Chapter 760 Lola, You Still Care About Me?
Johnny didn't expect Lola to ask that question. He was usually so good at communicating, but even he was momentarily stunned.
The atmosphere froze.
After a while, he finally spoke softly, "I got it about two months ago."
They got along peacefully, and Lola was still very willing to show her concern for him. She gently patted Stella's back and said, "Then drink less and take care of yourself."
She said it so naturally that Johnny couldn't help but ask, "You still care about me?"
Lola's body stiffened slightly.
After a moment, she straightened up and briefly explained Angelina and Austin's schedules to him. Her tone was calm but maintained a certain distance. She spoke for about two or three minutes, and Johnny listened quietly the whole time.
Stella, nestled in his arms, stayed quiet.
Stella seemed to instinctively know this was her dad. She looked up at Johnny with her big, beautiful eyes, and he couldn't resist reaching out to gently touch her face. It was soft and tender, with the sweet scent of a baby.
Stella had already learned to call people without being taught. She naturally called him "Daddy". Johnny's eyes reddened.
Angelina and Austin hadn't seen him in a long time either.
With Lola around, the two kids always felt a bit restrained.
Seeing Felicity there, Lola felt reassured and said a few more words before leaving. The living room was left with just Johnny, Felicity, and the three kids.
After a while, the sound of a car starting came from downstairs.
It must have been Lola leaving.
Felicity noticed that the kids were feeling a bit awkward, so she smiled and said, "I'll go make some snacks and juice. I'll take Angelina and Austin to their classes this afternoon. For now, just play for a bit!"
Angelina missed Johnny a lot.
She gently hugged Johnny's arm, looking very dependent, while Austin was still upset with him and sat silently to the side.
Johnny quietly shifted his leg, as Stella was making it ache.
He tried talking to Austin.
Austin was stubborn for a while but eventually started talking to Johnny, though not as warmly as before. Johnny felt a pang of sadness but was helpless.
He continued to hold Stella while sitting.
After a while, Stella wanted to get down so someone could carry her around. She wriggled in her little floral dress, constantly looking at Johnny.
Austin calmly said, "She wants to learn to walk."
Johnny's body tensed.
Stella was only nine months old, and she could be held up to walk a bit, but his legs couldn't support him. He wanted to explain to Austin but found his throat felt blocked.
At that moment, Johnny felt a deep sense of sorrow.
If he wanted to be with his kids, he had to be honest with the world. He had to be honest with Lola that he was a cripple, someone who couldn't even walk.
Austin, seeing him not move, asked in a muffled voice, "Do your legs still hurt? Mom said you should drink less."
Johnny was touched.
After a while, he softly asked, "Do you want me to listen to Mom?"
Austin didn't respond. He just took Stella from Johnny's arms and held her up by her arms, letting her move her little feet on the ground.
Even just a bit of movement was enough to make Stella happy.
Austin quietly said, "If you don't take care of yourself and your legs keep hurting, you won't be able to hold Stella."
Johnny's heart trembled. After a while, he asked, "If Dad's legs never get better and always hurt, would you still call me Dad?"
Austin suddenly looked up.
