Chapter 194 Playing Golf Again
The car stopped below her apartment building.
Brian yelled he wanted to come up, saying he was too tired and needed to sleep there.
Charlotte, of course, refused.
She calmly said, "If you don't want to sleep at my mom's, then sleep on the street."
Brian got mad and brought up another issue. "I should get a share of that $2 million, right? Don't tell me you're keeping it all."
Charlotte thought for a moment. "Mr. Nelson gave me $2 million to keep an eye on you!"
So she wouldn't give him a cent of that money.
Brian laughed, jumped out of the car, and glared at Charlotte. "You woman."
Charlotte ignored him and slowly went upstairs.
Brian wanted to curse more, but seeing her straight back, he suddenly couldn't say a word.
She looked really sad.
He always said she had feelings for Frederick. They clearly liked each other but pretended to be aloof. If he liked someone, he'd take them to bed and have his way with them ten times a night!
'What problem couldn't be solved that way?' he nodded to himself, content with his method of wooing women.
Brian jumped back into the car, initially thinking of having some fun, but tonight his mind was filled with Charlotte's sad expression.
'What a buzzkill!'
He couldn't muster any interest.
Charlotte returned to her apartment, and her little white dog came running up to her.
It hadn't seen Charlotte all day and was very clingy.
Charlotte took it downstairs for a walk. After about half an hour, she sat on a bench and called Lily. She felt a vague sense of unease.
Lily took a long time to answer, her voice hoarse, as if she had been crying.
Charlotte said softly, "I'll stay with you for the next few days."
Lily shook her head. "I'm fine. You go ahead with your work. Don't worry about my little problems. Focus on your work; I've invested some money in it too."
Charlotte didn't ask more questions.
She added, "If you need money, just let me know."
Although Bradley had money, his relationship with Lily was not serious. She didn't want Lily to feel humiliated by asking Bradley for help. Lily wanted to cry but pretended to be relaxed. "I'm fine, really. If I need anything, I'll definitely tell you."
She quickly hung up the phone.
In the small apartment, Bradley stood right in front of her.
His face was tense, emotions on the verge of exploding. He angrily asked Lily, "This is my child, right? How could you decide to get rid of it on your own? Don't I love you enough? I even took you to Nicholas's wedding. What are you thinking by getting rid of my child? Are you planning to reconcile with Robert?"
Lily's face was covered in tears.
She cried, "How could I possibly get back with him?"
Bradley kicked over a chair.
He looked at her. "You're just afraid of my bad reputation. Lily, if I'm willing to share a bed with you, I don't care about my reputation anymore. The one at fault is that bastard Robert! What's wrong with us being in love? If he hadn't backed out on the divorce before, we would have gotten our marriage license by now. You're hesitating because you're afraid I won't marry you. Let me tell you, I will marry no one but you in this lifetime!"
He added harshly, "If you dare get rid of the child, I'll break your legs so that you'll never leave me again."
Lily cried even harder.
Bradley wanted to say more, but his eyes turned red. Instead, he gently held the woman in his arms. "Don't cry. I'm here for you! The child must be born. Its father worked hard for it; we can't not give birth to it!"
Lily cried her heart out.
A week later, Brian swaggered into Charlotte's office.
Charlotte threw a stack of documents at him. "Take a look at this."
Brian opened it, barely interested.
He was lucky, born into a wealthy family, and only cared about women and cars. He had no interest in business. If it weren't to spite Frederick, he would've left long ago!
Charlotte didn't care about his attitude.
She said calmly, "Our music studio's clientele is high-end. I'm planning to set aside a space for a car show. You'll be in charge of this project. Of course, we're not well-known, so people might not be willing to cooperate with us!"
Brian tossed the documents aside, chewing gum. He sneered, "First, you had me selling coffee; now you want me to sell cars. What's next, selling myself?"
Charlotte replied indifferently, "With your temper, who could you serve?"
Brian jumped up, ready to prove her wrong.
Charlotte ignored him.
Brian said sheepishly, "You're no fun! It's been a week, and you're still thinking about Frederick? I'm telling you, if you had been with me, you'd forget about him immediately. What's so good about an old man? Who knows if he can even perform in bed?"
Charlotte coldly replied, "Finish reading the documents. Tomorrow, I'll take you to a social event. You can play golf, right?"
Brian swaggered.
Charlotte threw out a final remark. "If you can't, go learn immediately!"
Brian complained, "Golf is an old man's sport. I'm so young!"
The next day, Charlotte took Brian to a golf course.
Their contact was Ryan Sanders, the national distributor for BMW.
A middle-aged man with no other hobbies but golf and drinking.
Charlotte and Brian played along with him. Ryan appreciated her but was skeptical about the project. After all, he knew the people around Charlotte. But he thought Brian wasn't very reliable!
Ryan swung his club and smiled. "Ms. Russell, you play quite well. Someone must have taught you, right?"
Charlotte was slightly taken aback.
Frederick had taught her golf. He played very well, and she learned it quickly.
When Ryan mentioned it, Charlotte smiled faintly. "Yes, but the tuition was quite high!"
Ryan, being smart, didn't ask further.
They got along well, but Charlotte could tell Ryan wasn't very interested. However, she thought there might be opportunities for cooperation in the future.
She arranged a dinner meeting at a business club.
Ryan, once at the table, became talkative and liked to encourage drinking.
Charlotte drank almost a whole bottle of red wine and felt quite uncomfortable, so she went to the restroom to wash her face.
Brian stood behind her.
He said impatiently, "Mr. Sanders clearly isn't interested. Why are you still entertaining him? Even if you could secure the deal, is it worth drinking this much over such a small amount of money? A woman should act like a woman, stay at home, be a socialite, have meals, drink coffee, and attend concerts!"
Charlotte wiped her face. "I don't have your kind of luck! By the way, why are you here? Why aren't you with Mr. Sanders?"
"Why bother? He's not interested!"
Brian added, "You should be with me. If you were with me, you wouldn't have to suffer like this!"
Charlotte glared at him and walked away.
Brian followed. "Charlotte, you don't appreciate my kindness!"
