Chapter 310 He Fell in Love with Her Twice

So, it's six in the evening, and the place is buzzing with folks clocking out at Vertex Innovations Group.

Frederick's just chilling in the lobby, hands behind his back, looking all mysterious.

He flashes a faint smile.

Right then, Charlotte steps out of the elevator with Jenna tagging along.

She spots Frederick, does a double-take, and strolls over, whispering, "What are you doing here?"

Frederick locks eyes with her.

After a beat, he goes, "It's Lola's birthday. Did you forget?"

He grabs the coat from Jenna and guides Charlotte to the parking lot. Yep, he's still rolling in the Cullinan.

Charlotte hops in the passenger seat, thinking for a sec. "How about we have dinner with Patric, Laura, and Chloe?"

Frederick clicks his seatbelt. "Another time! I promised Lola we'd make a birthday cake together."

The car crawls through the rush hour traffic.

He glances at the road and casually asks, "Why'd you leave early that day?"

"I had stuff to do!" Charlotte dodges the question a bit.

Frederick chuckles.

After a while, he shamelessly says, "I wanted to make it up to you in the morning, but you were gone. I just lay there half the day, feeling pretty crappy."

Charlotte's at a loss for words. Her cheeks turn a cute shade of red.

Frederick sneaks a few glances at her, thinking she's the kind of woman any guy would want to marry.

Maria had already shown up at the villa and was in the kitchen with Lola, cooking up a storm.

Charlotte's pleasantly surprised and rushes over to hug Maria. "Mom!"

Maria gives Frederick a knowing look and smiles, "Frederick had someone bring me here! It's Lola's birthday, and the whole family should celebrate together."

Charlotte gets the hint.

She nods, heads upstairs to change, and comes back down to whip up a cake for Lola.

She's pretty good at this stuff and quickly gets the mold ready and pops it in the oven. When the cake's done, Lola insists on decorating it herself.

Lola draws two adults and three kids.

Charlotte playfully asks, "Why's there an extra kid?"

Lola gets a bit shy, runs into the living room, and jumps into Frederick's arms.

Frederick's watching Kingsley. He holds Lola and asks, "What's up?"

Lola stays quiet.

But kids are forgetful, and soon enough, Lola's holding the cake and giving Kingsley a lesson on how to get along with Johnny.

Frederick got up and strolled into the kitchen, shutting the door behind him. "Where's Mom?"

Charlotte was frying up some steak and said softly, "I made an extra cake; she went to give it to the kids next door."

Frederick found her super gentle. So, he wrapped an arm around her slim waist and said, a bit impatiently, "You're always thinking about others, but you never ask what I wanna eat."

Charlotte paused.

After a moment, she gently pulled away and whispered, "What nonsense are you talking about?"

Frederick grumbled, "Ms. Russell, stop pretending to be all proper!"

Charlotte found it hard to resist. But she always felt it was inappropriate, so she bolted after that night, almost losing control.

Just as she was about to say something, the kitchen door swung open.

Maria stood there, a bit stunned. "Charlotte, the steak is burning!"

Charlotte was super embarrassed.

Frederick noticed her thin skin and took the pan, quickly washing it.

He grabbed two more pieces of beef from the fridge and handed them to Charlotte, saying gently, "I'll watch you cook! In the future, I'll make it for you and the kids!"

Charlotte silently continued cooking.

Maria went out again.

Frederick gently hugged her slim waist from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder. He didn't push it too far, just lightly embraced her, his actions gentle enough to show he cared.

After a long while, he whispered, "Charlotte, I'll be good to you!"

Charlotte turned around in his arms, looking at him, her voice soft and gentle. "Frederick, have you really remembered?"

Frederick didn't answer, leaning in to kiss her.

Charlotte hadn't felt this way in a long time.

Her lips trembled slightly, responding to him with a bit of shyness.

He was still the same as before, not letting her close her eyes, wanting her to see how he kissed her. They kissed for quite a while, both becoming a bit of a mess.

Frederick pressed his forehead against hers, murmuring, "Charlotte, I have no issues down there at all. I'm erect."

He was always afraid she would overthink that he was impotent.

Charlotte blushed and pushed him away.

Frederick leaned against the kitchen window and smoked a cigarette before saying, "I'll go check on the kids!"

Charlotte brought the food out.

Frederick was holding Kingsley, feeding him milk.

"The doc said he needs to lose weight." Frederick held his son, his eyes very gentle. "We'll take him for a check-up in a few days."

Charlotte nodded.

Frederick finished feeding his son, plopped him in the crib, and quickly changed his diaper.

After dinner, they got the kids settled.

Charlotte walked Frederick out.

Late at night, they strolled side by side on the villa's path, a touch of romance in the air.

Frederick held Charlotte's hand and softly said, "Lola used to bathe herself. Why've you started helping her again? Charlotte, kids need to learn to be independent."

Though he was bringing it up, there was no blame in his tone, just gentle concern. Like any husband talking to his wife.

Charlotte whispered, "She's been a bit clingy lately."

Frederick gazed at her.

The surroundings were dim, making it hard to see each other clearly.

But there were tears sparkling in Charlotte's eyes.

Frederick stepped closer and gently caressed her face. "Charlotte, is it because of my lost of memory?"

Charlotte's lips trembled slightly, but she said nothing, turning her face away. "You should go back! Drive safe!"

Frederick gently embraced her.

He didn't say anything, just held her like that.

At that moment, he deeply wished he could bring happiness to Charlotte!

After holding her for a long time, he softly said, "Go back inside!"

Charlotte nodded.

But neither of them moved. In the end, he couldn't resist kissing her under the tree. They both got a bit aroused, and he slipped his hand under her dress, giving her a brief moment of pleasure.

The night was enchanting.

Frederick drove away slowly, heading back to Hawkins Mansion, where he sat quietly in the hall, lost in thought.

He thought about Charlotte.

His mind was filled with her.

Later, he started going to Charlotte's place almost every night, mostly to spend time with the kids.

Occasionally, he would share a kiss with her.

But he never stayed the night. Charlotte never mentioned it, and he didn't seem to be in a hurry either. He actually enjoyed this gentle companionship.

Frederick enjoyed this kind of relationship, but he also felt regretful that he hadn't regained his memory.

He felt he owed Charlotte something.

Just as his thoughts were all over the place, Andrew called.

Frederick answered, "Andrew!"

Andrew's voice was deep in the night. "Frederick, we have preliminary evidence against Dennis. He's been taken to the police station, but given his status, he'll be bailed out soon. However, we will quickly prosecute him."

Frederick pressed his lips tightly.

Dennis had been making a fortune using illegal substances.

Frederick was one of the victims, but that guy did it to get back at him.

Andrew's voice got even deeper. "Frederick, don't sweat it. He won't slip away this time!"

Frederick just hummed in response.

He hung up, gently pressed the gas pedal, and left Charlotte's villa.

As soon as the car exited the villa gate and turned a corner, a slender figure darted out in front.

The black sports car screeched to a halt.

Frederick broke into a cold sweat, looking up to see it was Brenda!

Frederick's gaze shifted to her abdomen.

Her once flat stomach was now slightly rounded, indicating she was about two or three months pregnant.

Frederick opened the car door and got out.

Brenda's face was pale, her lips trembling. "Mr. Hawkins, please help me! Dennis knows I betrayed him; he will definitely kill me! I'm pregnant, but I've been under his control for a long time. I have to take abortion pills. Mr. Hawkins, please help me! If I lose this child, I'll never have another chance to be a mom!"

Brenda slowly knelt down.

Frederick lit a cigarette, the smoke rising and dispersing into the night sky.

His tone was cold. "We agreed on two million dollars, and you would get me the evidence!"

"I know!" Brenda pleaded. "But I didn't expect him to be bailed out. Once he's out, he'll definitely come after me. Mr. Hawkins, I'm begging you, help me one last time. I promise to stay far away and never appear in front of Mrs. Hawkins again!"

She clutched her abdomen. "I just want to keep this child!"

After a while, Frederick asked softly, "Whose child is it?"

Brenda was stunned, taking a long time to respond, "I don't know!"

Frederick looked at her bewildered expression.

That face was so similar to Katherine's, but Katherine was always beautiful and flamboyant, while Brenda had always lived in the shadows, looking very haggard.

After finishing his cigarette, Frederick finally spoke, "Go to Bostan! Someone will arrange everything for you—house, hospital, and delivery. I have only one condition: never return to Syeattel and appear in front of Charlotte."

Frederick reached into the car and handed her a business card of his right-hand assistant.

Brenda's voice trembled. "I promise!"

Frederick got back into the car and slowly drove away.

He drove back to the villa, where Charlotte was sleeping soundly.

He initially wanted to hold her, but decided to take a shower first before getting into bed to hold her.

Charlotte was half-awake. She leaned against his chest and softly said, "I haven't given you permission to come up yet."
