Chapter 554 I Want Custody of Angelina
Johnny wrapped up his words and looked like he was about to leave.
Even though it hadn't been long, Bobby still recognized him and was all set to tag along.
Bobby jumped off Angelina and landed right on Johnny.
Johnny scooped him up with one hand, gave his fur a quick ruffle, and handed him back to Angelina.
His eyes softened. "Take good care of him!"
Angelina flashed an innocent smile. "Thank you!"
Johnny looked at her, fighting the urge to tell her he was her dad. But seeing Darren and Lola together just tore him up inside.
He bolted out of the bedroom.
As he made his way downstairs and out of the main villa, he caught the last light of the sunset on the horizon.
Snapping back to reality, Johnny felt a sharp pain in his chest and his heart racing. With shaky hands, he lit a cigarette.
Charlotte walked over slowly and said softly, "Johnny!"
Seeing his face, she couldn't help but add, "Didn't the doctor say you should cut back on smoking?"
Johnny gave a faint smile. "I couldn't help it."
But he put out the cigarette right after.
Charlotte just reminded him to take care of himself.
Johnny's eyes stung. "Mom, I know."
Charlotte looked at him, then stepped forward to straighten his collar. "Come back for dinner in a couple of days."
Johnny was about to say something when Lola came out.
Charlotte turned to Lola, figuring they had stuff to talk about.
She really didn't know what to do anymore!
If Lola had come back alone, she and Frederick could've smoothed things over, but now Darren was back with her, and their vibe was different from before.
Over the years, Charlotte still looked gentle. "You two talk, I'll go check on Angelina."
Now it was just the two of them in the parking lot. The sun sank beneath the horizon, and the final glimmers of daylight faded into the twilight.
Lola quietly watched the sunset. Johnny looked at her, his eyes full of struggle and confusion. He couldn't wrap his head around why she loved him so much back then but now seemed so cold, raising their kid with another guy.
"Lola, how could you be so heartless?"
Lola turned her gaze back to his face.
Johnny lit another cigarette, took a few drags with his eyes downcast, then looked at her steadily, his voice hoarse. "I can get over what happened in the past few years!"
Three years ago, he and Lola were engaged. These past few years, she had been with Darren day and night, which felt like his wife being with another man. He didn't want to think about whether they had been intimate. Just thinking about it drove him nuts.
But in the end, he gave in. He told her he wouldn't hold it against her!
There was a long silence between them.
After a while, Lola finally spoke, "Johnny, do you know what you're saying?"
Lola lowered her eyes. "We're done."
As she turned to leave, Johnny said, "Let's talk about Angelina's custody!"
Lola spun around sharply.
Johnny was smoking, holding the slender cigarette between his long fingers, squinting slightly, looking very charming. But to her, he was utterly detestable.
Lola repeated his words, "You want custody of Angelina?"
"Yes!"
Lola smiled faintly, walked a few steps closer to him, lowered her voice, and said softly, "What right do you have to fight for custody? I've been the one taking care of her all this time."
As she accused him, for a moment, he wanted to argue back.
He wanted to say that if she hadn't left, he would have always been there. But he felt that saying it wouldn't matter; she hated him and would never believe him.
Johnny laughed lightly. "Because I'm her father! And I'm the kind of scoundrel who wants tenfold in return for a single effort! Does that answer satisfy you?"
Lola stared at him.
Johnny took a step back, stubbed out his cigarette, and said calmly, "You should know that I can now go head-to-head with the Hawkins Family! I don't care what you call me, at most a heartless man! Let's go to court, Lola. Or you can just bring her back to me."
He even thought that if she came back, he wouldn't bring up Darren at all.
Lola lowered her eyes and gave a faint smile. "Fine! Let's go to court then!"
Then she turned to leave.
A few steps away, Johnny's tense voice called out from behind, "Do you love him?"
Lola didn't even pause and kept walking.
Johnny stood there in the twilight, watching her go.
After a while, he suddenly looked up.
Darren was on the balcony, wearing a white shirt and light blue, slightly worn jeans. He looked young and well-groomed, yet with a hint of maturity.
Johnny's previously firm belief wavered.
He had always thought that Lola deeply loved him and would never love anyone else in this lifetime.
Even if she was with Darren, it was just settling.
But Darren in the twilight was captivating, with a sense of melancholy that made it hard to look away. In contrast, Johnny was filled with hostility.
For the first time, he wasn't so confident!
After a long look, he opened the car door, got in, and drove away.
Lola slowly went upstairs.
Darren heard the footsteps and turned to her. Lola said softly, "It went smoothly! We just need to find the right opportunity to clear things up."
Darren stayed quiet, but he felt very sad inside.
Lola probably felt uncomfortable too, so she didn't bring up the topic again. She went back to the bedroom and saw Angelina holding the puppy, clearly in love with it.
Johnny didn't immediately go to court with Lola.
But since they were both in Syeattel, they would occasionally run into each other.
Lola had returned to work at the law firm, and during social events, she would occasionally see Johnny. He was always accompanied by women, usually high-profile actresses, whether to spite Lola or for some other reason, it was quite ostentatious.
Lola couldn't be bothered to care.
One day, she was signing documents at the law firm. She hadn't been involved in business for the past three years. So there was a lot to catch up on.
The secretary knocked on the door. "Mr. Flores is here to see you."
Lola put down her pen and looked up. "Johnny?"
The secretary smiled and nodded.
Lola looked down again. "Let him in."
The secretary went to get him, and unexpectedly, Johnny came in with a female celebrity.
She had accompanied him to a social event last week, making headlines and causing quite a stir.
As soon as he came in, he observed Lola's reaction.
Lola just glanced at them and then looked back at her documents, casually asking, "Are you here to draft a prenuptial agreement?"
The female celebrity looked uneasy. She wanted to get married, but Johnny had no such intention! She was just hired by Johnny to put on an act in front of Lola.
Johnny leaned on the sofa. The secretary poured him coffee, and after taking a sip, he said calmly, "No! I'm here to ask about your decision."
Lola put down her documents and looked at him for a long time before saying, "Bringing a woman to ask if I want to be with you? Is my worth really that low in your eyes just because I had given birth?"
He thought, ''Of course not.''
Johnny looked at Lola, almost going mad.
She had given birth, but she was more feminine than before. It wasn't obvious in her business attire, but in the previous meetings, she wore dresses that showed off her soft, alluring curves.
He desired her body.
His voice was slightly hoarse. "What's your decision?"
Lola started looking at her documents again, saying lightly, "Let's go to court!"
Her voice was indeed light and soft. Johnny even felt like she was seducing him.
He stared at her, and the female celebrity beside him wisely left.
Lola looked up at the closed door and smiled lightly. "Childish!"
The one word seemed to bring them closer.
Johnny walked over and locked the door. He slowly walked to her desk, half-leaning on it, his tall figure blocking her view. So Lola had to look up at him.
Johnny leaned in slightly, his voice terribly hoarse. "Lola, why do I feel like you're seducing me? Isn't Darren satisfying you?"
