Chapter 164: The Tears of the Crocodile
Dovie's remark left Celia speechless.
Celia would never admit having a daughter-in-law like Ophelia.
Celia coldly sneered, "Abbott's Family would never marry a daughter-in-law like this. I'm just speaking objectively, not targeting anyone in particular."
Ophelia had experienced Celia's insults and dislike before, so she was prepared for Celia's cold sarcasm. She met Celia's gaze and spoke confidently, "Madam, whether you like it or not is not important. As long as my husband and the law recognize our marriage, that is enough."
Implicitly, Ophelia was suggesting that Celia couldn't control Finnegan. She and Finnegan had obtained a marriage certificate, which made their marriage legal and unchangeable.
This remark made Celia's face turn pale with anger. Seeing that the situation was not favorable, Dovie said, "Ophelia, go prepare the post-production materials for the Horizon Project and send them to my email this afternoon."
"Yes, CEO," Ophelia understood that Dovie intentionally distracted her.
Ophelia also didn't want to endure Celia's ridicule. If she accidentally angered Celia, she wouldn't be able to explain herself to Finnegan.
After Ophelia left, Dovie poured a cup of coffee for Celia and said, "Have a cup of coffee, calm down. Why are you so angry today? Do you know Ophelia?"
"I don't know her," Celia denied bluntly.
Dovie observed her expression and said, "But based on what you just said, it seems like you do know her, and you have a strong opinion of her."
"I just don't like this type of person, relying on a little bit of beauty and wanting to enter a prominent family. They lack self-awareness," Celia continued to belittle, saying, "How long can beauty last? Are they treating their youth as their main course? I've seen too many women like her. Here's something you won't like to hear. My son is exceptional, so it's natural for undeserving women to throw themselves at him. I've sent away countless of them. However, my son is virtuous and doesn't pay attention to those women."
Dovie disagreed with her and said, "Those women exist, but you can't lump everyone together. Ophelia has been working in my company for half a year. She's a good girl, diligent, capable, and kind-hearted. Anyone who marries her will be truly blessed. If I had a son, I would have groomed her to be his wife."
Celia didn't like hearing this and said, "That's all an act. I can see through that girl's intentions. Anyway, my Abbott's Family will not allow someone like her to enter."
Dovie chuckled, "Just calm down. Ophelia is already married and has her own in-laws. She won't be able to enter your Abbott's Family."
Upon hearing this, Celia felt a knot in her heart. The speaker had no ill intentions, but the listener perceived otherwise.
Ophelia was indeed married, but her husband was Finnegan, part of the Abbott's Family. She had already entered the Abbott's Family.
Fortunately, Ophelia was tactful and didn't reveal the identity of her in-laws. Otherwise, Celia would not spare Ophelia and would definitely embarrass her.
...
Ophelia, who had just left the CEO's office, went to the company corridor to catch her breath.
Even though she was mentally prepared for Celia's words, she couldn't remain completely unaffected.
She didn't tell Finnegan about this. It was an issue between her and Celia, and involving Finnegan would only make Celia dislike her more.
She couldn't hide behind Finnegan forever in the conflicts between her and her mother-in-law.
Just then, Ophelia heard a commotion coming from the office area. She looked over and saw that Sybil had returned.
No wonder it caused such a sensation.
Sybil came to collect her things, holding a small cardboard box with some items she had left behind from her previous job, including her parents' photos.
This was the reason worth Sybil coming back to retrieve these items.
The employees didn't dare to approach her and automatically made way for Sybil.
Originally heading towards the elevator with the small box in her arms, she saw Ophelia and changed direction towards her, saying, "Ophelia, thank you."
With that, Sybil bowed deeply to Ophelia.
She could still stand here, thanks to Ophelia.
Ophelia asked, "What are you doing here?"
She thought Sybil would be at the police station.
Sybil said, "Dovie dropped the charges, she got me released on bail."
As long as Dovie convinced Niamh not to sue Sybil, and used her connections to downplay the situation, Sybil would be safe.
Ophelia asked with concern, "What are your plans from now on?"
Sybil looked down at the photo of her parents in the box, sadness evident in her eyes. "Survive and witness Niamh's retribution."
"Sybil, you..." Ophelia thought Sybil would let go of her hatred.
Sybil sneered, "Their small favors can't outweigh the deep-seated hatred. Their repentance is just crocodile tears. Ophelia, be careful of Niamh, she is capable of anything."
