out in pain, refusing to go further.
That night, for the first time, Landon didn't go all the way.
She was much younger than him, delicate and spoiled, and he didn't cherish her enough. He coaxed her for most of the night, and only in the early morning did he finally make love to her.
Afterward, he applied ointment to her just like this.
Landon lifted his gaze slightly, looking at Caitlyn in his arms, and said softly, "I just wanted to see you."
After speaking, he reluctantly let her go; his fingers noticeably hesitated as he released her.
After all these events, Caitlyn had matured a lot. She didn't cry or make a fuss but calmly said in a low voice, "Thanks for coming to see me. I'm fine, you can go back now."
She held back her emotions before finally speaking, "You're married now, you should treat your wife well! Mrs. Carter seems very nice."
Landon's blue eyes looked at her.
For a long time, he didn't speak. Finally, he took out a cigarette from his pocket and lit it. As the gray smoke rose, Caitlyn stood for a moment and then turned to leave.
He regretted it only because Caitlyn wasn't doing well.
Eden came over, looking very displeased. As soon as Caitlyn entered, Eden slapped her without regard for the nurse present. "You're still in contact with him! Caitlyn, how can you be so shameless?"
Her face, which had just been treated with ointment, swelled up again, and even her lips started to bleed.
The nurse wanted to speak, but Eden drove her away. Once the door closed behind them, she turned her anger back toward Caitlyn, unleashing a torrent of harsh words. From beginning to end, Caitlyn just stared at her father, thinking that if she hadn't been so foolish, the family wouldn't be in such a difficult situation now.
In the afternoon, Joshua passed the critical stage.
The Robinson Family had no sons, so Caitlyn started handling affairs.
She didn't understand those things and was scared as soon as she started. The group and hotel were already in negative equity. The Robinson Family had used all available assets to repay debts, but it was still far from enough. She thought of selling the villa Landon had given her.
Three days later, a potential buyer contacted Caitlyn.
Caitlyn drove over, and the housekeeper, Hazel, was still there. Seeing someone coming to look at the house, Hazel was very anxious. She was used to living there and didn't want to leave, and she was also worried about Caitlyn.
Caitlyn reassured Hazel a few times before showing the house to the potential buyers. After checking out every detail, they finally offered $24 million. The market price was way higher, but Caitlyn needed the money fast, so she sold the villa.
The funds were still not enough, but Caitlyn first made sure Hazel had a place to stay.
The Robinson Family couldn't be relied on anymore, and besides, Eden knew Hazel's background and definitely wouldn't tolerate her. Caitlyn thought of Amara, whose villa was big enough to accommodate one more person.
She called Amara, hesitantly explaining the situation. Although Amara said she needed to discuss it with Kingsley, she still agreed. "You can send Hazel over. We do need more help here."
Caitlyn paused for a moment, then said, her voice choked with emotion, "Amara, I never thought I'd ask you for a favor one day!"
In her younger years, Caitlyn had somewhat looked down on Amara.
After confirming Hazel's place, Caitlyn walked back to the villa. Hazel had already packed her luggage and was quietly wiping her tears.
Seeing Caitlyn coming, she quickly dried her tears and said softly, "Ms. Robinson, I'm going back to my hometown. Take care of yourself."
Hazel had taken care of Caitlyn for over two years, not only without asking for her salary but also giving her a card. "This is my little savings. Although it's not much, consider it a loan from me."
Caitlyn gently touched the card with her pale fingers and said softly after a long time, "This is your retirement money; how can I take it? Don't go back to your hometown. Amara needs help, and she's much better to people than I am!"
Hazel couldn't help but cry again.
Hazel had lost her husband when she was young and had no children. She was really reluctant to leave Caitlyn.
Caitlyn said softly, "You go there first. When things get better, I'll bring you back."
Hazel kept saying okay!
Caitlyn picked up her luggage and put it in her trunk. She was afraid Hazel would be looked down upon by other servants there, so she planned to personally take her.
Hazel was initially afraid to sit in her car.
Caitlyn held the car door and said softly after a while, "I don't have much left now!"
She didn't say more, but Hazel understood her meaning.
Hazel got in the car, and Caitlyn closed the door. Before getting in, she looked at the villa. Tomorrow, it would belong to someone else, and all memories of Landon would disappear with it.
Caitlyn's eyes welled up, but she tightened her resolve and held them back. There was no room for emotion right now, not with the myriad of responsibilities that needed her immediate attention.
The red sports car slowly drove away from the villa.
In the distance, a black Range Rover approached, and the window rolled down.
Landon's arm rested on the window, a cigarette between his long fingers. After a while, the two buyers of the villa came over, respectfully greeted him as Mr. Carter, and handed him the villa keys.
Landon accepted the keys with a curt nod and stubbed out his cigarette before stepping out of the car. Walking through the front door, he was met with an overwhelming sense of familiarity tinged with an unsettling emptiness.
He gently touched the back of the sofa, reminiscing about the passionate moments they shared there. He had pressed her slender body against the sofa, making love to her fiercely. Usually obedient, she would sometimes scratch him like a kitten when she got angry.
In recent years, he hadn't treated her well. While being with her, he also had other lovers, though he never cared for them as much as he did for her. However, she couldn't tolerate his other affairs and often got angry with him, yet every time, she stayed, her eyes red with tears. Looking back now, he realized what a jerk he had been.
Landon went upstairs to take another look, touched the bed they had slept in, and then left.
Meanwhile, Amara hung up the phone.
Although Amara didn't ask for details, she knew Caitlyn's situation wasn't good. Amara sat quietly in her leather chair for a moment before calling in the company's financial manager to ask about the situation.
The manager, a savvy professional, knew his new boss well. As soon as Amara asked, he said, "The company was actually in a difficult position, but recently Mr. Palmer invested, so things have improved a lot. We can still come up with about $100 million."
Amara nodded and said, "Doesn't the company have an annual uniform order? I heard the Robinson Group handles that. Have the internal department keep an eye on it. Also, let's have the headquarters order uniforms from my side as well."
Amara used to be Landon's secretary. She still held some authority, and the financial manager was quite supportive of her.
After the financial manager left, Amara sat alone for a long time.
Amara thought about Caitlyn and also about her relationship with Kingsley.
Because of Hazel, Amara wanted to leave work early. Before leaving, she called Kingsley. "What time do you get off work?"
On the other end, Kingsley chuckled at her soft voice. "Ms. Butler, calling at this hour, any instructions?"
Amara said softly, "I'm near your company, and my car broke down. Can I ride with you back home?"
Kingsley, sitting in his swivel chair, gently turned.
Across the desk was Rebecca.
Kingsley had just received a call from home, learning that Caitlyn had sent their shared housekeeper to his place for retirement. He figured Amara had privately agreed to this, and now she was trying to curry favor with him!
She pretended not to know about it, and he didn't expose her. "Sure, where are you? I'll pick you up."
Amara said quickly, "Not far, I'll come to your company!" She hung up the phone, feeling a bit guilty.
Kingsley looked at his phone, then said to Rebecca, "Continue with what you were saying."
Rebecca smiled. "Was that Amara?"
Kingsley had a charming smile, looking quite pleased. "Yes! She said she'll pick me up after work!"
Rebecca was caught off guard by the display of affection!
Amara went downstairs, intending to hail a cab, when she saw a black Range Rover parked at the company entrance.
Amara quickly walked over. Landon nodded towards the passenger seat, and she immediately got in. The car started right away.
Landon asked calmly, "Where to?"
Amara said, "The Hawkins Group! Mr. Carter, when did you get here?"
Landon, holding the steering wheel, focused on the road ahead. After a long time, he said softly, "I've been here for a few days. Are you meeting Kingsley about Caitlyn?"
Amara vaguely said, "Yes."
Landon didn't ask further. He drove Amara to the Hawkins Group. As she was about to get out, he handed her a manila envelope. "Take a look."
Amara opened it and found project documents. She was stunned. "Mr. Carter, have you been working on this these past few days?"
Landon lit a cigarette and said, "It's all finalized. You just need to liaise with the other party. Don't let Caitlyn know I helped! Completing this project will get the Robinson Group out of debt."
Amara skimmed through the documents. Then she looked up. "The project is good, but the Robinson Group doesn't have the money! The startup capital alone is in the billions. Where will Caitlyn get that kind of money?"
Landon exhaled smoke. "Don't worry about that. She'll find a way."
Amara guessed that Kingsley was the solution.
Landon said indifferently, "She doesn't want my help! Amara, you're the person I trust most. Don't let me down!"
Amara felt a bit sad. Having worked under Landon for many years, she understood him somewhat. He must be regretting now!
But life didn't allow for regrets.
Landon gave a few more instructions. "Alright! Go on up, or Kingsley will get jealous! Amara, I'm heading back to Bostan later. Call me if you need anything."
Amara held the manila envelope for a long time before nodding and getting out of the car. She stood there, watching the car drive away.
Amara was feeling a bit emotional when a tall figure stood beside her, speaking in a slightly cool tone. "So reluctant to part? Why not go back to Bostan with him?"
Amara snapped back to reality. She looked at Kingsley, long used to his sarcastic manner.
Kingsley didn't let her off. "Didn't your car break down? Mr. Carter's car isn't comfortable?"
Over the years, Amara had learned how to placate him. She slightly tilted her head and said softly, "Not as comfortable as your car!"
Kingsley looked at her.
After a while, he leaned in and whispered in her ear at the busy company entrance, "You look really horny."
Amara called him rude.
Kingsley walked to his black Phantom, opened the door for her, and snorted, "But you indulge yourself. Want me to remind you, Ms. Butler?"
Thinking about Hazel, Amara decided to be more accommodating.
She sat beside him and asked softly, "Dinner out or at home?"
Kingsley, one hand on the steering wheel, looked at her and then chuckled. "For such a small matter, you'd even agree to make love with me now! But Ms. Butler, are you asking me for a favor or asking to make love?"
Amara blushed. She sat up straight, bit her lip, and said, "Let's go home!"
After speaking, he just gently touched her face and asked very tenderly, "Amara, do you consider that our home?"
Amara couldn't answer.
He wanted a commitment to marriage, to being together forever.
Amara said softly, "What about you? What do you think?"
Kingsley's fingers still gently touched her face. "I want to know what you think! Amara, I'm not in a hurry!"
He leaned closer. "I'm afraid you're in a hurry! You seem to want it."
Amara finally got annoyed. "Kingsley!"
He laughed, touching her face with his large hand. "You look cute when you're angry!" Then he started the car.
But he didn't drive towards the villa; instead, he went to his old apartment.
At the apartment, Amara thought he might ask her to cook lamb chops or something. But she didn't expect Kingsley to make love to her directly!
As soon as they entered, he pinned her against the door, kissing her and panting. "Do you know why I didn't make love to you at the villa?"
