Chapter 69 Thievery

Lina, sharp-eyed as she was, caught a glimpse of Seraphina's slick maneuver in the mirror and promptly approached her.

"Miss Kingsley, Mr. Abbott made it clear that you can only take what you brought with you. Everything else stays," she said.

"Lina, I..." Seraphina's face flushed, her discomfort obvious as she sputtered out an awkward defense. "This is mine..."

"Miss Kingsley, please put it back. If I'm not mistaken, you purchased that necklace just last week with Mr. Abbott's credit card—you spent a cool half a million for that piece," Lina said firmly, locking her gaze on Seraphina. "Mr. Abbott asked you not to make things difficult for me."

Lina was internally shocked. Seraphina's actions were no different from a thief's.

'How can such a woman ever be worthy of Mr. Abbott?
No wonder Mr. Abbott has decided to send Seraphina away.
I didn’t realize before that Seraphina is this kind of person,' Lina thought.

Burning with humiliation, Seraphina begrudgingly returned the necklace to its place. "Look down on me all you want, Lina. You're just an employee here. You’re treating me this way now just because I'm temporarily out of favor—kicking me when I’m down. Mark my words, I will be back one day, and you'll be the first one I'll send packing."

Seraphina had previously played the part of a lady quite convincingly, always polite and gracious. Aside from the occasional splurge on shopping and demanding nothing but the best - dining exquisitely, dressing in top brands - everything else seemed fine.

However, Seraphina's true colors had emerged, taking Lina completely by surprise.

Lina rolled the suitcase she had packed towards Seraphina. "Miss Kingsley, take your things and leave. If you think you can come back and have this conversation, it's not too late."

Seraphina was fuming, her fingers clenched tightly on the handle of the suitcase as she eyed the luxury items around the room, her heart bleeding at the sight.

She had no clue what she had done to provoke Finnegan. He had kicked her out without any warning signs.

Seraphina wondered if it had something to do with her insisting that Ophelia move out. 'Could Ophelia have spoken against me behind my back?' Seraphina thought.

Fueled by this thought, Seraphina's rage intensified. As she dragged her suitcase away from Orchid Garden, she dialed Ophelia's number, only to find out she had been blocked.

This only solidified her belief that it was Ophelia's doing. Enraged, she stormed off to confront Ophelia.

In the three-story villa, Finnegan stood before a floor-to-ceiling window. He watched Seraphina leave, and saw her frantic and furious phone call at the doorstep.

"Mr. Abbott," Lina entered, "Miss Kingsley has left."

"Hmm," replied Finnegan, his voice cool and steady, betraying no sign of emotion.

Hesitating slightly, Lina divulged, "Miss Kingsley tried to sneak off with the pearl necklace, but I caught her and made her return it."

"Dispose of everything she bought," Finnegan commanded with indifference. "Take her room apart, renovate it completely, and leave no trace of her behind."

"At once, Mr. Abbott," Lina affirmed and promptly left.

...

Magnus didn't get home until nine o'clock that night. He was surprised to find the lights on.

Wondering if he had forgotten to turn them off before leaving, he was taken aback to see Ophelia emerging from the guest room.

"Ophelia, when did you get here?" Magnus was both shocked and elated. "How are you feeling? I rushed back as soon as I wrapped up my case. What happened? You were perfectly fine. There was a miscarriage? I sent Seraphina to look after you. Didn't she come?"

"Was it you who sent her?" Just the mention of Seraphina made Ophelia's face turn sour. "I've blocked her. Don't bring her up again, okay? And no, I was never pregnant, nor did I have a miscarriage. It was a mix-up at the hospital. I quit my job, and I'm moving in here for a few days until I find a new place."

Magnus needed a moment to process the flood of information from Ophelia. 'I was only gone for two days. How could so much have happened?'

Glancing at Ophelia's stomach as he mentally sorted through the details, Magnus asked, "You were never pregnant? The hospital made a mistake?"

Settling onto the couch, Ophelia grabbed a throw pillow and placed it on her lap. "Yeah, they got it wrong."

Magnus sat opposite her and inquired, "And you resigned? Why?"

"Bumped heads with the boss. The workplace became unbearable, so I left," Ophelia confessed. "Magnus, anything else on your mind? Ask away."

She was bracing herself for the interrogation she knew was coming.

"Why the fallout with Seraphina this time?" Magnus asked.

"Do you know who Seraphina is dating?" Ophelia countered, looking straight at him.

"Who? Did she tell you?"

"The CEO of Abbott's Corporation, Finnegan Abbott."
After boss's baby, she Escape
