Chapter 178 She Will Cry
Frederick walked out of the private room, his white shirt stained with Ethan's blood. He lit a cigarette in the hallway and took a slow drag.
Despite looking down on Ethan, he had to admit Ethan was right about some things.
His relationship with Charlotte seemed equal, but she was the one making all the sacrifices. Because of their different family backgrounds, her efforts were taken for granted, and he never cared.
Ethan was right; he had neglected Charlotte's feelings.
Frederick took another drag on his cigarette.
He was handsome and noble, a magnet for women.
At Serene Oasis, Ethan had a mistress named Julia, who resembled Charlotte.
Julia had met Frederick at the police station once and felt he looked at her differently. Seeing him again, she thought even one night with him would be enough.
Julia's heart raced.
She stepped forward and gently touched Frederick's face. "Mr. Hawkins, can I join you for a drink?"
Frederick, picky as ever, hated being touched by unrelated women. He had been drinking and immediately shoved Julia away. She hit the opposite wall with a thud, crying out in pain.
Henry heard the noise and rushed over.
It wasn't a big deal.
But when Frederick saw her face clearly, he exploded.
He kicked open a private room door and pushed Julia inside.
Henry quickly followed, apologizing, "Julia is being immature, Mr. Hawkins. Please don't be angry."
Frederick sat on the sofa, lit a cigarette, and stared at Julia.
He was indeed very handsome, and Julia felt something stir inside her under his gaze.
"Come here!" Frederick suddenly said.
Julia's face turned red, and her heart raced. She moved closer, wanting to touch Frederick, but when he frowned, she stopped and just tilted her face up for him to admire.
Frederick gently pinched her chin and examined her closely. She did resemble Charlotte a bit.
Henry thought Frederick had taken a liking to Julia and said, "Julia is very good at serving people, Mr. Hawkins. You'll see if you give her a try."
Julia bit her lip lightly, tempting him.
Frederick suddenly let her go. He wiped his hands with a wet towel, his tone indifferent. "You have two choices: either stop being a prostitute with that face and live a proper life, or get plastic surgery and change your face. If I see you with that face in a place like this again, I'll tear it down wherever you are!"
Julia's legs went weak with fear!
Henry was almost in tears. 'What did Julia's face do to offend him?'
Frederick threw down a check, his expression cold. "The city is big, but it's very easy for me to make someone disappear!"
Henry collapsed to the ground. He quickly realized why Frederick couldn't tolerate Julia.
That face resembled his ex-girlfriend.
Henry cursed in his heart, 'Rich people have so many issues!'
It was just a slight resemblance, not even Frederick's woman, why did Frederick care? But he sent Julia back to her hometown overnight, begging her not to return to the city. He couldn't afford to offend Frederick.
Frederick was dead drunk. The club sent a driver to take him home, but when he got to the apartment building, he hesitated.
He didn't want to go up! Charlotte wasn't home!
Frederick was usually restrained and rarely got drunk and lost control, but tonight he was vomiting by the roadside until the world spun. When he sobered up a bit, he stood alone under the streetlight.
He remembered Charlotte feeding the little white dog right here.
She had left, taking everything, even the dog.
She hadn't left him a single memory.
Frederick's eyes reddened, and he called out, "Charlotte!"
In the distance, Katherine watched him. She had been watching for a while, seeing him drunk and looking up at the building with red eyes. She knew he was thinking of Charlotte. 'Frederick, have you really fallen for her?'
She had been calling him, but he didn't answer. She had made a scene, but he hadn't gone to the hospital.
He didn't care about her anymore, as if she didn't exist.
'Frederick, are you regretting it?' she wondered.
Katherine walked over to support him. "Frederick, you've had too much to drink!"
Frederick suddenly pushed her away, took two steps back, his eyes cold, muttering, "Get lost! I don't want to see you. If I meet you, Charlotte will be upset. She'll cry!"
Katherine was shocked. "Frederick, I will cry too!"
But Frederick kept retreating, then hurriedly left.
As if looking at Katherine for one more second would mean Charlotte would never come back, even though he knew Charlotte would never come back anyway.
Just like Ethan said, she just needed to heal, then fall in love and get married.
In the night, Katherine trembled. She had lost. She had used her life as a price, cutting her wrists again and again to keep Frederick, losing so much blood that her appearance was no longer the same, but she still lost.
Frederick was thinking of Charlotte.
Katherine's lips curled into a cold smile.
'Charlotte, how much more do you want to take from me?'
Early in the morning, Charlotte received good news.
This year's top ten outstanding young people in Syeattel included her.
The teachers in the music studio all congratulated her, and even Bernice, far away in Vienner, called to congratulate her, "Charlotte, this is truly something to celebrate. I really want to open a bottle of champagne to celebrate with you!"
Charlotte smiled lightly. "I'll come to Vienner, and we can celebrate together!"
Bernice wanted to decline, saying it wasn't necessary. But she missed Charlotte, so she finally said, "I'll be waiting for you in Vienner."
Charlotte was in a good mood. She gave bonuses to all the employees in the studio, and everyone was very happy. At this moment, her secretary came over and said, "Charlotte, there's a Miss Mitchell here to see you!"
'Miss Mitchell?' Charlotte's smile faded.
She told her secretary, Jenna Fisher, "Activate the surveillance in the reception room and ask Miss Mitchell to wait for me there."
Jenna guessed there was some conflict and immediately went to handle it.
Lily happened to be there and asked Charlotte, "Do you want to see her?"
Charlotte smiled faintly.
"Does she look like she's ready to let me go? If I don't make things clear with her, she'll probably keep bothering me. I'm not Elijah; I won't indulge her!"
Lily still felt worried. She knew everything from Oliver and was so angry she wanted to confront Frederick. But Charlotte wouldn't allow it, saying there was no need to say anything. If it was over, it should be cleanly over.
Lily, still uneasy, followed Charlotte to meet Katherine.
As soon as they entered the reception room, she felt disgusted.
Early in the morning, Katherine had run out in a hospital gown. Charlotte had a good temper; if it were her, she would have kicked her out already!
Charlotte sat across from Katherine and smiled slightly. "Miss Mitchell, what can I do for you?"
