Chapter 182 What should I do to earn your forgiveness?

A red slap mark bloomed on his cheek.

He didn't care about the slap; he just stared at Charlotte, his eyes dark and brooding.

Charlotte's heart ached so much she could hardly breathe.

She wasn't a robot; she felt pain too.

The things she tried so hard to forget, Frederick brought up again.

Charlotte's throat moved slightly.

She spoke in a restrained voice, "Frederick, some things can be bought with money, like this morning dew and these decorations. But feelings, once they're gone, they're gone. No amount of money can bring them back!"

Frederick watched her. He still thought she was beautiful and wanted to possess her.

But now, something was different.

After the incident, Charlotte had become an indispensable part of his life. He couldn't give her up. If he could, he wouldn't be in such a sorry state.

Frederick spoke with difficulty, "What do I have to do to make you forgive me?"

He understood women, especially Charlotte.

He knew she still had feelings for him. If she was angry or resentful, he was willing to make it up to her, no matter the cost.

Charlotte felt she couldn't continue the conversation with him.

She lowered her eyes and gave a bitter smile. "Frederick, when I wanted to talk to you, you didn't give me the chance. Now, why should I give you this chance? Take me back. I don't even have my phone with me."

Frederick's lips pressed tightly together.

In the end, he took her back to the hospital.

The car stopped. Charlotte unbuckled her seatbelt, ready to get out.

Frederick grabbed her arm, his gaze intense. "I brought in the best team of experts. They might have a way to treat your foot."

Charlotte stared ahead, expressionless. She said, "I don't need it anymore."

With that, she forcefully pulled her hand away, opened the door, and got out.

Frederick wanted to follow, but seeing her walking away with determination, he held himself back.

In the afternoon, Frederick was in a meeting at the office.

His phone rang. Seeing it was a call from the medical expert team, he gestured for the meeting to pause and answered the call.

On the other end, the foreign expert told him, "Mr. Hawkins, Miss Russell has refused our treatment. We regret to inform you that we will be returning to our country. Additionally, based on the current data, the chances of Miss Russell's foot nerve recovery are less than ten percent."

'Ten percent.' Frederick held the phone, expressionless.

That night, he went to the hospital, but Charlotte refused to see him again.

On the day Charlotte was discharged, Elijah came over.

He came specifically to see Charlotte and to plead for Katherine.

Charlotte spoke softly, "I won't drop the charges against Katherine."

Elijah was visibly taken aback.

He quietly gazed at the girl in front of him, who looked very much like Victoria, and had a similar temperament.

Elijah softened his voice. "No matter what, she is still your sister! Charlotte, can you give her a chance for my sake? I talked to Frederick about this, but he wouldn't help, so I can only come to you."

Charlotte was in a daze. Frederick wouldn't help, so they came to her? If Frederick had helped, would the Mitchell family be arrogantly taking her to court?

Charlotte's eyes grew moist. "Mr. Mitchell, my Dad's name is William."

Elijah didn't give up.

He spoke even more gently, "Savannah, my mother, is looking forward to seeing you. She's already on a flight over. Let's have a family gathering when she arrives. Listen to me, give Katherine a chance, and our family will be fine from now on."

'Forgive Katherine? Have a family gathering?'

Charlotte felt like she was listening to a joke that had nothing to do with her.

She gave a faint smile and looked up at Elijah. "Mr. Mitchell, can I ask why my mom left you back then? How did she leave you while pregnant, and how did you remarry so quickly?"

Elijah's face turned deathly pale.

That misunderstanding was a permanent scar in his heart.

Elijah left in a daze and went to the Hawkins family to seek help from Patrick.

Patrick received him in the study, and after some catching up, Elijah stated his purpose.

Patrick smiled after hearing him out.

In fact, he was quite dissatisfied with Elijah. If it weren't for Elijah seeking help last time, Frederick and Charlotte would probably already be engaged and planning their wedding by now. She was such a good girl, and now the two of them are impossible.

This time, Elijah came over, merely leveraging his own power.

Patrick smiled, patting Elijah on the shoulder. "Elijah, having Frederick step in will only make things worse! Young people, when it comes to matters of the heart, tend to act impulsively! I don't think Charlotte will easily let Katherine off. After all, it was Katherine who brought this upon herself."

Elijah was a bit anxious. "Do you have any solutions?"

Patrick smiled again. "There is one way, but I'm afraid you might not be able to swallow your pride."

Elijah humbly asked for advice.

As Patrick refilled the water, he said, "Katherine's actions were extreme! According to normal legal procedures, she won't get away with less than a year and a half. Why not get a certificate from the hospital stating she has a mental illness?"

Elijah was stunned. He looked at Patrick, truly not expecting him to suggest such a method.

Katherine and Frederick had no chance if Patrick thought this way. Elijah thought about it privately. Charlotte was his biological child, but she was smart, excellent, and sensible. Even if she missed out on Frederick, she could still have a good marriage. But Katherine was different, so from a selfish standpoint, he hoped more for Katherine to be with Frederick! Now, Patrick's attitude clearly indicated that the Hawkins family did not want Katherine as a daughter-in-law.

Elijah was stiff for a while before forcing a smile. "It is indeed a method."

Patrick knew he was unhappy, so he decided to be blunt. "Elijah, you need to have limits even when caring for your children! Besides, Charlotte is your biological child. Don't get confused about what's more important! I have high hopes for Charlotte, and Laura has consulted a fortune teller who said Frederick's wife is an Aries!"

Elijah understood the Hawkins family's stance.

They didn't like Katherine.

A pang of heartache swept through him. No matter how willful Katherine was, she was still his daughter.

He ran around, pulling strings to get a mental illness certificate.

Naturally, Katherine was released.

After a few days of torment, Katherine's former radiance had dimmed considerably.

The police told her, "You're lucky to have gotten a mental illness certificate! But we will follow up. Miss Mitchell, you must undergo at least half a month of treatment in a mental hospital, or this certificate will be void."

Katherine was nearly driven mad with anger.

She gritted her teeth. 'I would never let Charlotte off!'

At this moment, the police added, "It's best not to have dangerous thoughts. Miss Russell has applied for a protection order upon learning of your mental illness certificate. This means you cannot come within six feet of Charlotte, or we will immediately take you to the mental hospital upon notification."

With that, they escorted her to the car. "Let's go! Whether you're truly insane or not, you have to go through the process at the mental hospital."

Katherine struggled hysterically. "I want to see Frederick!"

The person escorting her sneered. "Mr. Hawkins doesn't want to see you!"

Katherine was completely stunned.
