Chapter 545 Johnny, Did You Get A Vasectomy?
Johnny's face got a bit red.
He glanced down at Lola in his arms, feeling a mix of pity and affection, and couldn't resist kissing her.
Lola had had enough, so he scooped her up and held her tight.
Much later, he gently patted her. "How about a bath?"
Lola let him carry her to the bathroom.
He was full of energy, and even while washing, he still wanted more. Lola, clinging to his neck, whispered, "Next time! Johnny. Are you even human?"
Johnny chuckled softly.
The night was deep, and after they were done, they snuggled comfortably under the covers. Lola kicked him. "You're really not going back?"
Johnny found her lips and kissed her gently.
After a while, he pressed his lips against hers and said, "Do you still want me to leave now?"
Lola looked at him with a bit of tenderness in her eyes.
Johnny gently stroked her shoulder. "After doing it so many times, I don't have the strength to go home! My legs are weak!"
Lola's cheeks flushed slightly. "If you don't want to go back, just stay. Aren't you embarrassed saying such cheeky things?"
Johnny smiled slightly. He gently touched her lips, leaned in for a kiss, and then pressed his forehead against hers. "You weren't shy at all just now! Now you're done with me?"
Lola tried to turn away, but he wouldn't let her, watching her under the dim bedroom light.
His gaze was incredibly clear, full of emotion and desire.
Lola had no choice but to meet his gaze. After a long while, she leaned on his shoulder and spoke, "Are you Johnny? It clearly is you, but I feel like it's not."
The Johnny from their youth wasn't like this. Even when he first returned from Kyro, he wasn't like this.
Lola felt a sense of unreality.
Johnny's heart stirred, feeling a mix of bitterness and sweetness.
Perhaps they had both had others in their lives, but over the years, they still only had each other. Despite his efforts to escape it, fate still left Lola with him.
Johnny suddenly pulled Lola into a tight embrace.
Lola found him annoying and resisted, but he lowered his head to kiss her. Young men and women never know moderation; they could fool around until dawn and then get up to go to work.
In the morning, while Lola was having breakfast, she felt a soreness in her waist.
She wondered if she was getting old.
Johnny sat across from her, impeccably dressed, with neatly trimmed hair.
He was focused on the ring on her finger, the one he had given her, and Lola wore it without hesitation.
Lola finished her breakfast. Just as she was about to get up to grab her coat and briefcase, Johnny suddenly spoke, "Lola, let's get married!"
Lola was stunned. She looked at him, unable to process it for a moment. She had imagined countless romantic proposals, but never expected it would happen on such an ordinary morning, right after breakfast as they were getting ready for work, when he suddenly proposed. The sequence seemed reversed.
Lola slowly sat down, and under the light, the ring on her finger sparkled.
This apartment was where her parents had lived.
She might have even been conceived here.
Now Johnny was proposing to her, and Lola knew she wanted it too, but the words "I do" lingered on her lips for a long time, feeling not quite serious enough.
"Still need to think about it? In what way am I not satisfying you? My body, my sexual ability, or something else?"
Lola's cheeks turned red, and she lightly bit her lip. "I'll tell you tonight!"
Johnny laughed. "Nighttime isn't for serious talks! Nighttime is for fun."
Lola wrinkled her nose a bit. She insisted on discussing it tonight.
Johnny walked her downstairs, opened the car door, and put her briefcase inside. As she sat in the car, he bent down to kiss her, his voice low and gentle. "Lola, if you say yes, you'll have the perfect husband."
Lola fastened her seatbelt and smiled. "You really dare to say that!"
She looked up at him. "But last night was really great!"
Johnny's Adam's apple bobbed, and he wished he could drag her back to the apartment and go at it a few more times! She really drove him crazy.
Lola went to the office, feeling on top of the world.
The morning wasn't busy, so she played some pool, but she kept thinking about Johnny's words.
Getting married actually sounded pretty good.
Just then, a college friend called, inviting her to a wedding. Lola, who had a good relationship with her, readily agreed.
The friend casually asked, "How about you? Have you found someone suitable?"
Lola was known in her circle for being single.
At this moment, she couldn't help but feel a bit vain and lightly coughed. "Actually, I have a boyfriend recently! Things are going well, and we might get married soon!"
The friend quickly congratulated her!
After hanging up, Lola touched her face, feeling a bit stiff.
Was she smiling too much?
Lola was in such a good mood that she decided to play another game.
Just then, her secretary knocked on the door. "Ms. Hawkins, Miss Martin is here to see you. She says she's a classmate of yours."
Was that Melissa?
Lola frowned slightly; she didn't want to see her. But since she was already at the door, not seeing her would only lead to more trouble in other situations. After thinking it over, she agreed. "Let her in! And bring another glass of water."
The secretary answered, ''Okay, ma'am.''
A moment later, she brought Melissa in.
It had only been a few days, but Melissa looked much more haggard, showing no signs of pregnancy.
Lola sized her up, and Melissa looked at Lola.
Melissa was jealous.
From childhood to adulthood, she had always been a top student.
Even because of her hard work, her piano skills were slightly better than Lola's. But what was the use? At this age, the differences were clear.
Lola, at a young age, was already one of the top lawyers in Syeattel. But Melissa still had to rely on Travis to support her.
Fate was just that unfair! But there was one thing that was fair: she could have children, and the child she was carrying belonged to Johnny's family.
Thinking of this, Melissa felt more confident.
Lola smiled faintly. "What do you want?"
After speaking, she bent down and made a shot.
Melissa stared at her, looking at her long legs and slender waist, feeling envious just by looking. Was Johnny holding her waist when they slept together?
Lola looked up and met her gaze.
Lola snorted lightly. "Not enough men for you to look at, and now you're interested in me?"
Melissa sneered. "I really don't know what Johnny sees in you! Maybe he'll regret it soon. Otherwise, why would he hold back?"
Lola remained calm.
Melissa couldn't hold back any longer and her smile grew colder. "Lola, you probably don't know, but Johnny doesn't want to have children with you. He had a vasectomy! So even if you get married, you won't have kids. My child will be his only heir!"
Lola didn't care about the messy relationship; she was just shocked that Johnny had a vasectomy.
Why did he do that? Why didn't he want kids with her?
Lola guessed the reason: he was probably afraid something might happen to her, but she was perfectly capable of getting pregnant.
In that moment, she felt a pang of disappointment, but her strong personality didn't want to give Melissa the satisfaction of seeing her upset. So she said calmly, "That's between us!"
"Is it? If it's between you two, why didn't he tell you?"
Lola didn't answer.
Melissa guessed she was uncomfortable and took two steps closer, whispering, "I've been with him! I probably know his personality better than you do! Do you really think he had a good time with the Hawkins Family? If he did, why did he leave back then? And how much security have you given him now? Johnny and I are the same kind of people; we are the ones who are truly compatible."
Lola replied lightly, "It seems you're not only pregnant but also delusional. What you wanted to say is probably just that! Don't let the door hit you on the way out."
She had already issued an order to leave.
Melissa scrutinized Lola's expression. She wanted to see something, but Lola didn't want to lose her composure in front of her and said calmly, "You can leave now!"
The secretary also came over to escort her out.
After Melissa left, Lola slumped onto the sofa, tossing the pool cue aside.
The secretary kindly asked, "Ms. Hawkins, should I bring you a cup of coffee?"
Lola waved her hand lightly, leaning back on the sofa.
She closed her eyes and said softly, "No need! You can go out and close the door."
The secretary, knowing she had something on her mind, quickly left to give her some privacy.
Lola was indeed deeply shaken.
Johnny had a vasectomy!
She thought back to a week ago when he said he was feeling weak and then went on a business trip to Bostan. When she followed him, he used other methods and didn't actually have sex. It must have been during those days.
When he recovered, he acted as if everything was normal.
Lola couldn't help but think, if she hadn't asked, would she never have known they couldn't have children?
She had the impulse to call him and ask. But ultimately, as an adult, she knew better than to act on words meant to provoke.
By evening, Lola was in no mood. She didn't even want to go home. She drove aimlessly to the downtown area, parked her car, and wandered around. Johnny called her twice, asking when she would be home for dinner.
Under the streetlights, Lola answered his call.
The light cast a glow on her face, making it look soft.
She knew Johnny must have prepared a lot of delicious food for tonight and might even have a gift ready, but she just didn't want to go home. She heard him say a lot of things, his voice so gentle it made her feel dazed.
Finally, she spoke softly, "Johnny, Melissa came to see me."
"What did she come to you for?" On the other end, Johnny frowned slightly, thinking Melissa had gone to cause trouble for Lola. "I'll handle this."
Lola said softly, "She just told me one thing."
There was a brief silence on both ends of the phone.
After a moment, Lola continued, "She said you had a vasectomy."
Johnny's breathing became a bit rapid. Lola thought, 'This must be true.'
She wouldn't question how Melissa knew. She only cared about what he had to say.
Lola's voice tightened. "You proposed to me, so you should tell me about the future! Shouldn't we decide our future together? Johnny, I don't like this!"
He did it for her own good. But she should have known; otherwise, she might have spent her life thinking she couldn't have children, feeling guilty for not giving him a complete family.
Lola's nose turned slightly red. She hadn't felt this vulnerable in years. She felt that it shouldn't be this way.
On the phone, after a long silence, Johnny finally spoke, "Lola, come home. Let's talk."
Lola lowered her eyes. "Johnny, I'm a bit angry."
"I know!" His tone was humble. "Let me explain, okay? Come back, or tell me where you are, and I'll come get you!"
Lola was in a bad mood and indeed couldn't drive. She said she would take a cab, but Johnny insisted on picking her up. Finally, she told him the address.
Johnny arrived quickly and found Lola at Prosperity Square 20 minutes later, absorbed in watching kids chase pigeons.
Johnny walked over, squatted down beside her, and gently touched her hair. "It's late; time to go home! All the other kids have gone home."
Lola turned to him, sniffing after a long while. "Cut it out!"
Johnny pulled her up. "Are you hungry? Do you want to eat out or go home?"
Lola thought it would be better to talk outside because being around more people would encourage self-restraint.
They went to a well-known restaurant, but neither of them had much of an appetite.
Finally, they got to the main topic.
Johnny spoke in a low voice, "Lola, it was wrong of me to hide it from you, but our child has a certain chance of having a blood disorder! If born with such suffering, it's better not to have one."
Lola blinked gently. After a long time, she whispered, "Johnny, if that's the case, my mom could have given up on having me! Because I was destined to suffer a lot from birth! But she still had me, and my dad spent three years saving me! Before deciding, you seem to have forgotten that we are the parents. We could consult a doctor before pregnancy, not make such a unilateral decision to have a vasectomy!"
Johnny looked at her.
The expression in his eyes told her he hadn't softened.
Lola understood that his life experiences were different from hers, and they couldn't empathize with each other in some aspects.
She felt somewhat disappointed but still mustered the strength to say, "Let's leave it at that for today."
Johnny wisely didn't push further.
He paid the bill and took her home. Seeing she had no appetite, he made her a light soup.
"I'm fine!" Lola smiled faintly.
Johnny watched her sip the soup, then bent down and hugged her from behind, his voice low. "Lola, we can adopt a child. We can still give them love!"
Lola didn't want to argue with him and forced a smile. "We'll talk about it later!"
He stared at her intently. "Are you regretting it?"
Lola gently put down the bowl. She lowered her eyes and whispered, "Johnny, do you really want me to spell it out? You had the vasectomy, you kept it a secret, and now you won't let me have a say or time to think. Do I have to agree with you today, or else I'm not worth your effort, is that it? If that's the case..."
Her voice tightened, but she didn't finish.
Johnny watched her quietly.
