Chapter 694 Katelyn Is Not My Child!

After Eden finished talking, Caitlyn couldn't hold back her tears. She whispered, "Mom, I never thought about being with him! What happened between us was ages ago, it's all history now!" Tears started to fill her eyes as she spoke.

Eden saw right through her but didn't call her out. She just said, "Finish your meal and get some rest! Help me buy the train ticket."

Caitlyn put down her fork. "Bring a gift for me when you visit them! Just stay for a few days. Why live there permanently? You have a daughter! I won't agree to it."

Hearing this, Eden felt a sense of relief.

After dinner, Eden cleaned up the dishes while Caitlyn headed to her room for a shower. After her shower, Caitlyn heard the rain outside, along with the rustling of leaves. She hesitated for a moment but still walked over to the window.

The black Rolls-Royce was still parked there, with the driver's side window half-open, and gray smoke drifting out, showing that Landon was sitting in the car smoking.

Caitlyn watched for a bit, then closed the curtains. She didn't want to deal with him. She knew that after breaking up with Leonard, Landon felt free to pursue her since they were both single.

But what about the past three years? What about his marriage? He had a wife and kid, and now he said he liked Caitlyn. Wasn't that absurd?

Caitlyn leaned against the headboard, trying to read a book about education. But the sound of the rain was too distracting, so she turned off the light and put on headphones to sleep.

Early in the morning, Eden brought breakfast and said, "That car was parked downstairs all night! It's too noticeable. Tell him not to park there again! The neighbors will talk."

Caitlyn, sipping her milk, felt a bit uneasy. She said, "Okay, I'll tell him when I go downstairs."

After breakfast, she changed clothes and went downstairs with her briefcase.

The air was fresh after the rain.

She took a deep breath, walked straight to Landon's car, and knocked on the window.

The window rolled down, revealing his slightly tired but still handsome face. Landon, who looked like he hadn't slept all night, stared at her quietly. He said, "Get in. I'll drive you."

But Caitlyn didn't budge. She thought for a moment and said, "I have my car! I just came to tell you, don't come here anymore. We were impossible in the past, impossible now, and even more impossible in the future!"

Landon chuckled softly and said, "What, is my car bothering you? Did you buy this place? If so, I'll move it next time."

Caitlyn was fuming; he was doing this on purpose.

She turned to leave, but Landon quickly got out of the car, gently grabbed her arm, and pulled her back. Before she could resist, he whispered, "You don't want the neighbors to see you struggling with me, do you?"

Caitlyn leaned back in the seat, looking down as Landon fastened her seatbelt. After a moment of silence, she said softly, "Landon, we can't even be friends."

She didn't want to give him any false hope.

She unbuckled the seatbelt, pushed him away, and got out of the car. As the door closed, she heard his hoarse voice. "Caitlyn, give me another chance!"

Caitlyn's lips trembled, and she lowered her eyes. But she was determined to leave him behind.

After a few steps, she saw Leonard standing across the street, looking just as rough as Landon, holding a bag of milk and a loaf of bread.

Leonard thought he hadn't been attentive enough, so he came early to make amends. Unexpectedly, he saw this scene.

Leonard, a proud man who had always been the pride of the Dobbins family, felt betrayed by Caitlyn! He thought she didn't forgive him because she wanted to get back with Landon.

Leonard gritted his teeth and said, "Caitlyn, I just had a meal with Clio. But are you and Mr. Carter really that innocent? You went to see his child right after leaving the hospital. That child is actually your illegitimate daughter, right? No wonder you were abroad for three years, you went to have a child, didn't you?"

"I never thought you were such a bitch!" He spat out harshly.

Hearing this, Caitlyn felt a sharp pain in her heart. She didn't care about Leonard's misunderstanding but was hurt by the mention of those three years. Only she knew how hard those years were. It was easy not to love someone, but letting go was hard.

She looked at Leonard, about to speak.

Yet Landon got out of the car, and the door accidentally hit Leonard's shoulder, causing him to stumble. Then Landon punched him, saying, "Shut up!"

He hit hard, causing Leonard's body to slam against the expensive Rolls-Royce. But Landon didn't care. He grabbed Leonard's collar and sneered, "You're not worthy of her."

Leonard was injured on his face and body. But at that moment, he was filled with rage and humiliation, feeling betrayed by a woman who went with a rich man. He grabbed Landon's collar, and they started fighting.

Caitlyn wanted to leave but couldn't! The two men were going at it hard, Leonard fighting like a madman, and Landon looking like he wanted to kill him!

Eventually, the ruckus got the attention of community security, and the cops were called. Leonard and Landon were hauled off to the police station, and Caitlyn, as a witness, had to go and give a statement.

In the spacious, empty room, Leonard, like a caged animal, had calmed down and regretted his words and actions—not because he hurt Caitlyn, but because he feared they would mess up his future.

He said coldly, "Caitlyn, I agree to let go! Let's settle this; making a big deal out of it won't help anyone."

Before Caitlyn could respond, Landon sneered, "What, Dr. Dobbins, are you afraid of getting a criminal record? A rational and self-serving guy like you, having a moment of impulse? That's impressive!"

He then took out a white cigarette, held it between his lips, and was about to light it. He looked at the police officer standing nearby and asked, "Mind if I smoke?"

Everyone in the police station knew who he was. The boss had instructed not to give Landon a hard time because he had a team of lawyers behind him, so the officer nodded.

Landon calmly lit the cigarette, took a long drag, and glanced at Leonard. "Dr. Dobbins, you must regret it. You're probably analyzing the pros and cons now! No matter how this ends, I want to tell you that Katelyn is not my and Caitlyn's child; she's Phoebe's."

He hinted at something, but no one else got it.

Leonard sneered, "I'm not interested in your dirty past."

Landon flicked the cigarette and said, "Alright! Since you are determined to ruin my reputation, my lawyer will file a lawsuit. Dr. Dobbins, expect a court summons."

Hearing this, Leonard was stunned.

At that moment, a tall, slender figure stood at the door. It was Lola.

She held a briefcase, watched the scene for a moment, and then said calmly, "Mr. Dobbins, I suggest you refrain from saying anything that could harm you, as everything you said today was recorded by my client, Mr. Carter. With the Carter Group's resources, it's easy to ruin you financially and reputationally!"

Leonard was dumbfounded. He couldn't believe it. He had just argued with Caitlyn and said a few angry words. How could Landon ruin him over a few words?

Perhaps out of male pride, Leonard refused to apologize, and Landon told Lola, "Do what needs to be done!"

Lola nodded. Leonard left with resentment and embarrassment, shooting Caitlyn a cold look. "Are you satisfied? Caitlyn, you say you have nothing to do with him. Do you believe it yourself?" he spat.

Caitlyn didn't bother to explain. After Leonard stormed off, she also wanted to leave, but Landon stopped her.

He held her hand and turned to Lola. "Prepare the materials and file the lawsuit," he instructed.

Lola smiled and said, "I didn't expect, just a few days ago, I was taking pictures of them, and now you have broken them up."

Landon didn't appreciate the comment. "I have a lot of respect for Caitlyn's decisions," he said firmly.

Lola just listened and then extended her hand with a slight smile. "I'm Lola Hawkins, the Carter Group's new chief lawyer. Just call me Lola. I heard from Amara that you two get along well."

Caitlyn, who had spent her youth playing and not working, felt a bit intimidated facing Lola.

Yet Lola didn't seem to mind. They chatted briefly and then parted ways. After Lola left, Caitlyn realized Landon was still holding her hand. "Let go!" she demanded.

Landon touched his face and sneered, "My arm is injured, and my face is a mess. Take me to the hospital."

Caitlyn knew he was just trying to stick around, so she refused. But Landon still dragged her to the car outside, where his driver was already waiting and opened the door for them.

Once inside, the driver handed over a paper bag. "Mr. Carter, your breakfast."

Landon looked at Caitlyn and asked, "Want some?"

Caitlyn turned her head away, not interested in eating.

Landon didn't push her. He took out some documents from the car, reading them while munching on a simple sandwich, occasionally frowning.

Caitlyn, who had spent years with him, rarely saw him working so seriously. She couldn't help but glance over a few times.

The next moment, her hand was grabbed, and she heard his voice. "I have an important meeting later. Let's go to my office first, and I'll have the driver take you back."

From start to finish, Caitlyn had no say in the matter.

Landon didn't wait for her to respond. He turned his face slightly and looked at her deeply. After a long pause, he said very gently, "Stop fighting with me, okay?"

He suddenly pressed a button. A partition rose in the car, separating them from the driver.

Caitlyn stiffened, thinking Landon was about to make a move, but when he gently held her shoulder, he said, "Just now, I told Leonard the truth. Katelyn is not my child."
