Chapter 482 So, He Is Gavin (Part 1)
Gavin's heart twinged as he watched her crouched there, hugging the Labrador. He had this sudden urge to get out of the car, walk over, and lift her up.
Gavin thought, 'Isn't this what I wanted when I first got close to her? Why am I hesitating? I ended things with her. Soon, I'll be engaged to Sarah, and Molly will find her own happiness.'
Gavin rolled up the car window and drove off without a second glance.
The villa's glass door swung open, and Clayton stepped out. He stood under the porch light, watching Molly.
Clayton had known her for years. He was two years older than her. When they first met, she was even more fragile and sensitive, with a hint of depression. Back then, Clayton had been through many relationships, so he never thought of making a move on her until she started dating Gavin. Clayton didn't want to reveal Gavin's true identity; now that they had broken up, it was better to leave it as a mistake.
He watched her for a while before softly saying, "Your mom called earlier. She's coming over tomorrow."
Molly paused. After a long moment, she said, "I'm fine, don't tell her."
Clayton sighed, "I didn't! But you need to take your meds."
Clayton was really worried; Molly had been noticeably down these past few days, showing signs of depression. Her illness hadn't flared up in years. Thinking of the jerk who caused her relapse, he wished he could punch Gavin.
But Clayton had no clue about the connection between the Green Group and the Devereux Family, nor why Gavin approached Molly. He just thought it was some rich kid's game.
After hearing his words, Molly took a while to snap out of it.
She let go of the Labrador.
Clayton patted her shoulder and gently said, "Come on, take your meds."
She didn't resist and followed him inside.
Clayton got her a glass of water and handed her the pills. Molly took them silently.
Molly was always obedient and rarely lost her temper. The only rebellious thing she ever did was date Gavin, which Clayton had strongly opposed, saying it would affect her work. But the real reason was he feared Gavin would mess with her feelings.
Clayton took the half-empty glass and headed to the kitchen when Molly's voice came from behind.
Her voice was small but firm. "Clayton, I will forget him."
Clayton paused, then after a moment, he responded with a hoarse "Hmm" and left. He smoked two cigarettes in the kitchen to calm his nerves. He wanted so badly to punch Gavin. That jerk had hurt someone as innocent as Molly.
The next morning, Amanda arrived. Clayton picked her up at the airport, and in the car, Amanda worriedly asked about Molly's condition.
Clayton, driving, thought for a moment and said in a relaxed tone, "It might be the change in weather that's affecting her mood. Don't worry."
Amanda sighed, "Nathan and I have always been uneasy about her being alone in Syeattel. Thank you for taking care of her."
Clayton grinned, "It's my duty! I rely on Molly for work!" And he wasn't kidding. Molly was a top designer in the industry, with celebs and socialites lining up for her designs, bringing in a ton of cash. Clayton was raking it in too.
An hour later, they pulled up to Clayton's place, and Molly was already waiting outside.
Clayton grabbed two big bags from the trunk and smiled, "The housekeeper brought these for you."
Molly gave Amanda a gentle hug and softly called her mom.
Amanda doted on her, patting her head and chatting as they went inside, mostly about Nathan and Molly's brother. Molly listened quietly.
Amanda had a special mission this time. She'd heard from Adeline that Gavin was going on a blind date. Molly was a year older than him and still single, which often worried Nathan. Molly was beautiful and talented, so why was she still single?
Nathan had some connections in Seattle, so he sent Amanda over, partly to visit Molly and partly to find her a match, but without pressuring her. The decision had to be hers.
Amanda could tell that Clayton liked Molly.
As a parent, she hoped to entrust her child to someone she knew. Besides, Molly's personality needed someone gentle and understanding, and Clayton knew her well.
Amanda decided to hold off on the blind dates. She wanted to observe a bit more.
Clayton cooked dinner himself, and his skills earned Amanda's praise. Amanda looked at Molly, hesitated for a moment, and thought that Clayton could take care of Molly. After weighing it over, she decided not to ask Molly to move out.
But Molly herself said, "After dinner, let's go to my apartment!"
After Molly spoke, Clayton took a sip of red wine and casually said, "There are plenty of empty rooms here, you both can stay here."
"I want to go back," Molly said softly.
Clayton looked at her, silent for a long time.
Amanda smiled and said, "Molly is worried I won't be comfortable here! How about this, I'll stay at Molly's place, and Clayton, you can take me out tomorrow."
Clayton agreed. He had been a bit out of line earlier. He and Molly weren't in a romantic relationship, so he had no right to demand anything from her.
Amanda finally relaxed. After dinner, Clayton saw them off.
When Molly went to the guest room to pack, he followed her in, took the luggage from her hands, and neatly folded the clothes, "Clumsy!"
Molly looked at him.
Clayton patted her head, "Spend some good time with Amanda these days."
He also packed her medication. Organized by type, with labels on the bottles indicating how many to take each meal.
Molly softly said, "Clayton, you don't have to be so good to me!"
"I'm just serving my boss! Is that okay?" Clayton said a bit gruffly, then picked up her luggage and strode downstairs.
Molly stood there, watching quietly for a while.
She knew a bit about Clayton's feelings. But after knowing each other for eight years, they had become like family, and she had just come out of a relationship. She didn't care much about chastity, but she had her limits.
Molly's apartment hadn't been lived in for three months, but Clayton had someone clean it regularly, or Amanda would definitely get suspicious.
Molly wouldn't bring up her breakup with "Tony."
Amanda walked into the room, put down her luggage, and affectionately said, "Clayton is really good to you!"
Molly nodded.
Amanda smiled, "You know what I mean."
Molly rarely did housework, but she was very filial to Nathan and Amanda. When Amanda came over, she took the initiative to make a cup of coffee. The two sat on the dark leather sofa, drinking and chatting.
During their conversation, Amanda thought about mentioning Andrew and Chloe, but she decided against it!
Years of unresolved issues, or maybe Molly had long given up hope of seeing Andrew again!
Amanda spoke softly about her son's situation: he was married, living abroad, and his wife was now pregnant.
Molly held her mug and smiled lightly, "I'll send them a gift later."
Amanda refused. "You always buy such expensive gifts. Save money for yourself. Nathan and I have already saved up a sum for your wedding."
Molly softly said, "Thank you, Mom."
Amanda always felt that Molly wasn't doing well, as if she had something on her mind. But considering her illness, it was understandable. So she urged her to rest.
Amanda efficiently tidied up the apartment again, then went to a nearby membership store to buy some groceries. She made corn chowder right away.
In the bedroom, Molly lay on the bed. Her slender body curled up, her heart aching intensely. Amanda's words had reminded her of the wedding she had once hoped for with that person not long ago.
She had even secretly drawn a wedding dress design but tore it up when she left that apartment.
Molly, half-awake, often dreamed she was still in that apartment, thinking the past few days were just a nightmare.
Waking up drenched in sweat, she sat on the bed, slightly dazed. It wasn't a dream; she had really broken up with him! He told her to leave; he said he never liked her!
As dusk fell, Amanda came in gently, calling her to dinner.
Molly hugged Amanda tightly, "Mom!"
Amanda stroked her hair, "What's wrong?"
Molly gently shook her head. She didn't want to lie to Amanda, so she softly said she had liked someone, but they had broken up.
Amanda felt sad hearing this.
Molly's small face rested on her shoulder, softly saying, "He doesn't like me."
Amanda didn't ask much. She just gently stroked Molly's hair, softly saying, "Molly is wonderful."
Molly softly said, "Don't tell Dad."
Amanda nodded, "Alright, I won't tell him! He's gotten more impulsive with age, not as refined as he used to be."
Molly smiled faintly.
Amanda decided to stay in Syeattel for a while longer.
The next morning, Clayton drove over to take them out for lunch.
Clayton invited her to sit in the front, saying the view was better. Then Amanda got in.
When the car stopped in front of the Infinity Shores Hotel, Clayton unbuckled his seatbelt and smiled, "The food here is the best. You'll love it."
Amanda was quite pleased. She was mainly happy to take Molly out to relax.
The restaurant, located on the first floor of the hotel, featured huge glass walls and crystal chandeliers hanging above, exuding luxury and grandeur.
It was lunchtime, and the place was almost full. Fortunately, Clayton had reserved a table. Clayton introduced the restaurant's specialties to Amanda as they walked. Molly followed behind.
Suddenly, Clayton fell silent. Molly gently looked up, and her gaze froze too. She saw "Tony." He sat with a group of people, among whom was a girl around his age. She was young and beautiful.
Three days after their breakup, he was on a blind date!
It turned out, he not only didn't like her, but he never even considered her his girlfriend. What really mattered was that the people next to him were Andrew and Chloe. Molly's face turned pale, her lips started to tremble. He was actually Gavin!
Everything made sense now. Their meeting, his pursuits, the whispered sweet nothings at night—all of it was not only false but also tinged with his desire for revenge. He had never liked her; in fact, he despised her.
Molly froze. The pain she felt now was worse than when he told her to leave and never come back.
Gavin saw her too. He looked at her calmly, without any emotion, as if he had never known her and those intimate, passionate nights had never existed.
The atmosphere was tense. Andrew finally noticed something was wrong and followed Gavin's gaze.
He was stunned. It was Molly.
He hadn't seen her in many years, only hearing from Nathan that she was doing well and had become successful.
He never expected to see her in Syeattel.
Amanda also felt uneasy. She hadn't expected to run into them here.
Finally, Chloe noticed them too.
Amanda smiled, "Gavin is on a date! I came to see Molly; she's been feeling unwell these past few days."
Chloe, after a brief pause, remembered seeing her at the hospital yesterday and smiled, "Is it serious? Do you need help finding a specialist?"
Molly said nothing, just shook her head.
Chloe, seeing her reluctance to talk, felt a bit sorry. She looked at Clayton, "Is this Molly's boyfriend?"
Clayton smiled, put his arm around Molly's shoulder, and said deliberately, "Yes! Molly and I have been together for eight years! If all goes well, we'll get married before Gavin. I'll definitely send you an invitation."
Andrew, with a deep look, felt there was something off in his words!
After speaking, Clayton looked down at Molly, her eyes filled with tears.
Clayton gritted his teeth, "Sorry, but I'm suddenly feeling nauseated by the swine here. I'll take my leave." Then, he politely asked Amanda and Molly if they would like to leave as well.
Amanda, feeling uneasy, agreed, and the three of them quickly left.
Clayton kept his arm around Molly's shoulder. Because if he let go even a little, Molly would almost collapse. She was holding on, not wanting to embarrass herself in front of the Devereux Family and lose her composure. She was desperately maintaining her last bit of dignity.
