Chapter 174 Unveiling the identity: Meeting Victoria (Part 2)

Elijah's blood stained the tombstone red.

Victoria's faint smile on the stone looked just as young and lovely as ever.

Elijah got so worked up that he fainted, causing chaos.

The Hawkins family quickly helped him.

"Elijah!"

"Mr. Mitchell, what's wrong?"

Charlotte held William's photo, staring blankly.

She'd known for a while she wasn't William's biological daughter. She always wanted to know who her real father was but never imagined it would be Elijah, a man she admired since childhood, who also pushed her into the abyss.

She watched Elijah faint, feeling no sympathy, just cold indifference.

Patrick and Frederick had guessed it. The daughter Elijah was looking for was Charlotte! This shocked everyone.

Patrick sighed deeply. "If they'd known earlier, Charlotte and Frederick wouldn't have ended up like this."

Elijah woke up from his faint.

It started to drizzle.

At that moment, the heavy granite tomb cover fell, burying William and Victoria together.

"No!" Elijah staggered and rushed over. "Victoria, I'm taking you home!"

For someone of his status to act so undignified, others didn't know what to do.

Just as Elijah was overwhelmed with grief, Charlotte's voice was cold. "Mr. Mitchell, this is my mother's tomb. She is my father's legal wife. Where do you plan to take her? To the Mitchell family? I remember you have a legal wife!"

Elijah's body trembled.

He looked at Charlotte, who looked so much like Victoria and should be his child, but now his own daughter looked at him with coldness and a hint of hatred.

Elijah couldn't bear it and spat out more blood.

He let others pull him aside, watching helplessly as Victoria was buried with another man.

Charlotte no longer looked at him. She stood with Maria, silently mourning.

The funeral ended.

People gradually left. Patrick wanted to talk to Charlotte, but Elijah's condition was really bad, so he had to take him away first.

Charlotte, supported by Maria, prepared to take the car back.

Frederick grabbed her arm. "Charlotte, let's talk."

Charlotte's calm gaze fell on his face.

He was still as handsome as ever, but Charlotte found he no longer moved her. The difference between love and not loving was clear.

Charlotte said indifferently, "Wait a couple of days. I'm not in the mood to talk about this right now."

Frederick's face turned pale.

He moved his lips. "I'll take you and Maria back."

Charlotte lowered her eyes and said softly, "No need. The car is arranged. Mr. Hawkins, you should go back."

Frederick guessed her intention.

He somewhat understood Charlotte's character. This was probably her decision to end things with him. Frederick had thought about it these past two days, whether ending it would be better, but at night, when he touched the pillow, he missed Charlotte.

He missed the days living with her. He didn't want to break up and he didn't want to end it.

Charlotte and Maria returned home. The house felt a bit lonely.

They ate dinner in silence.

After dinner, Maria called Charlotte over and handed her a property deed.

Charlotte looked up suddenly. "Maria?"

Maria patted her head and said softly, "Charlotte, I want to live in that small house in the suburbs. This house is worth some money, and you can use it in tough times. I'm not capable, but I don't want to be a burden to you."

Charlotte was heartbroken.

She hugged Maria, her voice choked. "Why are you leaving? I want you to stay!"

Maria hesitated. She had guessed what happened at the cemetery today. Elijah was likely Charlotte's biological father. If Charlotte went with him, her life might be easier.

Charlotte shook her head. "I'm not going anywhere. I'll stay with you!"

Maria sighed softly.

She loved Charlotte, but Charlotte wasn't her biological child. She couldn't selfishly keep her by her side anymore.

Charlotte hugged her tighter. "Can I call you Mom? I'll call you Mom, and you don't leave!"

Maria's body stiffened.

Charlotte hugged her even tighter.

Her voice was small, just like when they first met, timidly calling her, "Mom, don't leave."

Maria cried!

Since William's death, she had always appeared strong, but no one knew the sorrow in her heart.

She had lost her husband and had no biological children.

Now, Charlotte called her Mom.

Maria hugged Charlotte and cried. "I won't leave. I won't leave! Charlotte, for you calling me Mom, I won't go anywhere."

Charlotte leaned gently in her arms, quietly absorbing the warmth.

In the afternoon, Maria made her take a nap. When she woke up, she heard voices in the living room.

Charlotte walked out, supporting herself against the wall, and her eyes narrowed when she saw the visitor.

Elijah sat in the living room, with many expensive gifts at his feet. When he saw Charlotte, his lips trembled for a long time, and finally, he softly said, "Charlotte!"

Charlotte knew why he came.

She said politely, "Something happened at home. I'm sorry to trouble you, Mr. Mitchell." Her gaze fell on the gifts. "Your kind thoughts are enough, but I really can't accept these."

Elijah watched her. The more he looked, the more she resembled Victoria and the Mitchell family.

Victoria had married someone else and was buried. He had no choice, but Charlotte was the only child left of the Mitchell family. How could he not acknowledge her?

He wanted to give her the best.

Elijah calmed down and said gently, "I heard you play the piano very well. Patrick mentioned wanting to send you abroad to study. I know some tutors there. Or I could teach you myself."

He wanted to make up for lost time, to make his daughter a top musician.Elijah said a lot, and Charlotte smiled faintly.

She looked down at her own foot.

This foot had nerve damage. Not to mention becoming a top pianist, she couldn't even drive.

She could never go to Torontow.

She didn't tell Elijah this. She just smiled lightly. "Thank you, Mr. Mitchell, but I don't need it. Besides, if there's nothing else, I won't see you out."

She had difficulty walking, so she just told Maria.

Maria respected her choice, picked up the gifts, and politely saw him out.

Outside the door, Elijah didn't want to give up. "Charlotte."

Maria smiled faintly. "I understand your intentions, but after so much has happened, it also depends on the child's own wishes, doesn't it? People have feelings, Mr. Mitchell. You felt sorry for your daughter back then, but Charlotte only had William and me to feel sorry for her."

These words pierced Elijah's heart like a thousand arrows.
