Chapter 404 Don't Want to Talk to You Anymore
Her voice had that playful, flirty vibe.
While scribbling his name, Andrew sighed, "Just a few more, hang tight!"
Chloe wandered behind him.
He braced himself for some mischief, but instead, Chloe started massaging his neck and whispered, "Feeling beat? We can ditch shopping and just head home for dinner if you want."
Andrew's heart melted. He glanced at her.
Even now, he hadn't given her much, and she had put up with so much. Yet she treated him like gold.
He gently held her hand and asked softly, "You worried about me?"
Chloe murmured a soft "Mm-hmm."
She leaned her soft body against him, her face nuzzling his neck, breathing in his fresh, manly scent. She spoke in a low, gentle voice, "I want you to take it easy."
Andrew stroked her hand. "Chloe, I'm not tired."
Maybe he used to be, but with her around, he really wasn't.
The door creaked open, and Nathan walked in with a cup of tonic soup. Seeing the tender moment, he hesitated, then just smiled, closed the door, and teased, "Chloe must really care about you!"
Andrew smirked.
He pointed to the side and said, "Put the soup down and call it a day!"
Nathan nodded and left.
With the door shut, Chloe still clung to Andrew's back because he was still holding her hand. She playfully punched his shoulder. "Let me down; it's not cool if others see."
Andrew, however, pulled her onto his lap and handed her the cup of tonic soup.
Chloe shook her head.
Andrew gently touched her lips and said softly, "Your lips are chapped! Drink a little!"
A young girl was like a ripe, juicy peach.
If a guy overdid it, sometimes she lost her spark.
He was looking out for her!
Chloe, though only half-getting it, knew it wasn't a great comment.
She still refused to drink but stayed on his lap, and Andrew let her be.
After wrapping up his work, he held her in one arm while feeding her the soup with the other. Andrew had his ways with women. Chloe couldn't resist and obediently drank half a cup, then playfully asked him to drink the rest.
Andrew didn't waste Nathan's effort.
He downed it in one gulp.
He grabbed the coat from the back of the chair. "Let's roll! I'll take you out for dinner and shopping."
"And a movie!" Chloe seized the moment to wrap her arms around his.
Andrew looked down at her quietly; she was still as playful as ever. She would be his wife in the future.
Andrew wasn't one for sweet talk. Even in such a heartwarming moment, he just gently squeezed her fingertips.
Downstairs, a black Range Rover was parked.
Chloe looked at him. "You're driving this in Copenhegan?"
Andrew opened the car door for her and smiled. "This one's new and roomier."
Chloe hopped into the passenger seat.
While buckling up, she noticed a tissue box, a small blanket, and other items in her favorite light pink color, as well as kids' toys in the back seat.
There was even a bottle of perfume.
Chloe picked it up and sprayed a little. "Aren't you worried people will think you're not serious?"
Andrew chuckled. "It's a family car; I won't be driving anyone else!"
Such simple words made Chloe feel warm inside.
As the holiday family party approached, Copenhagen, though not as bustling as Syeattel, had its own lively charm.
People were everywhere, and it was mealtime, so the aroma of food filled the air.
Andrew parked the car and turned to her. "What do you wanna eat?"
Chloe was stumped for a sec.
They'd barely eaten out together, and when they did, it was always at that one spot.
She bit her lip lightly. "I want steak!"
Andrew gave her cheek a gentle pinch, "Alright, steak it is."
Chloe was ready to hop out of the car, but he stopped her. "Put on your coat."
She refused, saying it was just a few steps to the elevator and she wanted to look cute.
Andrew ended up carrying it for her.
Getting out of the car, he watched her walk ahead. The square was decked out with tiny lights, making it look like a mini galaxy at night.
But his Chloe outshone them all.
Andrew called out, "Chloe."
She turned around and pouted, "Andrew, you're so slow!"
Andrew picked up the pace, draped her coat over her shoulders, and pulled her in for a deep kiss.
She tasted a faint hint of tobacco.
He coaxed her to kiss him back. Chloe felt a bit shy and lightly pushed against his chest.
Andrew pulled up her coat to cover her face.
When it ended, Chloe's heart was racing. He was tall, and she nestled into his neck, complaining softly, "Someone must have seen us."
Andrew chuckled softly.
He touched her face and spoke in a low voice, "Chloe, I've never been this reckless before!"
This was Copenhegan.
With people coming and going, they might even run into friends, family, or coworkers.
Andrew helped her put on the coat properly, his gaze deep.
Chloe pouted. "We'll have to take it off again at the restaurant."
"Keep it on! If you're so eager to take off your clothes, you can do it all you want at home." Andrew's voice was steady, and he was quite strict with her.
Chloe fell silent, her cheeks slightly red.
He was so shameless!
Andrew watched her walk ahead in a huff and reached out to pull her back, letting her hold onto him.
Chloe wanted to throw a tantrum but couldn't bear to let go.
Luckily, at the restaurant, he toned it down a bit.
But Chloe noticed that as soon as Andrew sat down, all the women in the place were eyeing him.
She stared at the man across from her.
He had a refined face, was tall and well-built, dressed to the nines. He was indeed a looker!
Chloe felt a bit annoyed.
Andrew served her some food and said softly, "What's there to look at? Eat your food!"
Chloe responded with a soft "Mm-hmm."
Andrew patted her head. "Eat up, and then we'll go look at some jewelry. I never had the time to spoil you or give you nice things before."
The only engagement ring he gave her, she was reluctant to wear. Probably saving it for the wedding.
Andrew found it both frustrating and amusing. Did she think he was broke?
Chloe had plenty of jewelry, but a girl always hopes for gifts from the guy she loves. She lowered her head and poked at her steak without saying a word.
Andrew guessed her thoughts.
After a moment, he said softly, "It's rare for us to have a meal alone. Don't be mad, okay?"
He coaxed her gently.
Chloe was always very obedient to him. She nodded and didn't argue with him.
Andrew saw her looking down, so docile and easy to please, and felt a warmth in his heart. Such a beautiful life, they could share it for decades to come.
After dinner and shopping, she leaned entirely on him.
Andrew had never seen anyone so clingy.
But he liked it.
He took her to a jewelry store, where the manager had been waiting and had prepared the brand's heirloom treasures in advance. "Mr. Devereux, these are our brand's heirloom treasures! They are usually not on display!"
The manager glanced at Andrew's companion, curious about the lucky girl getting all this attention from Andrew.
When he saw her, he was a bit taken aback.
She had that rich-girl vibe, all calm and collected.
Chloe checked out the five sets of jewelry.
Each set was worth at least $5 million.
She carefully picked and finally settled on a diamond set.
Andrew asked softly, "Are you trying to save me some cash? I know Charlotte just gave you a set of jewelry, so let's grab another one to match."
So they ended up taking two sets.
After swiping the card, the manager personally locked the jewelry in a safe and arranged for a special car to deliver it to the Devereux Mansion.
Andrew kept shopping with Chloe.
With the New Year coming up, Chloe wanted to buy some new clothes for Adeline and Gavin. Andrew watched her focused expression and leaned in. "Nothing for me? I need a couple of shirts too, and my belt's shot."
Chloe's cheeks turned a bit red. "I'll pick something for you later."
When they got to the men's store, even though they were there to buy his clothes, he sat on the sofa reading the newspaper like he had nothing to do. Chloe thought he really knew how to make her work!
But no matter what, this was their first time shopping together.
She had a good eye and picked out a few shirts and matching dress pants for him.
While choosing a belt, she ran into someone she didn't want to see.
It was Celeste. She was also picking out men's accessories.
When their eyes met, both were a bit surprised. Then Celeste picked up a tie and told the sales associate, "I'll take this one. Please wrap it up."
Chloe's gaze fell on her hand.
She was wearing black leather gloves.
Celeste glanced to the side and saw Andrew sitting there reading the newspaper, feeling a pang of sadness.
She had shared sweet youthful moments with him, but he had never been this considerate back then.
Celeste walked over and softly called, "Andrew."
Andrew was surprised to see her.
He instinctively looked at Chloe.
Chloe was a jealous person, but she couldn't act out in public, so she put the belt she had picked back on the shelf.
Andrew found her reaction both amusing and frustrating, but there was someone else he needed to get rid of first.
Someone of Andrew's status couldn't afford to be impolite.
He smiled faintly. "What a coincidence!"
Such a polite and distant response was not what Celeste wanted, but she kept her composure.
At that moment, the sales associate finished wrapping the tie, and Celeste went to pay.
Then, under Chloe's watchful eyes, she walked up to Andrew and said in a voice full of emotion, "I'm moving to Lumina Bay City soon! Consider this tie a gift."
Andrew had no intention of taking it.
Celeste smiled bitterly. "You won't even accept a gift?"
Andrew had to respond. He said in a low voice, "Celeste, do you think it's appropriate? I have a wife now."
Celeste turned to look at Chloe.
Then she turned back to Andrew and asked, "Do you love her?"
Andrew softly said, "Yes."
Celeste lowered her eyes, then raised her right arm, looking at the hand wearing the glove.
She laughed self-deprecatingly.
She walked out, throwing the tie into the trash can.
Andrew wanted to smoke a cigarette.
He didn't care about Celeste, but anyone would feel bad in this situation. He couldn't even get angry because it was a mess he had gotten himself into!
Looking at Chloe, her eyes were red, clearly upset.
Andrew walked over and sighed softly. "You mad?"
Chloe responded with a soft "Mm-hmm," like she was about to cry.
She yanked the belt down and went to pay, stubbornly refusing to use his card.
Andrew tried to lighten the mood, "Well, I guess I benefited from this misfortune. Saved some money and got you to keep me!"
"Who wants to keep you?" she snapped.
Andrew knew she was feeling hurt. Their nice date had been ruined.
He said softly, "It's okay to be mad, but don't cry. There are so many people watching."
Chloe paid and stormed out first.
Andrew tidied up and followed her out with the bags.
She was already at the elevator door. Andrew tried to joke with her, but she wouldn't respond. In the car, they sat in silence, and he knew she was really upset. He said, "I've already transferred her to Lumina Bay City."
Chloe was quiet for a moment, then asked, "Why was she able to stay by your side all these years?"
Andrew was stumped by the question.
Yeah, why had Celeste been able to stick around and work here?
Partly because he thought he and Chloe had no future, and partly out of past affection, he didn't want to leave Celeste with no options.
He didn't love her, just gave her a way to survive!
But now, it had become a source of conflict between him and Chloe.
Andrew wasn't stubborn.
He gently touched her hair and apologized, "It's my fault."
Chloe choked up a bit. She knew his choice back then wasn't wrong. They had broken up and thought they would never cross paths again. He didn't need to consider her feelings, so keeping someone around to work wasn't inappropriate.
But they had reconciled. So Celeste's presence now felt awkward.
She couldn't help but be angry.
But she was also spineless, turning her face away with red eyes. "I don't want to talk to you tonight!"
Andrew certainly wouldn't let her stay mad until tomorrow.
That would be too irresponsible of him.
He slowly fastened his seatbelt and asked her gently, "Will you talk to me in the morning?"
She huffed softly.
Andrew patted her head and said nothing more, driving them home.
The Devereux Mansion was full of festive cheer.
At this hour, Adeline was still awake.
Chloe got out of the car, intending to go straight to the small courtyard, but no matter how angry and willful she was, she couldn't ignore Adeline. So she went over and quietly helped Adeline.
Adeline noticed her red eyes and her son's awkwardness with the bags and knew they had a quarrel.
Adeline pretended not to know.
She put on her reading glasses and smiled. "Let me see Gavin's new clothes! Chloe; bring them to the room so we can have a good look."
Andrew heard this and knew Adeline wanted to keep Chloe there for the night.
He smiled subtly.
"Let's try them tomorrow! Chloe isn't feeling well; I'll take her to our room."
Adeline was surprised. "Is she on her period?"
Andrew vaguely said yes.
Chloe blushed with embarrassment. She wasn't on her period, but he said it anyway.
Andrew tossed the bags to his son.
After that, he wrapped his arm around Chloe and took her to his room to have a good talk.
Meanwhile, Adeline felt sorry for Chloe.
If she was on her period, running around in the cold wasn't good. She decided to make some hot cocoa to warm her up.
In their room, Andrew pulled Chloe into his bedroom.
With the door closed, she refused to go in, leaning against the door with red eyes. "I want to sleep at Adeline's."
Andrew touched her face. "Would you like to do it here? You were quite excited last night."
