Chapter 412 Andrew, I Don't Want You Anymore
Andrew glared at her, trying to keep his cool. "Is that what you think of me? You really think I just wanna hook up with you?"
Chloe didn't say it, but her eyes said it all. She turned away, muttering, "I'm going to my room to sleep!"
Before she could move, Andrew's hand was already on her shoulder.
His eyes were intense. "Sleep here! I'll go check on Gavin."
Chloe was fuming.
Gavin had been so excited when they got there, but seeing Andrew with other kids bummed him out. He was too scared to ask, and she had no clue how to explain.
Andrew was gone for about half an hour before he came back.
Chloe sat at the edge of the bed, lost in thought.
Andrew watched her quietly, not saying a word.
The room was dead silent.
They had their best memories in this bedroom.
Just as Chloe felt like she was gonna cry, Andrew's phone buzzed. He glanced at it and answered, sounding all sweet. "Molly?"
After a few words, Celeste took the phone and said softly, "Molly's got a fever! Andrew, can you find a good doctor for her?"
Andrew frowned. How did she get a fever out of nowhere?
Celeste's voice was soft. "Can you come over? Molly really needs you right now!"
Andrew didn't hesitate. "I'll send a doctor over!"
He made the call.
Chloe watched the whole thing, her face cold.
After he hung up, she asked softly, "Andrew, are you gonna take care of them forever? That's not your job, and she's not your kid!"
Andrew walked over and gently touched her head.
He whispered, "That kid is still Luke's. Because of my selfishness back then..."
Chloe's eyes widened. "Andrew, don't mix business with personal stuff!"
He told her to calm down.
Chloe took a deep breath. "The one who's not calm is you! Mr. Devereux, are you really feeling guilty about Luke, the kid, or Celeste? You're just making excuses to keep her in Copenhegan. What next? Planning to have a thing with her while visiting the kid, making another family outside our marriage?"
Her words stung, and Andrew got a bit mad.
"I didn't think that way!"
"Fine! I believe you!" Chloe said softly. "Can you promise not to get involved anymore? Andrew, I'm not like Charlotte, who can wait for someone for years and take all the hurt! Andrew, I can't and don't want to wait! If you can't do it, then let's end it!"
Saying this broke her heart.
This was the man she had loved for years. She didn't ask for much, but if he couldn't even do this, she was done.
Andrew clenched his fists. His face was dark, but he kept his temper in check. "Give me time to handle it!"
Chloe was about to say something when his phone rang again.
Andrew frowned but answered.
On the phone, Celeste said Molly had acute pneumonia and was running a high fever with convulsions.
Andrew unbuttoned his shirt, his voice low. "I'll be right there!"
After the call, he said softly, "I need to go over."
Chloe was calm. She asked, "The kid is Celeste's! Andrew, why is it your problem?"
She couldn't be the bigger person. Being the bigger person would only hurt her in the end.
Andrew was silent for a moment, then said, "I owe Luke."
He changed his shirt and told her to sleep well, saying he'd send her and Gavin back to Syeattel in the morning.
Chloe turned her back to him without a word.
Andrew still left, and soon she heard the car engine in the yard.
Tears slid down Chloe's cheeks. She cried silently. She wasn't the naive girl she used to be; even when crying, she wouldn't let it last too long.
Sleep? Yeah, right. Chloe got up and threw on a coat.
The spring night was chilly, and a light drizzle started falling.
Standing by the window, she stared out at the water reflecting the streetlights, blending into the dark night.
She stood there for ages, her mind totally blank. Eventually, she wandered into the living room.
On the dark floral cabinet, there was a photo frame. It was a picture of the three of them as a family. Gavin was on Andrew's shoulders, smiling shyly and adorably.
Chloe felt her eyes sting. She quickly put the photo frame down, not daring to look again.
Later, she packed a simple suitcase, planning to take Gavin back to Syeattel at dawn. She had an appointment at noon, one she had begged to reschedule, and she couldn't miss it.
Andrew arrived at the hospital late at night.
Molly was in surgery.
Celeste was waiting outside the operating room. When she saw Andrew, her face was full of vulnerability. "Molly will be okay, right?"
Andrew ignored her.
At that moment, a chief doctor came over and explained the situation to Andrew.
He said the kid's condition was caused by catching a cold and advised the parents to take better care in the future.
After talking with the doc, Andrew finally looked at Celeste.
His tone was cold. "You can let Luke's parents raise Molly! That way, you can start a new family."
Celeste looked at him quietly.
"A new family?" She raised her broken hand. "Andrew, tell me, who would want a woman with a broken hand? Would you?"
Andrew knew this argument was coming. He was kinda tired of Celeste's drama.
Leaning against the wall, he lit a cigarette and said softly, "I can't! Not because you have a broken hand, but because I have no feelings for you anymore!"
Celeste's eyes were full of hatred.
She and Andrew were a perfect match, but he refused to want her.
But it didn't matter; she still had Molly.
She didn't argue with Andrew anymore but waited quietly, like a pair of anxious parents. Even the doctor thought she was Andrew's wife and called her Mrs. Devereux.
"The kid is fine now! But you need to take good care of her in the future. She's still young."
Andrew thanked the doc.
At that moment, Molly was wheeled directly to the VIP ward by a nurse. Andrew went to check on her, and Celeste said softly, "Andrew, everyone thinks we are a perfect match!"
Andrew's eyes were icy. He sneered. "Celeste, don't you remember how you lost your hand?"
Of course, Celeste remembered.
Andrew had done it himself for Chloe, so she was unwilling to let go.
Fortunately, she had a kid. With this kid, Andrew would always live in guilt.
Andrew went to the ward to see Molly.
Molly was a year or two older than Gavin, and her features bore a resemblance to Luke.
As dawn broke, Molly woke up.
She opened her round eyes, looked at Andrew, and spoke like a kitten, "Andrew."
Andrew patted her little head. He said softly, "It's okay! Molly, just sleep a bit more, and you'll be fine."
Molly obediently closed her eyes. Her little face was serene and adorable.
Andrew talked with the doc for a while, and then his phone rang again. It was the Devereux Mansion's landline.
He thought it was Adeline calling to scold him.
Planning to explain when he got back, he didn't answer.
Molly was already asleep, and all her vital signs were normal.
Andrew stood up.
Celeste was standing by the door, her beautiful face thoughtful.
Andrew spoke softly, "Luke's parents are well-off. If Molly goes to live with the Jackson family, it would be a good choice. Think about it carefully!"
Celeste smiled faintly.
He just wanted her to go to Lumina Bay City! Other than Molly, they weren't even friends.
Andrew didn't say much and drove straight back to the Devereux Family Mansion.
When Andrew got to the Devereux Mansion, Chloe and Gavin were nowhere to be found.
The servant said, "Gavin had an appendicitis attack and was taken to the hospital!"
Andrew was floored.
He immediately called Chloe. When she picked up, he asked in a hoarse voice, "Which hospital are you at?"
He expected her to cry or freak out.
But Chloe calmly told him the location and then hung up.
Andrew felt a wave of frustration wash over him. At this moment, he didn't even know how to explain to Chloe. No matter how many reasons he had, it didn't change the fact that she had to handle Gavin's illness alone.
He rushed to the hospital.
Nathan had arrived before him and ran over, sweating profusely when he saw Andrew. "You finally made it!"
Andrew's face was pale as he hurried to the operating room.
Chloe was standing in the hallway.
The lighting was dim, and she had her head down, making it hard to see her expression.
Adeline was standing nearby, leaning on a cane.
Andrew walked over quietly and called out, "Mom!"
Adeline sneered. "I don't deserve that!"
Andrew said bitterly, "At a time like this, please don't mock me. How is Gavin?"
Chloe answered him.
Her voice was light and calm. "It's a minor surgery! But Gavin was very scared. He kept asking if his dad was back."
After speaking, she looked at him. In those beautiful eyes, besides indifference, there was a hint of disappointment.
Andrew walked over and placed his hand on her thin shoulder.
Chloe gently pushed him away.
She sat down next to Adeline, remaining silent and refusing to speak to him.
Nathan was also angry with him, but given the heavy atmosphere, he tried to lighten the mood. "None of us have had breakfast, right? I'll go get some."
Andrew had no appetite. He instructed Nathan to buy sandwiches, Chloe's favorite.
Nathan ran several blocks to find the chain store and brought them back.
Chloe didn't eat. She shook her head lightly. "Thank you, but no need."
After a sleepless night, even the most beautiful face would look haggard. She wasn't as young as she used to be, and her tired eyes were fixed on the operating room door, worried about Gavin.
Andrew sensed a kind of distance from her.
She loved him very much. But when she was disappointed and reverted to her role as a mother, he was no longer as important.
Andrew felt a deep sense of loss.
He spoke gently, "Please eat a little."
Mindful of Adeline's presence, Chloe didn't lose her temper but didn't show him any kindness either.
Facing this emotional crisis, she chose to handle it coldly.
Andrew wiped his face and stood silently against the opposite wall.
Gavin had a minimally invasive surgery.
It took less than an hour, but it was still surgery, and he looked very weak when he was wheeled out.
He was a delicate and handsome boy.
Seeing Andrew approach, his big eyes filled with tears, and he whimpered, "Daddy."
Andrew felt terrible. He bent down and kissed Gavin, his voice hoarse. "Does it hurt?"
Gavin first said it didn't hurt. Then, as if remembering something, he pursed his lips and said nothing.
Andrew's heart ached. He patted Gavin's little head and said softly, "Close your eyes and rest. I'm here."
Gavin obediently closed his eyes.
Due to their special status, the hospital arranged the best room for them, as clean and bright as a hotel suite.
Andrew, worried about Adeline's health, asked her to go home first.
"You should go rest. I'll have the driver bring you back when Gavin wakes up."
Adeline, being sharp, noticed the tension between him and Chloe and intentionally gave them space.
Adeline left.
The doctor and nurse came to check on Gavin and then left. Nathan stayed in the small lounge outside, not daring to disturb them.
The atmosphere was subtle.
Chloe took a warm towel to wipe Gavin's face. Then she sat quietly, lost in thought.
Andrew crouched in front of her, gently holding her hand, and said softly, "Chloe, let's talk."
"Talk about what?" Her tone was somewhat dull.
Andrew whispered, "I'm trying to convince her to let the Jackson family raise the child."
Chloe smiled faintly. She lowered her eyes, feeling a bit sad. "Andrew, do you really not understand women? Her target is you. How could she possibly let someone else raise her child? Yes, you should try, but why should I wait for you? In the future, Celeste will have many excuses. The child needs to go to school, the child is sick, or the child is in a bad mood!"
Andrew was stunned.
Chloe turned her head slightly, her voice softening. "I don't want to discuss this topic with you! I want results."
Seeing her sad expression, Andrew slowly said, "Once she's discharged, I won't see her again."
Such a promise didn't make Chloe happy.
She withdrew her hand, took her phone, and walked out of the room to call her agent.
Yesterday, she had promised not to miss work and had begged to come to Copenhegan, but now she had broken that promise.
Chloe held her phone, her voice very low.
Her tone was even humble, very polite.
Andrew stood by the door, quietly watching her, seeing her long hair draped over her pale face, noticing her wearing a shirt dress but not having time to groom herself properly.
After finishing the call, Chloe turned and saw Andrew.
His eyes were deep.
Chloe tried to walk past him, but he reached out and grabbed her.
The difference in strength between them was clear.
With a pull, she was forced into his arms, her face pressed against his shoulder.
He had a faint scent of cologne, a woody fragrance.
She guessed it was from Celeste being close to him.
She couldn't help but care, so she whispered directly, "Don't touch me! You smell like her."
Andrew was stunned.
He didn't let go but whispered in her ear, "There's nothing between us! I just feel sorry for Molly."
"So, you let your son have surgery without seeing his dad?"
Chloe pushed him away.
Andrew wanted to pull her back, but she raised her hand and said seriously, "Andrew! Don't do this!"
She looked at him.
Andrew slowly straightened up. He wanted to say something but couldn't find the words.
Their first argument had been earth-shattering.
He was always busy, with many work to handle, and worried about Chloe being tired, so he arranged for a nurse to take care of Gavin. After making all the arrangements, he said softly, "Get some rest on the couch! I'll come back when I'm done."
Chloe ignored him.
Andrew's Adam's apple bobbed twice, and he finally left first.
Sitting in the car, Nathan finally relaxed and said sincerely, "I told you from the beginning, you shouldn't have taken responsibility for that child. I can see Chloe is very resentful."
Andrew sat in the back seat, clenching his fist.
He didn't want to be involved either, but that was a living little girl.
If he didn't intervene, who knew how Celeste would treat her.
At that moment, Celeste called again.
Andrew, feeling annoyed, handed the phone to Nathan. Nathan understood and answered, listening for a while before saying, "Mr. Devereux's son is ill. Unfortunately, he can't be in two places at once! Celeste, why don't you contact Luke's family? They would surely be willing to help you take care of the child."
Celeste's voice was cold. "He told you to say that, didn't he?"
Nathan chuckled awkwardly.
Celeste hung up.
He pointed at the phone and complained to Andrew, "Look at that, how rude."
Andrew adjusted his shirt and thought for a moment. "Send the DNA documents to the Jackson family and find a reliable lawyer to help them fight for custody of Molly."
Nathan smiled. "That's the best solution!"
