Chapter 862 Natalie, When Will You Forgive Me?
In the evening, Natalie picked up Haven.
She didn't go into the hospital room. She always felt it was inappropriate to intrude on Nancy's world.
The child was the child, and she was herself... no need to add to Nancy's troubles.
Grant carried Haven out. He saw Natalie standing by the window at the end of the hallway, looking outside.
As he got closer, he realized it was snowing.
Grant handed Haven to her and said softly, "Let me drive you home. It's not safe to drive in the snow."
Natalie took Haven and replied naturally, "Our driver, Manuel, is here. It's no trouble."
Grant nodded.
He gently pinched Haven's cheek and looked up at Natalie. "Nancy and Benjamin really like her. During the Fireworks Festival, we'd love to have her stay with us for a few days. Is that okay?"
Natalie agreed without much thought.
Haven was thrilled and reached out to hug Grant, giving him a couple of kisses.
When she kissed Grant, Natalie was holding her, so they were quite close. This was probably the closest they had been in years.
To say there were no feelings at all would be a lie, but time had passed, and it was just a faint sentiment.
They were so young when they fell in love.
As Natalie was about to leave, Grant looked deeply at her. "And thank you."
Natalie didn't say anything, just gave a faint smile.
She left with Haven, the light at the end of the hospital hallway stretching her shadow long and thin...
Haven, so small and vibrant in her arms, was proof of their past love and hate.
Grant felt a pang in his nose. He was very grateful she had given birth to Haven.
She was so adorable!
On the way back, Grant had a lot on his mind, but Nancy didn't say anything.
Late at night, when the children were asleep, Nancy asked softly, "Thinking about her?"
Grant was startled.
He turned around from the floor-to-ceiling window and looked at Nancy's serene face under the light.
She smiled gently. "Everyone has a past. It's normal to have someone you liked, especially since you have a child together. It's hard to forget."
She spoke earnestly, and he didn't tease her.
He walked over and gently hugged her shoulders, letting her wrap her arms around his waist. They both enjoyed this quiet moment.
After a while, Nancy's voice came from his waist. "Grant, it's not that I don't care, but I've come to terms with it. I don't want to live like a resentful woman. I think you're a good husband and father... what you think about or who you think about, I can't control, and I don't want to."
Grant felt a softness in his heart.
He had almost never said words of affection to Nancy because they met when they were no longer young, and he always had someone in his heart.
But he knew he liked her.
He spoke softly, "Let's not talk about it anymore. It's all in the past."
Then he kissed her.
In the soft, yellow light, he held her face and kissed her, gently and tenderly...
They hadn't been close in a long time. Since she was hospitalized, they hadn't had any intimate moments.
A rare kiss made them both feel a surge of desire, a deep longing to possess each other, more profound than mere affection.
******
Haven had a long, happy day and was exhausted.
She fell asleep in the car.
Natalie covered her with a small blanket, worried she might catch a cold.
When they arrived at The Devereux Mansion, she instructed Manuel to park near the main house.
Manuel glanced in the rearview mirror and smiled. "She's sleeping so soundly!"
Natalie smiled too.
As the car stopped, Manuel was about to open the door and carry Haven out when someone beat him to it.
It was Clayton, whom Manuel recognized. "Mr. Percy? Weren't you in Syeattel? What brings you here?"
Clayton, because of his son Chance, had access to The Devereux Mansion.
Andrew and Chloe were fine with him, but Gavin was unpredictable.
Manuel greeted him while marveling at the sight.
In the cold weather, Clayton was only wearing a white shirt... Who was he trying to impress? But that physique was indeed impressive.
Manuel chuckled, and Clayton had already opened the car door.
Natalie wasn't surprised to see him. She asked calmly, "Where's Chance?"
Clayton picked up Haven and replied, "He's here too! Mom's with him."
Natalie adjusted her scarf and said coolly, "Don't go claiming family ties! We're not getting back together."
Clayton, holding Haven with one arm and covering her with the blanket, replied naturally, "I know, I only get through your door because of Chance. I'm just following his lead."
Natalie didn't bother arguing with him. She walked into the house, brushing off the light snow from her shoulders.
Inside, it was warm. She took off her coat and carried Haven to the bedroom.
It was the room she used to stay in, decorated like a dream. Clayton hadn't been here much.
They didn't spend much time together during their courtship and marriage. This was probably his second time here.
Natalie laid Haven on the bed.
Her thin wool dress accentuated her slender figure, and her profile was so gentle that Clayton couldn't help but feel moved, wanting to embrace her.
As she stood up, he wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, pressing against her curves.
He lowered his voice and asked softly, "What did you talk about with him today?"
Natalie knew he had followed her for this reason.
She pulled his hand away, not letting him touch her.
He hadn't touched her for the past six months, but now her refusal was clearly ineffective.
The stimulated man was frighteningly assertive... but he only hugged her, not daring to do anything more, knowing that if he did, she might not want to see him for a long time.
Clayton's voice was slightly hoarse. "Natalie, I'm really jealous."
Natalie felt a stir in her heart. She replied softly, "He's married with a child. What could I possibly have with him? Besides, I don't need to report anything to you. We have no relationship now."
After saying that, she broke free from him.
She said, "Don't do this again. It's not good if the family sees and misunderstands."
Clayton looked deeply into her eyes.
He said softly, "Natalie, it's been so long. When will you forgive me and be with me? I want to live with you and our child."
Natalie smiled faintly. She wasn't playing hard to get; she was sincere.
"I don't have the heart for it. Clayton, if you really feel lonely, you can find someone else to marry. You don't have to wait for me and make yourself miserable."
He didn't dare say anything more.
Pushing further would only lead to unpleasantness.
He said softly, "I'll listen to you. It's fine."
Natalie knew this was just Clayton's way of being adaptable.
After a while, he would say the same things again, wanting to live with her, to be a couple... Natalie didn't really think about forgiving him. She just didn't have the heart for it.
Physically and emotionally, she didn't.
She had become somewhat indifferent.
Chloe had taken her to see a doctor. The doctor said at her age, she shouldn't have signs of early menopause, but she did have irregular periods... which naturally made her feel nothing for Clayton.
