Chapter 186 Only He Can Make Her Cry
When Charlotte was leaving, she bumped into Frederick at the elevator. He was holding some documents, looking all business-like.
Frederick stepped out, and Charlotte got in.
Just as the door was closing, he stopped it.
He hadn't seen her in ages and missed her, but all he said was, "How have you been?"
Charlotte leaned against the wall, looking tired. After a pause, she replied, "Not bad."
Frederick's eyes were intense.
In a raspy voice, he asked, "I'm going to the celebration tonight too. Are you dancing with Oliver?"
Charlotte was taken aback.
She hadn't made any plans with Oliver, but if he showed up, dancing with him would be well-reasoned.
She didn't deny it.
Frederick didn't seem upset. Instead, he said softly, "Have fun."
Then he left.
Charlotte felt uneasy.
This version of Frederick scared her more than when he was clingy. His eyes said he hadn't given up, but he was acting all cool.
She almost didn't want to go to the party.
But as a prizewinner, she was the center of attention today, and people in Syeattel wouldn't let her skip it. After a few calls urging her, she had to go.
The party was on the 32nd floor of the Infinity Shores Hotel.
The place was packed with celebrities and the smell of perfume!
It was a great networking opportunity, and Charlotte wasn't going to miss it because of personal stuff. She held a glass of champagne and mingled.
Lily came over, dragging Bradley, and introduced Charlotte to some good contacts.
Charlotte was graceful.
She ignored the stare from the second floor.
Frederick stood there, in a suit, leaning on the railing, watching Charlotte. His stare was so intense even Lily noticed.
She whispered to Charlotte, "He hasn't been with anyone since you broke up. That look is too obvious."
Charlotte didn't need to look to know.
When they were together, Frederick always looked at her with that longing gaze. He was handsome and charming, and few women could resist him.
Many socialites were eyeing him.
Sleeping with Frederick was a dream for many women in Syeattel.
But Charlotte wasn't interested. She ignored his stare and acted like he didn't exist.
She accepted other men's dance invitations, trying to distance herself from him and show she had nothing to do with the Hawkins family anymore.
Later in the party, Oliver showed up.
He'd been busy and hadn't seen her for about a week.
When Oliver arrived, he glanced at the second floor.
Frederick, looking sharp, raised his champagne glass at him!
That sexy look made all the women swoon. Lily whispered to Charlotte, "Besides being a jerk, he's really good-looking. All the guys in their circle are, but compared to Frederick, they're always a bit lacking!"
Charlotte coughed lightly. "Should I tell Bradley that?"
Lily quickly begged for mercy.
At that moment, Oliver came over and asked Charlotte to dance. "Miss Russell, may I have the honor?"
Lily covered her face.
When Oliver got serious, he had a certain charm!
Charlotte smiled and placed her hand in his, accepting his invitation.
She knew Frederick was watching and probably fuming, but she wasn't going to change her life for him.
Charlotte danced with Oliver, becoming the center of attention!
Everyone watched the dancing couple, then glanced at Frederick.
What a scene!
Would Frederick start a fight? Drag Charlotte away?
This was a citywide live broadcast .
A hum of excitement filled the room as Frederick made his way down to the first floor, exuding a mature, captivating presence like a polished model straight out of a high-end magazine. Every stride he took commanded attention, his aura making it impossible for anyone to look away.
He went to the piano, whispered to the pianist, who then stepped aside.
Frederick sat down, his long fingers gliding over the keys, playing "First Love," Charlotte's favorite!
His eyes were fixed on Charlotte, full of emotion.
Already good-looking, this move made the women swoon even more!
An ex dancing with someone else, and a man playing the piano for her, gazing at her lovingly—who could resist? This version of Frederick captured all the women's hearts!
Just like he said, he could get whatever he wanted easily!
Charlotte slowly stiffened. She couldn't keep dancing!
'What should have been a wonderful party is ruined by him! Frederick, why do you always make me cry? Why are you the only one who can make me cry?'
Charlotte realized she had tears in her eyes.
Frederick was still at the piano, looking at her tenderly, his voice gentle. "Charlotte, are you having fun tonight?"
Charlotte's chest heaved.
She told herself not to lose it and make a scene!
She trembled, forcing a smile, and replied, "If you didn't bother me, I'd be happier!"
Frederick lowered his eyes and smiled lightly. "I can't do that! Charlotte, watching you dance with someone else makes me angry! But I don't know what else to do, so I played the piano for you, hoping you'd be a little happier! Did I make you unhappy? If I did, I can change until you're happy, okay?"
His words stunned everyone!
Lily pinched her thigh, praying for Charlotte! 'How did Charlotte get involved with such a difficult man? His scheming is too deep! Anyone who doesn't know the truth would think Charlotte abandoned Frederick!'
Charlotte turned and left.
At that moment, she forgot everything, including the live broadcast. She only knew she wanted to escape from Frederick!
As she left, tears welled up in her eyes.
Frederick caught her at the elevator. "Are you mad?"
Charlotte shook him off.
She turned around. "Frederick, what do you want? I'm begging you. With your looks and charm, many girls would throw themselves at you. Please don't pester me. I can't handle it anymore. Please let me go!"
Frederick pushed her into the elevator and closed the doors, leaving the onlookers outside.
Inside the elevator, it was just the two of them.
Charlotte cried.
Frederick's heart ached. He gently wiped away her tears and said softly, "Many people want to sleep with me, but I only want to sleep with you! Charlotte, don't make me angry. I don't know what I'll do when I'm angry! Hasn't Oliver stopped bothering you lately?"
Charlotte's eyes widened.
Frederick's tone remained gentle. "I just kept him busy, so he didn't have time. Charlotte, he might get even busier or face other issues; I can't guarantee that!"
