Chapter 49 He was on Purpose!

Although Frederick was teasing, he readily agreed.

"I knew you would help him, Frederick," Chloe said, trying to ease the tension between him and Ethan. She always felt something was off between the two, though she couldn't pinpoint why.

Ethan was set to become the Hawkins family's son-in-law. The Hawkins Group was several times larger than the Cooper Group, and in terms of connections, the Cooper family couldn't compare to the Hawkins family.

Charlotte wasn't enough to make him fall out with Frederick.

He politely said, "Thank you, Frederick."

Frederick gave a faint smile.

He picked up a magazine and casually flipped through it, his attitude remaining indifferent despite Chloe's attempts to play spoiled to him.

At 4:30 PM, Frederick stood up and said, "I have something to do, so I'll head out."

Patrick and Laura, happy to see Frederick, naturally wanted him to stay for dinner.

"Next time! I really have something to do." Frederick patted Chloe's head. As soon as he left, Ethan also said he wouldn't stay for dinner.

Chloe, not wanting him to feel awkward, found an excuse for him and walked him to his car, saying tenderly, "Don't mind him. Frederick is always like this, not very warm to anyone."

Ethan scoffed inwardly. 'Not warm to anyone? Then what about Charlotte?'

He didn't say more and got into his car, following Frederick's car from a distance.

Behind the wheel, Frederick glanced in the rearview mirror, spotting Ethan's car.

He smiled but didn't try to shake him off, driving at a steady pace to ensure Ethan could follow.

Half an hour later, he picked up Charlotte.

Charlotte seemed to have met William, as her eyes were noticeably red when she got into the car.

Frederick wasn't usually attentive, especially towards women, but he gently asked, "Why are you crying after meeting him? Do your eyes hurt?"

"I didn't cry," Charlotte denied.

Frederick chuckled softly and leaned in to whisper, "Or are you crying because you're afraid I'll intimate with you? I haven't even started yet, and you're like this?"

Charlotte turned her face away.

Frederick smiled. As he started the car, he glanced in the rearview mirror.

Ethan really had patience; he was still following!

It was rush hour, and the road was a bit congested.

While waiting at a red light, Frederick casually asked about William, and Charlotte told him everything.

"Such a small suitcase, did you bring everything?" Frederick suddenly asked.

Charlotte thought for a moment, "You don't have women's slippers at your place. I want to buy a pair."

Frederick acknowledged.

He rolled down the window, lit a cigarette, and rested his elbow on the window ledge, making sure the car behind could see.

Traffic moved slowly, and it took another half hour to get near the apartment.

Frederick parked the car by the roadside.

He unbuckled his seatbelt and turned to Charlotte, "There's a home goods store across the street. Go pick out whatever you need. I'm going to the pharmacy across the street to buy some medicine."

As he spoke, he pulled out a card from his wallet and gave Charlotte the PIN.

"From now on, use this for your purchases."

Charlotte hesitated but didn't refuse. She got out and walked into the home goods store, unaware that it was a frequent spot for residents of Frederick's building. She would eventually run into neighbors if she shopped there often.

Frederick finished his cigarette, opened the car door, and walked to the pharmacy.

He went straight to the counter and picked up two small rectangular boxes.

They were labeled size L.

Holding them, he naturally pulled out a $100 bill from his wallet and handed it to the cashier.

The cashier, a woman in her 40s, was stunned when she looked up. As she took the money, she was filled with longing, wishing Frederick would use both boxes of the product on her.
