Chapter 104: Frederick's Dinner
After leaving the concert hall, Charlotte felt a bit of regret.
Sophie tugged her hand. "Ms. Russell, I'm hungry."
Charlotte knew a good restaurant across the street, so she took Sophie there.
At 14, Sophie rarely ate out and was super excited.
As soon as they entered, Charlotte saw Frederick, who had claimed he was working late.
He was dining with a mature, elegant woman. Charlotte had seen her before, at another restaurant where she had played piano with Frederick.
Charlotte couldn't help but wonder about their relationship.
Frederick had said he was working late, but here he was.
There were a few documents on the table, neatly set aside.
Frederick held a glass of brandy, looking pleased.
Isabella, the woman, had a soft, alluring voice. "Frederick, I look forward to our next collaboration."
Frederick subtly frowned.
Isabella was the widow of a wealthy businessman from Lumina, who had left her a billion-dollar inheritance. Frederick had helped her with a lawsuit, but they weren't close.
Just as Frederick was about to speak, he saw Charlotte.
Next to Charlotte was Sophie, Michael's young daughter.
He wondered if Charlotte and Sophie had attended the concert.
Isabella called him again, "Frederick?"
Frederick nodded. "Just a moment."
He walked over to Charlotte's table and asked quietly, "Why are you eating here?"
Charlotte flipped through the menu. "You didn't want fried chicken today, wanted to try something different?"
Frederick tapped the table and explained, "She's a client."
Charlotte glanced at Isabella, who was squinting at her, clearly seeing her as a rival.
Charlotte's intellect swiftly deciphered Isabella's true motives upon overhearing her mention "Frederick." It was evident to Charlotte that Isabella harbored desires beyond professional boundaries, a fact not lost on Frederick as he allowed the narrative to unfold without intervention.
Charlotte looked away and helped Sophie order.
Frederick blocked her menu, unusually rude in public.
Charlotte softly said, "Don't scare Sophie!"
Frederick looked at Sophie.
Sophie stared at him with wide eyes, and Frederick couldn't say anything. He took a deep look at Charlotte.
She calmly ordered, as if nothing had happened.
Frederick lowered his voice. "We'll talk when we get home." Then he returned to his seat.
Isabella, with emotional eyes, asked, "Frederick, your friend?"
Frederick took a sip of brandy. "My wife and daughter."
Isabella was stunned.
Frederick, not even 30, already had a wife and daughter?
Frederick didn't want to get tangled up with her, hence the lie. If he hadn't run into Charlotte, he might have been more tactful, especially since this commission was $1.5 billion.
Isabella, proud, saw Frederick had no interest in her.
She ended the meal soon and said goodbye.
Frederick escorted her to the car, extending his hand. "Isabella, goodbye."
Isabella, holding the car door, looked wistful. "Mr. Hawkins, you got married so young; what a pity."
Frederick smiled slightly, holding the car door for her.
Isabella had no choice but to get in the car.
Frederick was about to return to the restaurant when a Range Rover stopped in front of him.
The door opened, and Oliver jumped out.
