Chapter 346 You Have Lost the Joy of Being a Woman
So, like, two weeks later, Sawyer's coal mine got busted.
Turns out, those five deaths from four years back blew up in the news, and Sawyer got locked up, looking at a solid 20 years behind bars.
Tina was super bummed. She wanted to see Andrew, but Nathan kept blocking her every time.
Nathan, all serious, was like, "Ms. Anderson, Mr. Devereux had big plans with you, but with Sawyer in hot water, we gotta pull the plug!"
Even Tina, slow as she was, felt something was off.
But with her status, she didn't dare to cross Andrew; she could only beg him to cut her some slack.
Nathan just smiled, all chill. "Ms. Anderson, think about who you might've ticked off."
Tina was floored.
After a long pause, she blurted out, "It was Charlotte!"
Nathan didn't give a straight answer; he just said, "Mr. Devereux's sister passed away early, and he poured all his love into Charlotte. Ms. Anderson, do you get what kind of love that is? You should've done your homework before making a move!"
With that, Nathan bounced.
Tina was totally shell-shocked!
She grabbed a cup of coffee, trying to steady it, but her hands were shaking like crazy. She couldn't believe that after all her hard work, she was still getting wrecked by Charlotte.
Charlotte didn't even have to lift a finger to make her life hell.
No way, this couldn't be happening!
Sawyer couldn't go to prison. Even if she had to grovel to Charlotte, she had to save Sawyer.
When Tina stepped outside, it was raining. The early autumn heat was cooled by the drizzle.
The villa was wrapped in a light rain.
Charlotte was chilling in the backyard gazebo, arranging some flowers she grew herself.
Dana came over and whispered, "Charlotte, a Ms. Anderson wants to see you!"
Charlotte blinked slowly.
She'd seen the news today and figured Tina would come begging, but she didn't think it'd be this quick.
She smiled faintly and said, "Tell her I'm not here!"
Dana nodded and left.
At the villa's entrance, Tina was pacing nervously with an umbrella.
She was desperate to beg Charlotte.
She thought that no matter how cold Charlotte was, they were old classmates. It wouldn't be hard for her to help, as long as she swallowed her pride.
From a distance, Dana approached with an umbrella.
"Ms. Anderson, I'm sorry, but Charlotte is out! Please come back another time!"
Tina knew this was a lie.
Charlotte was definitely home.
Not ready to give up, Tina yelled at the door, "Charlotte! I know you're home. Why won't you see me? I admit I was wrong to leak your privacy, but it didn't really hurt you, did it? Do you have to ruin me to be happy?"
Dana's face turned sour. "Ms. Anderson, please don't make this harder for us!"
Charlotte had a good temper and wouldn't hold grudges against Dana. But if Frederick came home, he'd definitely hold her accountable.
Tina, totally losing it, chucked her umbrella, grabbed the gate, and started shaking it like crazy, yelling, "Charlotte, get out here! You think you're better than me? Remember how you chased after Ethan? You said you'd love him forever! You're just like me, all about power and status! You don't love Frederick. I don't see any love in your eyes! Charlotte, this is your karma."
Tina knew Charlotte wouldn't help, so she decided to just curse her out.
Charlotte heard everything. She calmly told Dana, "Get security to kick her out."
When the security guards came to drag Tina away, she went full drama queen in the rain, spewing all kinds of nasty stuff.
"Keep it up, Charlotte! You've lost the joy of being a woman in the bedroom. Bet doing it with Ethan was way better than doing with Frederick, huh?"
A golden Bentley rolled up slowly.
The window was halfway down.
Frederick heard every word.
His handsome face was stone-cold.
Tina saw him and rushed over, banging on the car door, rainwater splashing into her mouth as she desperately pleaded, "Mr. Hawkins, please help me! Ask Charlotte to spare my husband, please. I'll do anything for you."
She thought her looks might earn her some pity.
She figured the guy in front of her was unhappy in his marriage and she could make him happy.
The golden Bentley stopped.
The wipers swung back and forth.
Frederick sat inside, dressed in a sharp suit, exuding a cold elegance as he lit a cigarette.
Tina knew she was being desperate.
She loved Ethan the most, but she'd been with plenty of guys. Yet, she still craved a man who didn't mess around.
She was jealous of Charlotte.
Frederick blew out a smoke ring, turned to look at Tina, and that one look made her knees weak.
Tina begged, "Help me!"
Frederick's voice was ice-cold. "Your husband's trouble was always my plan! Ms. Anderson, I'm not Ethan; I don't deal with trash!"
Frederick put out his cigarette. He then told the security guards, "Get her out of here; don't block my way."
Tina was momentarily stunned.
Frederick's car started moving, but as it passed her, he suddenly stopped again.
Inside the car, his profile was striking, but his words were cold and heartless. "I care a lot about Charlotte! If you keep upsetting her, I won't hesitate to destroy what you care about the most."
Tina cared most about Ethan.
She loved and hated him!
If Ethan fell from grace, that would be the hardest thing for Tina to bear.
The window rolled up.
Frederick slowly drove into the villa, probably to comfort Charlotte.
Tina couldn't stand it and screamed.
Clearly, she was the unlucky one. Why was everyone comforting Charlotte?
The golden Bentley came to a halt.
Frederick sat inside, quietly puffing on a cigarette.
Tina's earlier words echoed in his mind.
"Keep it up! Charlotte, you've lost the joy of being a woman in the bedroom. Bet doing it with Ethan felt better than doing with Frederick, huh?"
He shouldn't care, but he did.
As a man, especially one as privileged as he was, the idea that he couldn't make his wife happy gnawed at him!
He also knew that Ethan couldn't forget Charlotte.
They had four years of memories.
Whether good or bad, they had shared sweet moments.
After finishing his cigarette, he got out of the car and headed straight to the backyard.
Charlotte was still arranging the flowers.
Seeing Frederick come in, she asked softly, "Did she leave?"
Frederick unbuttoned his suit, took off his jacket, and gently draped it over her thin shoulders. "It's getting cold. Why are you sitting outside?"
Charlotte smiled. "It's quite comfortable out here."
He leaned in to kiss her.
Charlotte let him kiss her, and probably to make him happy, she wrapped her arms around his shoulders. Later, he sat down on the chair, and she perched on his lap.
The jacket on her shoulders slipped to the ground, and his hand slid under her dress.
She gently bit his shoulder and whispered, "Let's go to the bedroom."
Frederick, however, withdrew his hand, lightly patted her waist, and teased her, "What are you thinking, Mrs. Hawkins? Where are Lola and Kingsley?"
Charlotte guessed his thoughts.
She leaned against his shoulder, gently caressing his handsome face. "Mom and Dad took them back. They want to give us time to bond."
Frederick held her waist.
Both of them fell silent.
Their relationship was actually quite good; they got along well, he was considerate, and she was gentle, but there was just a lack of passion.
But there was nothing wrong with that!
Half a month later, the evidence against Sawyer was confirmed, and he was basically looking at 20 years in prison.
The family was torn apart.
As the current wife, Tina received about $500 million in cash, which was far from her luxurious lifestyle.
Charlotte didn't kick her while she was down.
But she didn't expect to see Tina again at the Hughes family gathering.
Charlotte was about to make a movie, and a group of people surrounded her, all wanting to collaborate with Grace.
Lily was usually strictly managed by Bradley.
Tonight, she was completely relaxed. Looking at these men, she touched her face, regretting not taking better care of it!
Charlotte softly told her to restrain herself.
If something really happened, Bradley would kill her.
Lily was about to clarify when she caught sight of a familiar face. She whispered to Charlotte, "Tina is here. She really has some skills. Her husband is still inside, and she's already found a big shot in the entertainment industry."
Charlotte casually glanced up and saw Tina in a silver dress, arm in arm with a chubby guy.
She had lost a lot of weight, adding a touch of fragility.
She was quite the eye-catcher for men.
At this moment, her gaze was locked on Charlotte, full of hatred!
Charlotte wasn't fazed.
She whispered to Lily, "The producer she's hanging with has been bombing for years, losing money on every film! He's just after Tina's cash!"
Lily looked impressed.
Charlotte smiled faintly. "Grace spilled the tea over coffee a few days ago."
As they chatted, Tina sat down far away.
Charlotte ignored her and kept mingling. At 10 o'clock, she told Lily, "You stay and have fun. I'm heading back!"
Lily was surprised. "Frederick is that strict?"
Charlotte smiled lightly.
It wasn't that Frederick demanded she come home early, but ever since the school anniversary, she could sense his insecurity.
Their relationship had always been kinda bland. After watching that video of Ethan, he had been super possessive. Charlotte still felt that in a marriage, one person had to be emotionally stable.
So, even if he was possessive, she was very tolerant.
She never turned him down when he wanted her.
Charlotte said her goodbyes and left.
The Hughes family mansion had a long hallway, and Dana handed her a coat.
From behind, Tina's voice called out. "Charlotte!"
Charlotte turned around and saw Tina. She frowned slightly. "Ms. Anderson, what do you want?"
Tina held a slim lady's cigarette. She slowly lit it, looked Charlotte up and down for a long time, and then said softly, "Charlotte, you won! Sawyer is in prison, and from now on, I can only rely on myself."
Charlotte smiled faintly.
Tina took a deep drag on her cigarette. "I know you're happy! You're doing this for Lily, right? She was hurt so badly back then, and you must have been heartbroken too! Now you've got what you wanted."
She suddenly squinted and smiled. "What puzzles me is, you clearly don't love Frederick anymore, so why stay with him? You don't lack money, do you? The Devereux family can take good care of you! With Andrew, what are you afraid of?"
Charlotte calmly replied, "Tina, do you think everyone lives in their own little world like you? Frederick is not only my husband, but he's also the father of our two kids."
Tina laughed, tears streaming down her face.
The father of two kids.
Of course!
That was Charlotte's true feelings. She wasn't happy.
She stayed with Frederick just for the kids; she wasn't any better off than herself.
Charlotte didn't want to deal with her and turned to leave.
As she turned, she saw Frederick standing at the door.
He looked at her quietly.
His eyes were deep, like a thick fog on a cloudy day.
