Chapter 102 The Truth Revealed

Ophelia felt both angry and disappointed. How could it be possible that Seraphina only found out afterward? She had mentioned losing her resume that very day. If Finnegan had found Seraphina through her resume, then he must have talked about the night they met. Even if Seraphina was clueless, she should have known that it was her Finnegan was looking for.

Seraphina still attempted to defend herself, "No, I didn’t lie, I was shocked and didn’t think it through."

"Seraphina," Ophelia said coldly, "I've known you for years. Do I not know you at all? It’s because that man is Finnegan. You wanted to let the mistake stand, didn't you?"

Ophelia felt an ache in her heart, as if her veins were clogged with cotton, suffocating her. It wasn’t just Seraphina’s deceit that hurt, but also her obstinate denial and the way she tried to turn the tables.

She was consumed with guilt lately, having believed that she was the one who destroyed Seraphina's relationship and became the other woman.

She avoided Finnegan, restraining herself.

However, the truth was, Seraphina had continued to deceive her even after getting to know Finnegan.

Powerless to counter, Seraphina said, "Say whatever you want. It doesn't matter because you won't believe anything I say anyway. The situation is what it is. I'll just give Finnegan back to you."

Ophelia was furious at this attitude. "Seraphina," she started, her voice thick with emotion.

Magnus spoke with a chilly tone, "Seraphina, you need to speak properly. You are in the wrong here."

Seeing that Magnus was defending Ophelia again, Seraphina didn't appreciate it and adopted a defeatist attitude. "What do you want me to say? Even if I speak, she won't believe me. They made their own mistake. What does it have to do with me? I didn't go after them. Ophelia slept with Finnegan, why doesn't she just admit it? She's just playing hard to get, thinking she can actually marry into the Abbott Family. People like us from the lower classes shouldn't have delusions about marrying into wealth..."

"Seraphina," Ophelia said sharply, "you should be thankful for over twenty years of friendship, otherwise, I'd really want to slap you right now."

Ophelia was enduring a lot. Over twenty years of friendship felt wasted.

Seeing the shocking look on Ophelia's face, Seraphina wisely kept quiet.

Magnus's expression was also stern. "Seraphina, how can you say such things?"

Ophelia took a deep breath and asked, "Why did Finnegan ask you to leave Orchid Garden? Seraphina, if you don't tell the truth, I really might slap you."

Ophelia raised her hand in a feigned gesture.

She had treated Seraphina like a sister, and the betrayal and self-righteousness left her feeling a mix of disappointment and frustration akin to hating to see potential wasted.

Seraphina muttered under her breath, "If Finnegan figured out it wasn't me that night, Ophelia, did you let something slip? How else could Finnegan have gotten suspicious?"

A cold laugh escaped Ophelia.

'Blamed me even when the secret is out? Impossible.'

"I must have been blind, Seraphina. I can't believe I ever trusted you. If I believe another word from you, I might as well be a dog," she spat out before storming off.

Ophelia was fuming, furious at Seraphina's lack of remorse and her audacity. Magnus pointed at Seraphina and said, "You're hopeless." With those parting words, he quickly left to catch up with Ophelia.

In a fit of anger, Seraphina hurled a cushion from the sofa across the room. She felt no regret about offending Ophelia.

At the base of the apartment complex, Magnus caught up with Ophelia. "Don't take it so hard, Ophelia. Seraphina is just lashing out because she's had some bad investments recently," he tried to reason.

"I just need to cool off," Ophelia said, her mind a cluttered mess. Knowing that Finnegan had brought Seraphina to Orchid Garden and then dismissed her after finding out she wasn't the one from that night had thrown her into turmoil.

Finnegan had been looking for her lately and saying things that didn't make sense. Did he know that she was the woman from that night? "Magnus, did you know all along?" Ophelia inquired. "With the way Seraphina is, she'd never admit it. How could she just confess?"

"I just found out myself," Magnus replied. "I came to talk to Seraphina, and just happened to arrive when Finnegan was also here to see her. I overheard their conversation. It was Finnegan who told Seraphina to clear things up with you."

Upon hearing the words, Ophelia felt as though a firecracker had exploded in her head. "He... he knows?" Ophelia's mind raced back to the declarations Finnegan had made the night before, and to her own proclamation of undying love to her child's father. She wished she could just crawl into a hole and disappear.

What was Finnegan thinking when he heard her confession?
