Chapter 423 Dovie's Cause of Death in Doubt

Dr. Golden said, "After Ophelia left, the patient's sister, Natalie, came to visit. It was Natalie who found the patient unresponsive. By the time we arrived, the patient had no vital signs."
"How is that possible? When I left, my mother had regained consciousness and was in good spirits. We even talked for a while." Ophelia couldn't accept the reality and asked again, "Dr. Golden, did you attempt to resuscitate my mother when you arrived at the room?"
Dr. Golden explained again, "When we arrived, we checked the patient's vital signs, and she had already stopped breathing. The patient's condition was very poor to begin with. Her waking up was already a miracle. What you saw as her being well might have been a temporary recovery, which is not uncommon."
Ophelia shook her head, feeling something was off. Dovie's fingers were curled, but her index finger was straight as if pointing at something.
There were no cameras in the ICU, so Ophelia had no way of knowing what Dovie went through before she passed away.
Ophelia clenched her fists and made a decision. "Dr. Golden, I demand an autopsy. I need to know why my mother suddenly got so much worse and died so abruptly. I want an accurate cause of death."
"I disagree."
Natalie and Niamh entered together from outside. Hearing Ophelia's demand for an autopsy, Natalie immediately objected. "Ophelia, how can you be so cruel? Dovie has passed away, and you still want to defile her body. You have no morals, wanting your mother to be restless even after death. You're going to be damned for this."
For many people, respecting the dead is paramount, and the idea of an autopsy is unacceptable.
Ophelia firmly said, "Since you admit she is my mother, as her only daughter, I demand to know her cause of death and request an autopsy. No one has the right to stop me. If I say there will be an autopsy, then there will be one."
Requesting an autopsy pained Ophelia, but she needed to know the truth. She couldn't let her mother die without a clear reason.
Natalie gritted her teeth. She had just admitted Ophelia's identity in a moment of desperation.
"Even if you are Dovie's daughter, you can't do this." Natalie stood firm, blocking the body and furiously condemning Ophelia, "What are you trying to do? Take over the company and now disturb your mother's peace after death, defiling her body. Aren't you afraid of what people will say about you? I'm afraid I have to disagree. Dovie should be allowed to rest in peace."
Dr. Golden saw the two arguing and didn't know how to intervene.
Celia and Jude entered upon hearing the commotion. They also didn't quite agree with the idea of an autopsy.
When someone dies, it's natural to leave the body intact.
Jude tried to persuade, "Ophelia, your mother has passed away. Let her go peacefully."
"Did you hear that? It's not just me who disagrees." Natalie said, "Ophelia, demanding an autopsy is simply unreasonable."
Ophelia stared sharply at Natalie and questioned, "You were with my mother when she died. I want to know what happened. Why was she already gone when the doctors arrived?"
"Ophelia, what do you mean?" Natalie had prepared herself mentally and was ready with a lie. "When I came in, I saw Dovie awake. We had just started talking when she suddenly couldn't breathe. Seeing something was wrong, I immediately called for the doctors. Dovie's condition deteriorated too quickly, and the doctors couldn't save her. What, do you want to blame me? You're being too cruel."
Dr. Golden said, "Ophelia, as I mentioned earlier when we arrived, the patient had indeed stopped breathing. Her condition was very critical, and she was always at risk."
Ophelia insisted, "As a family member, I demand the hospital conduct an autopsy and retrieve the hallway surveillance footage. The hospital can refuse, but I will involve the police. Anyone who obstructs this will be treated as a suspect."
Seeing Ophelia was serious, Natalie felt panicked.
If Dovie's actual cause of death were discovered, she would certainly be implicated.
After boss's baby, she Escape
