Chapter 854 His Haven, So Delicate 2

Grant asked, but Haven stayed silent.

Her tiny fingers clung to the hem of Grant's shirt, her little face showing clear signs of dependence. It was obvious she missed him.

Grant felt a lump in his throat.

He gently hugged her, feeling her warm body like a soothing stream that melted his heart. In that moment, he was grateful for her presence.

Haven wiped her nose on his shirt.

She asked, a bit petulantly, "Do you have a new baby now?"

Grant squatted down to her level, gently pinching her red little nose, and said softly, "In a few months, the new baby will come out of Nancy's tummy, but you, Haven, are the first baby."

Haven blinked at him.

After a long pause, she finally asked, "How many babies do you have?"

Grant chuckled.

He kissed Haven and said, "Right now, just you, and one more on the way."

Haven mumbled something about being hungry, rubbing her little tummy.

She said she didn't want to go to the usual place to eat; she wanted to go to a place called Baby Bear Breakfast Shop, which she had only been to once but loved.

Grant got into the driver's seat.

He started to locate Baby Bear Breakfast Shop, and it turned out there was one nearby, close to the Devereux Group.

It must have been Gavin who took her there.

Grant set up the navigation and, as he started the car, turned to look at the back seat.

He wanted to say something but found Haven staring at him with her big, blinking eyes.

Her little face and similar features made him momentarily lost in thought.

After a while, he said hoarsely, "Daddy will take you there now."

Haven counted on her little fingers.

Grant smiled gently, started the car, and when they arrived at the restaurant, he parked and carried her inside, not letting her walk.

The place was indeed very child-friendly, with all the booths designed like Baby Bears, making the kids sitting in them look even cuter.

Grant ordered a kid's meal for her.

It included mashed potatoes and other kid-friendly foods, along with a bowl of creamy white soup.

Grant wanted to feed her, but Haven insisted on eating by herself.

Despite being so young, she ate surprisingly neatly, not getting a drop of soup on her bib or her little mouth.

Grant watched quietly.

His heart felt soft.

He thought, the Devereux family had taken good care of Haven, and he was very grateful for Gavin's help. Without it, Natalie would never have had it so easy...

Thinking of her, Grant's expression turned somber.

Haven asked in her childish voice, "Are you thinking about Mommy?"

Grant chuckled.

After a moment, he gently patted Haven's head and said softly, "I was just thinking about the past. You are as cute as your mommy!"

Haven nuzzled his palm, knowing she was cute.

Gavin praised her cuteness every day.

Just then, Gavin arrived, having received the location Grant sent him.

Seeing him, Haven sweetly called out, "Uncle Gavin," and reached for him to hold her...

Grant wiped her little mouth and picked her up, reluctant to let go.

Gavin, with his sharp features, asked, "This project will take two months. Is everything at home arranged? I heard you recently got a new brother?"

Grant felt a bit awkward, thinking, 'Nancy's father was very proud, and now that he's gone, his secrets are out for the world to know, even Gavin knows about Benjamin.'

He didn't hide it and nodded, "He's a pretty cute kid."

Gavin looked at him quietly.

He was two years older than Grant and had seen him and Natalie go through their ups and downs over the years.

Now they had gone their separate ways, with Natalie not yet accepting Clayton, and Grant having a new partner. Gavin could see that Grant was doing well recently.

It was tough, but his heart was at peace.

Gavin took Haven, gently stroking her hair, and said softly, "Since you've settled down, treat her well! Nancy is a good girl, always by your side!"

Grant nodded softly.

Gavin, controlling his emotions, looked at Grant seriously and said, "Well, Grant, I'll be waiting for you in Syeattel!"

They shook hands and said goodbye.

Grant kissed Haven's soft cheek one more time before reluctantly leaving.

This was probably the first time since Haven was born that they had been this close, and in this way...

As Grant got into the car, he turned to look back at the restaurant.

Gavin was holding Haven with one arm, and she was clinging to his neck, seemingly being affectionate.

Gavin smiled.

Grant tilted his head back slightly, his Adam's apple bobbing, and finally chose to light a cigarette to ease his feelings...

At this moment, Haven meant more to him than just being his and Natalie's child; she was his child, a fact that could never be severed.

He thought of his wife Nancy at home and realized that fate had not treated him poorly.

******

Grant arrived in Copenhegan and was about to call to let them know he was safe; it was afternoon at that time.

Octavia had picked up Benjamin from school.

Nancy had prepared a plate of fruit and a small plate of cooked steak for Benjamin. He was at the age where he was growing, and he ate heartily.

Octavia laughed, saying that kids his age could eat a whole cow.

Benjamin's face flushed, "I can't eat that much!"

Nancy said gently, "It's just a metaphor."

Benjamin's eyes reddened with emotion, though he was too shy to show it openly. His mood improved, and he did his homework much faster.

Nancy checked his homework, being stricter with him than Grant.

Just then, her phone rang.

Benjamin breathed a sigh of relief, watching her talk to Grant and carefully eavesdropping... Kids always have a sense of insecurity.

Suddenly, Nancy looked at him and then whispered into the phone, "He's doing well! Eating a lot!"

The person on the other end seemed to laugh.

With a child around, Nancy spoke cautiously, avoiding any intimate conversation between husband and wife.

After hanging up, she turned strict again, "You shouldn't have gotten this problem wrong."

Benjamin gripped his pencil, looked at her, and obediently went back to his homework.

He was very well-behaved, almost not needing any care... which was actually quite sad. A child who can read the room so well must be living with a lot of insecurity.

At night, after Nancy had fallen asleep, Octavia suddenly came to wake her.

"Mrs. McCall, Benjamin seems to be having a nightmare. He's been calling for his mom."

Nancy, half-asleep, quickly threw on a robe and went to check. Sure enough, Benjamin was having a nightmare...

His forehead was covered in sweat, and he kept calling for his mom. When she touched his forehead, it was burning hot.

He had a fever.

Octavia was at a loss and suggested, "Should we call Mr. McCall back?"

Nancy immediately said, "He just got to Copenhegan, how can he come back! Call the doctor, and if that doesn't work, we'll take him to the hospital right away."
