Chapter 728 Lola, We Have Another Child Again 2

From that day on, Lola stopped talking to him.

During the day, she was almost always with Angelina. At night, she had no choice but to face Johnny. He knew she was mad, and he was scared of pushing her too far, so he didn't force it. Sometimes, he wanted to hold her, but Lola's reactions were intense, completely rejecting his closeness.

Her gaze towards him had lost all warmth.

That look made Johnny feel like he was wrong, but when he was alone, he felt he wasn't. If he was wrong, why would Lola still be by his side?

He eagerly anticipated the birth of their child.

He thought, the arrival of a new life would surely bring Lola some joy.

The next month, they moved again. Johnny took Lola and Angelina to Sunset City, to another luxurious mansion, fully equipped with security personnel and professional doctors.

It seemed Johnny planned to stay here until the baby was born.

In the evening, the sky was filled with the colors of the sunset, and flocks of blackbirds flew south.

Lola stood alone by the floor-to-ceiling window, the evening breeze lifting her long dress, creating a beautiful scene. All her clothes and daily necessities were arranged by Johnny, as were Angelina's. This place felt like a golden cage he had meticulously crafted—comfortable but suffocating.

Lola often missed the old days.

Sometimes she thought of Johnny, but she preferred to remember the good times, not what came later... She sometimes wondered, if he had married that girlfriend he brought back from abroad or just married Melissa, would things have turned out differently? Would she still be the old Lola, living a good life?

The sound of a car came from outside.

Johnny was back with Angelina. Lately, he had been taking Angelina to the hospital, and considering Lola's condition, he didn't let her go along, being so considerate it was touching.

Lola heard footsteps on the stairs, and soon, Angelina came running in.

Angelina threw herself into Lola's arms.

Even after just half a day, Angelina missed her.

Lola crouched down, and despite her bad mood, she gently talked with Angelina for a while. Angelina, being very understanding, guessed that Lola had a baby in her belly. She wasn't as excited as before but was very considerate of Lola's condition. After a while, she went back to her room to do her homework.

The door closed, then opened again, and Johnny walked in.

He came to the sofa, crouched in front of her, and reached out to touch her belly.

Lola pulled away.

Johnny didn't mind, and softly said, "Today, the doctor said there's hope for Angelina's treatment. You don't need to worry anymore!"

Lola looked at him and finally spoke, "What did the doctor say?"

Johnny gave a bitter smile, "Is it true that besides Angelina, you don't care about anything else? Not even the baby in your belly? You don't want her, do you?"

Lola didn't answer.

She refused to communicate, and though Johnny felt disappointed, he didn't want to argue. He repeated what the doctor said and then quietly added, "We might have to stay here for a long time."

It was dangerous, they could be found at any time.

But with a glimmer of hope for Angelina's hearing, Johnny didn't want to give up.

Lola's wrist dropped.

She quietly looked in that direction, not speaking again. Johnny softly said, "I had the cook make your favorite dish. Come downstairs and eat a little, okay?"

Since getting pregnant, Lola had been eating very little.

She didn't have morning sickness, just no appetite, and Johnny was always trying to get her to eat something.

After he finished speaking, he stood up and tried to pull her up. Suddenly, she grabbed his hand. The soft touch made him incredulous. Johnny's body stiffened slightly, and after a long moment, he slowly turned to look at her.

When he spoke, his voice was very hoarse, "Lola?"

It had been so long since she had touched him voluntarily. At that moment, Johnny's eyes were wet.

Lola didn't let go.

She even tightened her grip, the contact of skin and flesh making it feel like the old days... Bobby's shout from downstairs brought them back to reality.

Lola looked up at him and softly said, "Johnny, you might keep me here for a year or two with this baby, but do you think you can keep me here forever? You know I will leave you eventually, don't you?"

Johnny listened to her words, feeling like he was in another world.

Yes, he had always known. He couldn't keep Lola forever. One day, she would leave.

But...

Johnny gave a bleak smile. He took a few steps back and gently touched her face, and she didn't avoid it. This was probably the warmest moment they had shared in a year.

His voice was hoarse as he said, "One year is one year, two years is two years. Lola... I guess I've gotten used to it. I can't imagine life without you. If you hadn't brought me home back then, maybe your life would have been better, more carefree. But what about me, Lola? You brought me home, and whether I'm good or bad... I don't want to let you go!"

After he finished speaking, there was a glimmer in his eyes.

He didn't let Lola see it. He suddenly turned and walked out.

Lola knew he was crying.

Because of the baby, Johnny didn't touch Lola again. Lola refused to have the baby, she didn't cooperate, her appetite worsened, and she grew thinner. She often sat by the floor-to-ceiling window, staring into the distance.

She still wouldn't talk to Johnny after that day.

Angelina said Lola was homesick.

In December, the weather in Sunset City was still pleasantly cool.

That day, Johnny took Angelina to the countryside to collect maple leaves. There were no maple trees here, but he wanted to make a scrapbook for Lola.

The black SUV returned to the mansion at 3:30 PM. Angelina carried a small bag full of red maple leaves, bouncing as she wanted to show them to Lola. She had also caught two butterflies for Lola.

The mansion was quiet.

The servants were probably slacking off, not a single one in sight. In the vast space, only Angelina's light footsteps could be heard. Before reaching upstairs, she softly called, "Mom... Mom!"

There was no response from the second floor.

Angelina thought it was like usual, with Lola daydreaming by the window. She carefully opened the door to the master bedroom and quietly ran to Lola's side, sneaking up to hug her.

Angelina tiptoed in.

She walked through the sitting room into the bedroom and stopped. She looked down at her little shoes, the soles still carrying some dirt from the countryside, but now that dirt was stained with crimson blood.

Angelina stared blankly for a few seconds.

After a while, she looked up at the white bed.

The bag of maple leaves fell from her hand, and the butterflies she caught to cheer Lola up flew away. She saw Lola lying quietly on the bed, a deep cut on her wrist, blood dripping.

One drop, two drops... falling on the dark carpet.

Angelina unconsciously called out, "Dad... Dad..." Her voice grew louder, tinged with sobs.

When Johnny rushed in, his face turned pale instantly.

He was so tense he seemed to forget how to breathe.
