Chapter 481 She Really Left, Took Nothing with Her!
Zack drove in silence, not daring to say a word, even though Molly looked like a mess. Gavin sat in the back, his face dark and brooding.
Gavin could see Molly's figure in the rearview mirror. She stood barefoot in the night, looking so lonely. Even before, when she was a bit stubborn and got herself cold, he'd feel bad for her. But now, he'd completely shut her out.
Molly was crying. Maybe she was still blaming herself, wondering what she did wrong to make him leave.
Gavin lowered his eyes and gave a bitter smile. He never planned on keeping her around anyway.
The next second, a loud bang echoed as his fist slammed into the bulletproof window, making Zack jump and stop the car, stunned.
Gavin's fist was a bloody mess. He looked really upset.
Zack said, "How about we head back to the apartment? We should have some medicine there!"
Gavin looked up at him and asked out of nowhere, "What kind of guy do you think she'll end up with?"
Zack had no clue and didn't dare to guess. He silently pulled out some gauze to wrap Gavin's hand and then suggested taking him to the hospital.
But Gavin shrugged it off, "It's just a scratch. Take me back to the villa."
Zack hesitated but then got back in the car without a word.
Half an hour later, they pulled up to a big villa.
Gavin got out, his tall, lean frame looking even more imposing in the night, with those broad shoulders and narrow waist. Just looking at him was something else.
The servants were surprised to see him. Why was Gavin back at this hour?
One of them wanted to ask if he wanted something to eat, but Gavin just waved them off.
He went upstairs alone and flopped onto the soft bed. As soon as he closed his eyes, all he could see was Molly, abandoned and crying.
Late at night, Gavin drifted off, only to wake up to the sound of light rain outside.
He sat up suddenly, staring blankly at the dark night outside, the only light a faint white on the horizon, which looked eerie.
Gavin's throat tightened. He wished she'd just take the money and leave! He didn't want any more ties with her. But he couldn't sleep anymore, so he decided to take a shower instead.
The warm steam in the bathroom washed over him but didn't calm his nerves. Gavin suddenly grabbed a towel, wrapped it around his waist, and stormed out.
Five minutes later, he was sitting in a sports car. In less than fifteen minutes, he stopped.
Gavin didn't get out right away. He sat there, looking through the windshield at the slender figure squatting by the roadside. She was still there, soaked and shivering from the cold.
Gavin lit a cigarette with trembling hands and smoked quietly.
His blue eyes watched her silently. He thought she'd give up and go back. But she was still there, so he opened the car door and got out.
Molly heard footsteps and looked up.
Her hair was completely wet, clinging to her body, as were her clothes. Raindrops hung from her long eyelashes.
When Molly saw Gavin, a flicker of hope flashed in her eyes, but it quickly faded. She looked at him with trembling lips, wanting to speak but unable to find the words.
Gavin looked down at her. He didn't hug her or speak gently. Since he decided to end things, he was going to do it right.
He told her to go back, but Molly didn't budge.
Gavin looked at her pale face, his throat tightening, his tone turning harsh, "Even if you squat here forever, I won't stay! Tell me, how much more do you want? As long as it's reasonable, I can give it to you."
Molly said, "I don't want your money!"
"Then stand up and leave me. From now on, just walk away when you see me, or you'll end up being toyed with by me. I'm giving you a heads-up now!" Saying that made Gavin's heart ache a little.
Molly looked up at him, but Gavin didn't soften. He just stared at her coldly.
After a long pause, Molly finally stood up, her body trembling as she straightened.
She didn't look at Gavin again, lowering her eyes and saying softly, "Fine! I'll move out in the next two days. I don't want the house or the money! I won't bother you anymore."
Gavin clenched his fists tightly.
Molly didn't say goodbye. She slowly walked into the apartment building, disappearing from his sight.
Gavin lit a cigarette by the roadside and smoked slowly. Even if they were done, he wanted to make sure she was safe.
After smoking half a pack, a black Range Rover sped over, screeching to a stop downstairs.
The car door opened, and a pair of long legs stepped out. Gavin recognized him as Molly's agent, Clayton Percy. A 30-year-old industry hotshot with a bad temper.
Clayton naturally recognized him too. He kicked the car door shut and glared at Gavin but eventually went upstairs.
Gavin guessed Clayton was there to see Molly.
At that moment, his feelings were all over the place, and he smiled bitterly. After all, he and Molly were done; her life was no longer his business.
The sky was starting to lighten, and the rain had long stopped. Later, Molly came out with Clayton, who was carrying a small luggage bag. The three of them exchanged glances, creating a tense atmosphere.
Clayton opened the car door and helped Molly in. Then he walked over to Gavin. He was a good-looking guy, exuding a rugged masculinity, looking tough.
Gavin faced him directly.
Clayton said with a fake smile, "Gavin, I've heard a lot about you! Molly doesn't know who you are, but I do. It's really a pity that you had to hide your identity to date Molly for a year. Since you broke up, don't bother Molly anymore! I think a young talent like you won't lack women. If you change your mind and bother her again, I will definitely beat you up."
Gavin said, "That's better!"
Clayton nodded, glared at him again, and walked away.
The black Range Rover left quickly, so fast that Gavin didn't get to see Molly one last time.
Gavin could tell that Clayton liked Molly. Knowing she had someone to care for her, he felt a bit relieved.
Gavin tilted his head slightly, thought for a moment, and then went upstairs.
Opening the apartment door, everything was still as neat as when he left. Molly only took her clothes and a few important design drafts from her studio.
Gavin walked into the master bedroom and saw a black men's shirt spread out on the bed—the one she loved to wear the most. Sometimes, when he was working in the study, she'd put on that shirt and sit on his lap, begging him to keep her company. But those moments were rare.
Most of the time, she was quiet and busy with her own stuff. She was actually really easy to take care of. A small gift could make her day. She almost never asked him for anything, never pried into his income. She even paid for a lot of the expenses here herself; she must have really thought of this place as her home.
Gavin slowly sat down as his phone rang in his pocket. He instinctively thought it was Molly; at this hour, it could only be her. But the call was from Andrew.
Andrew must have just woken up, his voice a bit hoarse, "Chloe is arriving in Syeattel a day early. She needs to go to the hospital to get her medication. Can you accompany her?"
Gavin replied numbly, "I got it, Dad. Send me the flight number, and I'll pick her up."
Soon, Gavin was ready to leave. As he walked out, he called Aria to deal with the apartment.
After hanging up, he was about to leave when his eyes fell on the nightstand, where the small velvet box was placed. Gavin walked over, picked it up, and opened it. A pink diamond necklace lay inside, dazzling. It was a birthday gift he had given Molly, and she hadn't taken it with her.
Gavin stared at it for a long time. Suddenly, he called Aria again, "Leave the apartment as it is for now!" After saying that, he put down the velvet box and quickly walked out of the apartment.
Sitting in the car, the sky was already bright, and his eyes stung badly. He gripped the steering wheel and lightly pressed the gas pedal. At 2 PM, he picked up Chloe from the airport. Aria went with him; she has a sweet tongue, and Chloe quite liked her.
Sitting in the car, Chloe looked at Gavin. "You look thinner! Have you been very busy with work lately? I heard from Andrew that you're doing well."
Gavin forced a smile, "A bit busy."
Chloe hesitated and then brought up the Hughes Family marriage proposal, which she wasn't very supportive of.
After all, she had some entanglements with Maurice back in the day, and it would be inevitable to have interactions if they became in-laws in the future. She was concerned about these things, but Andrew was not.
Gavin said softly, "Let's talk about it after we meet."
Chloe patted his hand lightly, "Make your own decisions!"
Gavin didn't say much.
Fortunately, Aria was there to liven up the atmosphere, even suggesting taking Chloe to try some Syeattel dishes.
Chloe was easygoing, "Did you forget I'm from Syeattel?"
Aria looked surprised. It was just a way to please her!
At the hospital, Aria waited in the car while Gavin took Chloe inside.
The doctor prescribed medication. With the prescription in hand, Chloe and Gavin walked and talked. Chloe then noticed Gavin's injured hand.
She was about to ask when Gavin's gaze fell on the corridor ahead.
With the change of seasons and the rain last night, the hospital's infusion room was particularly crowded. Many patients couldn't find seats inside and were sitting in the corridor for their IVs. Then Gavin saw Molly, who looked pale and was covered with a thick coat. Sitting next to her was Clayton. Molly was asleep, her head resting on Clayton's shoulder. Clayton gently held her with one hand, looking down at her tenderly.
Gavin's hand clenched quietly, but he didn't stop and walked straight past.
Clayton noticed him but said nothing.
After walking some distance and turning the corner, Gavin's fist finally relaxed.
Chloe and Gavin both remained silent. After a long time, Chloe said, "I think I just saw that child!" Because of her unresolved feelings, she rarely mentioned Molly by name, always referring to her as "that child."
Gavin's hand was in his pocket.
After a while, he smiled indifferently, "Really? I didn't notice."
After getting the medication, Chloe brought up Molly again, "I heard from Amanda that she became a designer and even won an award." She suddenly felt a bit emotional, "That's great!"
Gavin didn't respond. He took Chloe to the car and instructed Aria to take her home.
Aria was a bit surprised, "You're not coming back?"
Gavin said calmly, "I have some work at the office. I'll join you for dinner later." After saying that, he leaned in and kissed Chloe on the cheek.
Chloe was happy. But she couldn't help but say, "It would be great if you used this affection to find a girlfriend. You're 26 and haven't had a serious relationship yet. In this regard, you're not as good as Andrew."
Gavin chuckled, "I'm far worse than him!"
Chloe gently touched his face, "It's all in the past. Are you still holding onto it? Andrew wouldn't be happy to hear that!"
Gavin smiled faintly and closed the car door for her.
The black car slowly drove away, and the smile on his face faded completely.
He couldn't explain this oppressive feeling, nor could he explain why seeing Clayton by her side made him so unhappy.
Gavin frowned slightly and looked back at the hospital building. He restrained himself from going over and instead got into another car, "To the office!"
By the time he finished his work, it was already 8 PM. Chloe had called twice, but he didn't want to go home. He needed to be alone.
Driving through the night streets, Gavin wandered aimlessly for a long time.
An hour later, his car stopped near a small villa, Clayton's residence. With Gavin's status and power, finding someone's address was easy.
The small villa emitted a warm orange light. It looked very cozy. The white-fenced yard, well-manicured lawn, and a pretty pink doghouse at the entrance, housing a Labrador.
Gavin sat in the car, watching from a distance. He knew Molly was temporarily staying here with Clayton, who was just her agent, but Gavin couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy.
The villa door opened. Molly walked out with the dog, still wearing Clayton's coat, but underneath, she only wore capri pants, looking particularly slender.
She petted the dog, letting it go back to its little house to sleep. The big dog liked her very much, licking her hand and acting cute.
Gavin saw Molly gently squat down, slowly hugging the dog's neck, just holding it silently. He remembered when they lived together; she had mentioned wanting to live in a small villa with a dog to keep her company when he wasn't around. Now she had a dog, but it was with another man! Could she be content living with anyone who offered her stability, even if that person wasn't him?
