Chapter 256 I'm Here

Katherine hit the ground hard, blood pooling under her!

Charlotte's hands were shaking like crazy as she gripped the wheel. It wasn't that she didn't have her own issues, but there was no time to think!

All she could think was, if Katherine got away, what would happen to Lola?

The kindergarten security guard had Katherine pinned, and someone had already called the cops. Lola was bawling her eyes out, and the whole place was a mess!

Charlotte was shaking all over as she got out of the car.

She had to get Katherine to the hospital, but how was she gonna explain this to anyone?

Could she even take her away?

Just then, a warm hand grabbed hers. "Charlotte, don't freak out!"

Charlotte's body went stiff, and she whipped her head around.

It was Frederick!

The second she saw him, all her strength just vanished, and she could only manage to call his name, trembling, "Frederick!"

Frederick squeezed her hand and said in a rough voice, "I got this!"

He then quickly walked over to Lola, pulled out some hemostatic enzyme from his pocket, and gave her one.

Lola's little leg was covered in blood.

Frederick's heart was breaking. He picked Lola up, and she clung to him, her face soaked with tears. "Daddy, my leg hurts!"

Frederick kissed her, his voice rough. "I'll get you to the hospital!"

Time was ticking. He handed Lola to Charlotte. "Get in the car!"

He then walked over to drag Katherine off the ground while making a call. "Miles Stewart, it's Frederick! There's been an attack at XX Kindergarten. The attacker is down thanks to my wife but might be in bad shape. We're taking her to the hospital; no issues, right?"

After a few words from the other side, he hung up!

Katherine seemed to get it, her lips trembling as she screamed, "No! It can't be! Frederick, you wouldn't do this to me!"

Frederick's lips spat out two words. "I would!"

With that, he tossed Katherine into another car!

Two black sedans sped off, pulling up at a fancy private hospital ten minutes later.

Charlotte held Lola, trying to calm her down!

Frederick didn't let them see Katherine. He just came over to pat Lola's head. "Don't be scared. I'm here!"

Lola clung to Charlotte, tears streaming down her face.

Frederick looked at Charlotte, his voice calm and gentle. "Take her to the ER! I'll be right there!"

After he spoke, he turned and left.

Charlotte felt uneasy and called out, "Frederick!"

Frederick paused, turned back, and gave her a reassuring smile. "Don't worry! Everything will be fine!"

Charlotte held Lola, watching Frederick, her gaze gradually becoming firm.

She believed in him.

The driver led the way, and Charlotte carried Lola inside. The doctors in the ER were already on standby. About 20 minutes later, a nurse rushed in, holding a blood bag!

"Give her a transfusion now; she has a clotting disorder!"

Lola lay quietly, her little face pale.

The 100-milliliter blood bag emptied fast, but new ones kept coming. Charlotte's heart trembled; she knew whose blood it was!

In total, 800 milliliters of blood were transfused!

Lola, exhausted from crying, fell asleep on the white little bed, her long lashes still wet with tears, looking pitiful.

Charlotte held her small hand, still trembling from the scare.

A hand gently rested on her shoulder. She turned to see Frederick.

Frederick looked worn out.

He sat down next to Charlotte, gently pulling her into his arms. Without her asking, he spoke in a low, hoarse voice, "Last night you called me, then I had a dream that Lola was hurt! I couldn't rest easy, so I took a private jet back first thing in the morning!"

He pressed his forehead against hers. "Charlotte, you did great!"

Charlotte wanted to say something.

He stopped her. "Leave it to me! Just know that Lola will be fine!"

Charlotte didn't ask any more questions.

She leaned on his shoulder, still shaken, and gently hugged his waist.

After a long embrace, Frederick told her to stay with Lola. He went outside to smoke; he needed to calm down!

As he smoked, his phone rang in his pocket.

The call was from Miles, and his tone was dead serious. "Frederick, we've basically confirmed that Katherine is the deranged killer! She has the blood of four people on her hands!"

He paused for a sec. "Is she still breathing?"

Frederick's voice was low. "Yeah, she's still in the hospital. I'll cooperate fully! My wife? She acted in self-defense, so let's keep her out of this as much as we can."

In the big cold storage room, ten blood bags were lined up neatly!

He reached out and grabbed one, quietly checking it out.

Cherie pushed the door open and came in, lowering her voice. "Mr. Hawkins, I found three rare blood types in City A and City T."

Frederick put the blood bags back and turned around, speaking calmly, "Give them an offers to work at Vertex Innovations Group!"

Cherie nodded.

She hesitated for a moment. "Actually, there's another rare blood type in Seattle, but the person is quite young."

Frederick frowned.

Cherie handed him a file. "It's quite a coincidence; he's a classmate of Lola's in kindergarten, named Johnny Flores. Mr. Hawkins, this is all his info."

'Johnny?'

Frederick took the file and opened it.

The kid's family business was on the brink of bankruptcy.

Their eldest son had died, and Johnny, being an illegitimate child, was only allowed back into the family, living a tough life!

Cherie, being a mom, couldn't help but say, "This kid's had a rough go!"

Frederick looked at the file for a long time.

The kid was really good-looking, and his eyes showed smarts.

He gently closed the file. "Set up a meeting with Mr. Flores from Horizon Innovations Group for a round of golf. Tell him I have a project to discuss with him!"

Cherie got the hint.

After handling the matter, Frederick headed back to the hospital room where Patrick and Laura, along with Chloe, had arrived.

Patrick was super distressed!

He held Lola like a baby, constantly comforting her, to the point where even Frederick couldn't stand it. "Dad, Lola's lost a lot of blood. If you keep shaking her like that, she'll get dizzy!"

Patrick quickly asked Lola, "Baby, are you dizzy?"

Lola loved being pampered.

Even if she was dizzy, she still clung to Patrick, wanting kisses from him.

Patrick's old face crumpled, and then he started to cry.

Lola, who had a near-death experience at birth and was raised with great difficulty by Frederick, was now hurt by the deranged Katherine.

Patrick restrained himself before speaking, "Frederick, you handle it!"

Frederick nodded. "Dad, I know!"

Charlotte looked up, watching him.

Frederick put his arm around her shoulder, his voice gentle. "It's all over now!"

In the afternoon, Frederick went to the police station.

He didn't get back to the hospital until late at night.

When he opened the door to the hospital room, the light was soft, and Charlotte was asleep, leaning over.

Lola heard the footsteps and woke up, softly calling, "Daddy."

Frederick took off his coat and draped it over Charlotte.

He sat by the bed, picked Lola up, and placed her on his lap, covering her with a blanket.

Lola was raised by him and was closest to him. She nestled in his arms.

Frederick stroked her soft golden curls, carefully touching her bandaged little leg, and asked in a low voice, "Does it still hurt?"

"It hurts!" Lola clung to his neck, acting spoiled.

Frederick held her and kissed her.

He didn't speak, his heart heavy. The one most affected by this incident was him. He had never imagined that a youthful romance would bring such harm to Lola!

If Charlotte hadn't been there, he couldn't imagine the outcome.

He felt deeply sorry for Lola!

Lola seemed to sense his emotions and brought her little face close to kiss her daddy.

She was so small and so soft.

Frederick would trade everything for her lifelong well-being. He spoke in a low voice, "Tomorrow, the teacher will bring some kindergarten friends to visit you!"

Lola, usually confident, suddenly felt shy.

Frederick's tone was casual. "I heard Johnny is coming too!"

Lola, feeling seen through, got a bit angry.

She snuggled under the blanket and yawned. "Daddy, I want to sleep!"

Frederick, through the blanket, tugged at her curls.

He told her a story. "Once upon a time, there was a prince named Johnny..."

Lola snored softly. "Daddy, I'm asleep."

Frederick responded absentmindedly, gently patting her back, just like countless nights before, lulling his Lola to sleep.

To him, Lola was not just a child.

She was like a beacon of hope for their love to continue.
