Chapter 884 Wearing the Same Outfit at the Banquet, Whoever is Ugly is Embarrassed!
Before they knew it, Raymond's birthday had arrived.
The Taylor family mansion was decked out with lights and decorations.
Raymond, being quite traditional, preferred old-fashioned ways, and even the mansion had a medieval style, resembling a castle from the past.
However, the ballroom was modern, with the best band and female singer in the city performing popular songs, making the atmosphere lively and festive.
Raymond was surrounded by family and friends.
Looking at his children and grandchildren, he chuckled, "We can't just cater to my tastes; we need to create a romantic atmosphere for the young people too! Tonight's vibe is just perfect!"
He then turned to his eldest grandson, Bruce. "Bruce, there are so many lovely young ladies here tonight. Don't be shy. If you see someone you like, go for it! If their parents don't approve, I'll step in and vouch for you!"
Raymond clearly didn't know about Freya.
Bruce's parents exchanged complicated looks.
They didn't like Freya's background, and they had their own concerns.
The Taylor family had only a few heirs, and Bruce was the most outstanding of his generation. Marrying a waitress would not only invite ridicule from outsiders but also lower their standing within the family.
Marcella was the first to object.
She looked at Bruce and said gently, "Your grandfather has spoken. You should be proactive! You're in your thirties now; others your age already have kids."
Bruce replied at the right moment, "Actually, there's someone I'd like you to meet."
Marcella nearly fainted!
She guessed it was Freya. She hadn't expected Bruce to be so insistent, bringing her to the party without Raymond's approval.
She lowered her voice, "Bruce! Are you trying to ruin your grandfather's mood and embarrass your parents today?"
Bruce frowned slightly. "Mom, I don't have any prejudices about social status."
Marcella was displeased. "Even if there's no match in status, there should be a match in spirit! You're a PhD student, and she's a waitress! You enjoy horseback riding, shooting, and music, while she likes eating kebabs at night. What you find interesting now will seem crude later! Bruce, a marriage of decades can't be sustained by novelty alone. There has to be love! Do you have love for that girl?"
Bruce didn't.
In fact, he had never felt love for Sienna either, only a feeling.
The same was true for Freya.
But his feelings for Freya leaned more towards family. He believed living with her would be simple and fulfilling. He didn't need a high-society lady as a wife, so he chose Freya.
Bruce considered his words carefully. "She's just a friend. I want Grandpa to meet her. Maybe he'll like her straightforwardness."
Marcella's face darkened, but she guessed Freya was already here.
She loved Bruce dearly and didn't want to strain their relationship.
Forcing a smile, she said, "Bruce, you know your father's rules! If you say she's just a friend, then she's just a friend. I can agree to her coming, but don't make things difficult for me!"
Bruce smiled slightly. "Mom, you'll like her!"
Marcella remained silent.
Bruce went to the parking lot to pick up Freya. On the way, he answered her call.
She was already in the car, growing impatient and a bit upset. As Bruce's girlfriend, she felt this was no way to be treated on her first visit.
Bruce tried to soothe Freya with a few words.
Just as he was about to open the car door, a black SUV pulled up nearby. Out stepped Jeremy from the Cook family, who then helped Sienna out of the car.
The blue floor-length gown Sienna wore was exactly as Bruce had imagined.
She looked stunning, like a rare orchid in a secluded valley.
Was Sienna dressed so elegantly to accompany Jeremy to the party?
Bruce felt a pang of discomfort but managed a forced smile as a greeting.
Jeremy had already guessed their relationship. He had asked Sienna about it, and she had said... she asked if he minded. If he did, they wouldn't continue seeing each other.
Jeremy, having studied abroad, wasn't exactly open-minded but understood that at their age, it was unlikely anyone hadn't dated before.
Sienna dating Bruce wasn't surprising.
He accepted it and decided to continue pursuing Sienna. They were now dating with marriage in mind, and their feelings were mutual.
Sienna smiled gracefully.
She linked arms with Jeremy, and they looked perfectly matched and intimate. Bruce tried to ignore his discomfort.
Just then, Freya got out of the car.
She immediately noticed something was off. They were wearing identical dresses!
Sienna paused for a moment but then didn't care. After all, whoever looked worse would be embarrassed.
Freya was stunned. It took her a while to process. "So that dress was yours! Miss Hawkins, Bruce is the star today. Isn't it inappropriate for us to wear the same dress?"
Sienna rested her pretty face on Jeremy's shoulder.
She smiled faintly. "What's inappropriate? We're not with the same man!"
Freya's face turned pale, feeling the sting of the remark.
Bruce apologized to Freya. "I didn't expect her to come to the party today! I'll have another dress sent over for you to change into."
Freya refused. "This is a custom dress! And we have to dance the opening dance!"
Bruce lowered his voice. "My parents will dance the opening dance."
Freya suppressed her dissatisfaction and whispered, "I still don't want to change. I look great in this dress, and it cost a lot."
Bruce said nothing more.
By now, he was losing patience. He even started to agree with Marcella. He and Freya weren't a good match.
If he were communicating with Sienna, it wouldn't be this difficult!
As he thought this, he saw Sienna smiling at Jeremy. "Jeremy, why are you blushing?"
Jeremy didn't respond.
He gently touched her face, not flirtatiously, but with genuine affection.
Bruce didn't want to watch anymore. He said to Freya, "Let's go. I'll introduce you to my mother."
Freya was visibly nervous.
She clung to Bruce's arm and whispered, "Don't leave me alone. I don't know anyone here."
Bruce forced a smile.
He brought her to Marcella, who happened to be with Raymond.
Bruce introduced her as a friend, but Freya, eager to secure her place and fearing Sienna would steal the spotlight, corrected Marcella. "Bruce and I are dating!"
Raymond looked at Freya, then at Marcella. "What did she say?"
Marcella disapproved, looking at Bruce. She didn't want to deal with it, so she said, "Dad, ask Bruce."
